Cross-Class Aesthetics!

This has nothing to do with skills and abilities. It changes nothing with your character, it just changed the way their attacks look with particle effects and trails.

I propose an idea if you master a class (Get it to level 60) you should be able to have unique skills that you can cross-class to give them different aesthetics.

For example:

Master Dark Knight (Level 60 and complete all quests.) gives you an item which you can slot on your character for every class:

Slotted to a Dragoon:
Dark Lance attacks and Darkness animations from lance.

Slotted to a Paladin
Dark Crusader, Flash and most aesthetics and particle affects and trails are turned to be more like Dark Knights.

Slotted to a Scholar
Turns Faerie into a Dark Faerie, two different types. Healing has a dark effect to it.

Slotted to a Bard
Dark Arrows!

It could be limited to mix certain classes with each other of course but it could be cool!


I would love for example, to slot a Warrior Soul on my character to give my Dark Knight more warrior-like effects. That is if I mastered both Warrior and Dark Knight.

I would also love to play Paladin with Warrior or Dark Knight effects on them, the Paladin effects hurt my eyes which is why I avoid the class. That is however my reward for being a level 60 Warrior and DRK and Paladin.

if it was just for glamour purposes, it would be pretty sweet.

Would be cool, I suppose doing such for a mage would give normal skills a fire or ice effect? Ast would give like starry effects?

If I could use BLM to give DRK tons of firesword swings, I'd be in love.

It's an interesting idea, but I don't think it would make any sense for the world. Being a SCH and using your darkness learned from being a DRK to somehow change your fairies and their moves without your soulstone, while doing your job? Pretty sure your energy would be better spent on the task at hand than making yourself look different.

A good example of why it would never happen: I can't even make my MNK's fists have stone or fire when I'm using Fists of Earth or Fists of Fire.

I think they mean like a glamour but for effects as opposed to making gear look different. Nothing what so ever to do with taking away from your ability to perform your job's abilities in combat.
As for making sense... I could go down a list of a hundred things that don't make sense in Eorzea. But it's a fantasy game.


Anyway...

It's a cool idea. It would be really cool as a glamour for effects. I just don't see it happening on reason of resources. If particle effects were something that could just be "swapped out" in this game sure. But I don't think they are and would likely require the reworking of pretty much every skill in the game for each job, for as many times as there are jobs at any given point. Not to mention things like re-texturing for pets (i.e. dark faeries).

We've seen people complaining about the concept of giving Summoners an egi-glamour system and that's just one class making new models and textures for a handful of new pets. Imagine every class, every spell and ability, retextured or recolored... It's just not feasible.

Very nice idea op.

Its things like this that make a game stand out from the rest, not on its own, but bits and pieces like this and other suggestions that so many have given added up makes a game appear finished , modern and stand out.

So imo it is worth the time, the effort to add in.

(unless they are happy being average) I think they are far more capable and talented then that though, if given the freedom to be :o

Only question really is what could other classes bring? I mean ninja would I suppose have smokey or other type but Monk, Dragoon, Machinist I guess could do an electrical type? I just have a hard time thinking of what the other classes could bring if were to do em all. Unless monk were to say change up your stances all together but then maybe that would be too much. I dunno, just tossing ideas.

Glamour visual effects would awesome and not just our clothes, but having our classes affected by them and pets(without touching the skills just the looks and may be a name change if u have the glamour)

Yes I am in. I would like to see that. I like the lil circles around the monk. I can't remember the skill that gives that.

Wouldn't this idea require a new slot added to character equip screen?

Dragoon could just have the aura from BotD trail after attacks or skills or something

Probably, but we have an extra slot. Right under our boots.

Never mind the Aesthetics, how about a level 60 trait that once you level more than one job past level 60 opens up the cross class abilities in each lvl 60+ job to be available for use by the other lvl 60 jobs, without restriction.

Call it Peerless Skill or something. I mean if you have a character that has reached the pinnacle of experience in multiple Jobs, it seems only natural that you would be able to demonstrate your mastery of the jobs by cross skilling them more flexibly. Of course, this trait would only cover the cross class skills available at lvl 60, and not beyond - just in case the future holds more....

I was speaking in another thread about HOW POINTLESS it is for those who like to 60 all to do it, no reward at all for it, nothing you can 'cross' from jobs.... But, this idea makes it a BIT more appealing, never better said as it is for glamours purpose...

I agree! It feels to me like it fits, and would make this game stand out in a unique way ^_^

It would require a lot of time from whatever part of the team handles the visual effects, but the idea still appeals to me.

That might be taking it a bit far, though... You'd need new animations for every new type of pet. Just adding an additional effect or colour-change to existing skills depending on the combination of jobs is one thing, but combining it with pet glamour would require a whole different level of work, time, and financing for the dev team.

It's not just the appearances, but making specific animations for them that match the pet attacks/heals and movements. The IS a pet glamour system on the way, but it's slow going, much because of those details.

I really like your idea, just not coupled with pet glamours.

A lot of them are already in the game. Just use dragons we have already, shrink em down. Give em a retexture.

Well the reason we don't have extra cross skills anymore is probably they don't want to force people to level a class they don't enjoy or getting chewed out for not having "super monster required skill from another class"
When i just dinged my whm 50 and was slowly working on thm and as such had no swiftcast, i never heard the end of it.

I agree with fun and harmless glamours tough.

I wish I had thought of this...this idea is so frigging AWESOME!!! The specific ideas you have in there are really nice...I would love to have a "dark" faerie instead of Selene or Eos sometimes, that would be a nice change. The Paladin or Dark Knight swinging a fire or ice sword or even lighting would be great too. SE please make this happen...unless Red Mage is going to do the weapon thing for us in the coming ...............expansion(s). Hmmmmmmmmmm
