Happy Two-Year Anniversary, Beta Phase 4 Players!

It was on this day two years ago that beta phase four started. For those who don't get the significance, beta phase 4 was in many ways what early access was to Heavensward. Characters made during phase four were kept for the official launch of the game, so today marks the anniversary of many, many of the original 2.0 character creations!

Maybe it doesn't mean much to you guys as it did me, but it felt like something worth celebrating. So here's to my fellow phase four testers. Here's to the next year and the hope that the future is bright!

Wow so long ago. /feels Thanks for this op. The first attempt to recreate 1.0 char but guessing at the feature options chosen, getting a horrible attempt. Feeling sad then making a male miqote. Exploring the new shroud design. Good times. How much of 1.0 is there hidden around and seeming shy. 1.0 I love you. 2.0 I love you too.

It was also when the PS3 version was finally a reality. I was all over that like white on rice, never looked back either in spite of the PC version that had so plagued me till then. Still looking at my PS3 wondering if I should go back despite transferring to the PS4. The PS4 version feels too much like the PC version for my tastes.

i remember all those people ... getting the call out to "go to central shroud and do something" .... and then we all stood there at camp spamming emotes because we couldnt come up with something usefull.

I remember calling in to work sick and playing all day. That's when my love affair with this game started lol

I joined in Phase 3 - the closed PS3/PC beta test, was fun :)
Although yeah P4 was a big improvement on P3 testing, they added a lot more art assets and textures to PS3 build with it that made the world look and feel more imersive and a lot less basic looking.

I was also a Phase 3 player and it was what convinced me to stop playing DCUO and switch to FFXIV. I saw great things and I am glad this game is getting better and better!

I joined in Phase 3 as well, never having tried an MMO before. I only wanted to test the game out, free of charge, because it was Final Fantasy. There were no plans to actually stick with the game - kinda shocked its been 2 years and I'm still here.

Exactly same with me, only online games I'd played before was C&C lol.
I'd heard about the ambomination that was 1.0 and to be honest was curious to see if the relaunch would work and to see how a massively story driven game like FF could work as a multi-player affair.

Needless to say they sold me on ARR I pre-order the Collectors Edition after like 2 days of P3 testing, and then also orderd the CE of Heavensward when that launched - two years, thousands of hours of playtime and hundreds of Pounds (£) later and I'm still happily playing :)

The Beta was a simpler time, when the greatest threat to Eorzea was an exceptional crustacean.

Ah, where we all learned to attack the weak point for massive damage.

Wow really? The 2 year mark? I can still remember when I joined Beta during Phase 3. Started on some random server till I found friends, then finished out my P3 on Hyperion. Then quickly secured my spot on Hyperion into P4 since character data was finally being saved ^.^ even if I only got to play 2 1/2 days of P4 @.@ hahaha.

Ah Phase 4 Beta before all the toxicity when the biggest complaint was... I keep getting 90k and these other errors. Before Coils, EX Primals and many other things. Good times! Been playing my Miqo'te with a few changes since then when I created it back in Phase 4.

As long as we're discussing memories I started back in Beta Phase 3 as well. By the time Phase 4 started several people I knew had got on as well, and we created a linkshell as a makeshift FC until we could make a real one. Most everyone barring myself has since left the game and I myself left the very FC I founded, but it remains on the server and seems to be doing well. Kinda nice seeing something me and my buddies made having a lasting impact on the server, even if we don't run it anymore.

I was an alpha tester for 2.0, but due to the way alpha and beta testing worked, our characters were created and destroyed multiple times during the course of all that testing. Finally, I was able to make a character that was permanent - my Ultros Roe lady, Ornlona Wistuwyn, has her birthday today.

AA yes remembered Alpha 1-4 where all there was to do was one dungeon and guildleaves in the Grindia area

Funnily enough I'm in a similar position where today is my character's creation anniversary, his actual in game birthday, and my own in game birthday. Truth be told that's the only reason I remember when Beta Phase 4 started.

Haha, yeah I remember that, not that they even needed to say it, all they had to do was have Yoshi himself pop online and the aetheryte plaza was promptly flash mobbed. ;)

Also that special event they ran right at the end which was officially broadcast online during a Japanese convention, when the GMs let adamantoises, golems and iron giants into Gridania which promptly tore up the place - bodies were everywhere, it was great fun (technically the Alpha is still bound by the NDA so we really shouldn't be mentioning it, but that event was shown online publicly so it should be okay I hope.)

Ah, memories. :)

2 years already?!? Keep them coming! Me and the wife joined in P3 and still playing today, love this game!

I kept trying to make a lancer tank in release, but the updates kept invalidating the crafted gear I'd start on. Gridania needs a tank badly.

Yep, other than hair color change (I went from all black to purple/black), my Miqo'te is the same, well, except she's a NIN now and not a WHM and BRD.

Well this is my 1st year anniversary with this game (played since July 2014) :D

Ahhh the phase 4 beta... Even then the hustler in me then was making gil, selling overpriced Orange juices to lazy adventurers that didn't want to run back to Ul'dah because they wanted to dye their outfits. :)

There was an FC named "1017" for a while at least on Balmung.

Haha, I remember this. The most popular question when ARR released was "Where can I find Orange Juice?!".

In Heavensward, I think it's been "Where can I find this Moogle's Masterpiece?!"

Phase 3 player here... 2 years already? Where has the time gone? D:

Feels like just yesterday I was starting out as a lowly Conjurer in Gridania, facing down the evil ladybugs and toadstools of the Black Shroud in my hideous red hat, yellow robe, and blue pants. Ahh memories.

Use say in the text commands & ( auto translate ) gg was pretty hard doing tht as it was on ps3 and my 1st mmo and no one knew kinda at release how to fix the chatbox lol
