Just curious if anybody has been able to execute a solo exp chain. I tried to do it, but I can't defeat an enemy of my level or higher now within the exp chain time limit with the adjustment to mob stats.

Chained 3 mobs one level above me and then I have to rest.
Not sure if it's faster to try and chain mobs one level above you and then rest, or just nuked the hell out of mobs 1 - 3 levels under you and only rest every 20 - 25mob.
I managed to do it on a leve, but not while solo grinding.
Yep, I've managed to do it a couple times on leves, when the mobs are grouped. But I haven't even tried it yet outside of leves.
I'm a PUG 34 atm and can easily chain 3 mobs before needing to rest. This gets me over 1500xp which is pretty decent. Its way more than I used to get solo.
I'm killing level 35-38 Pterocs in Coerthas.
i'm pug 28. solo mobs my level and use a well timed second wind at the end of a battle and i need to rest even less now
Yeah, screenshot in my sig. Best to do it on mobs your level, and if you have time, pull a ob with low health toward the next one you plan to kill.
Some enemies it seems like it doesn't trigger for me on. Coblyns for instance, I lu... oh one of them was a level lower than me, maybe that's what it was.
Started a chain on a Bomb. But after Chain #1, the next enemy linked with two other Bombs and it was time to flee. The enemy missing a lot may have played a role in my survival in combination with Foresight for the parry + Second Wind for the heal as a R30 Gladiator (at the time).
Hey gang, we've been reading feedback in regards to exp chains while soloing, and the difficulty to keep them going. Currently we're looking into two aspects of adjustments:While both of these aren't guaranteed, we'll continuing to take your feedback into account and we'll start with looking into extending the chain bonus time limits.
- Looking into extending the amount of time for a chain bonus when solo
- Lowering the level at which enemies qualify for chains
My only issue is the time for next chain at chain #5 is ridiculously low. The current clunkiness of input in the game makes it so you're lucky if you can even perform a single action before the timer runs out.
Also, it's annoying when you deal the killing blow to a monster before the timer runs out but it doesn't "finish dying" before the chain timer ends and you don't get the chain, even though you killed it in time.
I think lowering the level required for chains to allow you to kill things 1-2 levels below you would be great, since you'll get a bit less XP than if you fought higher leveled stuff but you'll have more consistency and less stress if you're having trouble. It also helps by allowing more areas for you to actually camp.
As a newer player I've yet to get a chain 5 solo- I can get a chain 4 pretty reliably regardless of the job as long as the mob is the same level as me, but 15 seconds is a bit of a stretch imo~. For party play I definitely see that being reasonable.
Any adjustments'd definitely be nice.
I don't think solo players should be expecting to get, let alone maintain, 5+ chains. Maybe chains 1 through 3... My thaum can get up to chain #5 on leves just from aoe nuking every leve target on leves with many targets, but other than that I don't expect to chain mobs solo. If I get a chain 1 or 2 I am pretty happy.
Prolonged/repetitive chain 5s should take the effort of a light party at the least. It's supposed to be a reward, after all.
I've solo chained with a 23-25 cnj, 25 pug, 34 mrd, and 47-50gla. You just have to be very efficient with your abilities and have a good action bar setup for solo. Anything more than 3 is very difficult solo because of the time contraints. Also +3 levels above current level seems to be about the threshold for when fights become difficult/inefficient particularly because monsters start to evade your attacks more and crit you more often.
Good, I think 2-3 levels lower is fair for solo chains. Maybe 1 level lower for non solo also.
Thanks Bay, this is good news for those of us who like to Solo. :)
Is it difficult to chain mobs solo? I find getting Chain #3 pretty easy, the only thing that usually stops that going higher is the run to the next group of mobs.
I don't really want a faster manner of gaining exp for now..
I was solo lvling my MRD from lv19 yesterday, now it's lv22
I'm leveling it keeping consistent chain 4, against the crabs in Bloodshore.
And I was even fighting multiple of them at lv21 (Their lv range is 20-22), keeping the chain 4 going in the meanwhile.
Keeping a chain 4 while solo probably means a extended time or level range for chaining is not really needed..
Or else we'll really see all gears of lower levels being useless, as you can level up even easier after it's being adjusted that way.
P.S. I switched 2 weapons for my MRD for a better one, none of them reached 40% spiritbond yet..
I think for main hand weapon,
(As it wont be shared by other classes to make the spiritbond quicker to fill up at that level)
the exp needed for a 100% spiritbond should be at least accomplished within exp required for the class to gain 2.5 level
This way the player is given an opportunity to remake & meld the weapon, and perhaps it could be an alternative choice to make the chain a bit easier for players as well.
Hmm, maybe if they did it so there was a overall time on chain kills. Then depending on the time it takes to kill another of that same monster is what chain you get so like.
So a very quick example would be something like,
5minutes would be the max time allowed to score a kill, if a kill is not gained during that time no chain is gained and any current chain you may have is lost. EXAMPLE TIME!
I start a fight with a monster, the timer starts, i finish killing the monster and took me 4.59 minutes, i gain chain 1, as that's the longest time allowed before the time runs out and to allow a kill to gain a chain im rewarded with the worst chain (1). The timer resets after that kill back to 5 minutes.
If i was to kill a monster within 4 minutes, reward me with chain 2, if i cannot get any faster time than this, i stay at chain 2 but always recieve the bonus for each kill, unless i do not kill something within the 5minutes allowed.
If i kill a monster within 3 minutes, reward me with chain 3, if i cannot get any faster time than this, i stay at chain 3 but always recieve the bonus for each kill, unless i do not kill something within the 5minutes allowed.
This means, the very first kill is the one that rewards you the chain, and each kill after that is just to keep it going and allow for rest time. even if i was to spend 2-3minutes resting and then kill something, as long as i already have a chain going, kill something and reset the time back to its maximum, then rest.
After each kill, the timer resets back to 5minutes (example time!)
This would mean a full/light party would finish kills fast, getting chains 4-5 easly, and for solo players it would allow time for them to rest, but not losing the chain during that rest time.
I hope people understand what i'm tring to explain mehe :D
I can chain to 4 almost every single time and that is fine. Higher chains should not be easy to achieve when you solo. Come on, if you chain mobs of your level you get around 1400-1500 experience points in about 3-4 minutes, which is really fine for soloing.
Definitely should lower the level of chains. Should be able to chain on mobs slightly lower than you by a few levels but have a reduced chain modifier or something of the sorts.
I was able to chain 5 and 6 with minimal downtime on my low level Archer and Conjurer, but at the moment I am leveling Gladiator and holy moly, this class is WEAK! I'm lucky to get chain 3... :(
Personally I never thought of low level/solo chains as an issue, but I also understand that not everyone is at the same skill/financial(in-game) level.
You have to kill mobs at your level or higher to chain.
I was able to get a +5 chain on my LNC with the high-20s Antelope Does east of Camp Tranquil when I was 29. I may have just gotten lucky though. I usually gave up the chain when I hit +3 since I usually needed more than 20 seconds to down one of them, that and Doomspike is ridiculously over-powered when coupled with Ferocity. In hindsight, I probably should've recorded that run with Fraps...
Be great if as a solo player you can start chaining mobs couple of levels below you.
Granted you aren't going to be chaining very high, (was chaining up to 5 on my ARC doing company leves with mobs one level higher than me) it shouldn't be too difficult to at least chain 1 or 2 times so long as you're not fighting mobs more than a couple levels higher than you. Getting up to 4-5 chains is really good solo, and very plausible so long as you're not shooting too far ahead of your level with mobs, not sure if this really needs a lot of adjusting.
Solo chaining is fine how it is. I'm able to easily get chain 3 on a regular basis. At the VERY most male mobs one level below you qualify, nothing lower.
for me, I think this is a bug, but sometimes it wont chain on mobs that are a few lvls higher then me, no timer comes up, nothing, its like i didn't kill the mob at all. Another one would be I'm chaining and I kill a mob, but it doesn't give me the chain. And the timer is still counting down. (not getting that chain now -.-; )
I have the same problem as RisaCooper, sometimes mobs do not count into my exp chain.
Like..when I'm fighting mobs which are rank 29 on my PUG rank 27, those monsters should trigger the chain.
Sometimes I have to kill up to 3 of them until the chain starts!
Or even if it started with the first mob down, if I go to the next one and defeat it during the time left on the timer, it's not recognized by the game and the timer continues to count down..
This is especially maddening when I'm able to string together a 3-chain and manage to kill a 4th mob in time, but the game ignores it and goes like "Oooh, time is up, you didn't manage to kill 4 monsters in a row." although I actually did.
Well, but usually 3 is the possible maximum for me anyway:)
After that I have to rest. I'd love it if there were adjustments to how hard it is to get an exp chain as a solo player.
I have also had the glitch where certain kills don't count in the chain count, that needs to be fixed and hope the devs know about this issue.
