Dated equipment? someone explain this to me...

So I hear all this equipment with DATED on teh name will dissapear int eh next patch right?..

What was the point of this?

Almost half of my items are dated...minus some NM drops and dungeon items...

What was teh idea behind turning all my equipment into nothingness? I dont get this..

Not sure either...But I think Dated equipment cannot use materia (SE way of getting us to get new gear) but it can turn into materia. Anyone else confirm or deny...?

Dated equipment wont dissapear. It's just... well, dated. You cant put materia on it so the new gear will end up being better than the dated ones. You can keep your dated equipment or turn it into materia.

The recipes that make what is now "Dated" gear will disappear in 1.20 but I haven't heard anything about the actual equipment disappearing.

because of recipe changes so most of gears turn into dated. you cannot attach materia,but you can convert it.

Um did you miss the zillion posts about pretty much every recipe being redone? It's called a complete redo. New recipes, new gear, same names, and new stats...

And all of it is not going to disappear in next patch well it might but it's being phased out slowly. Sides you don't want anything dated anyways it's much weaker then same name item that is new.

This was needed to rebalance all the gear with all the changes...and moving to their new system.

And your gear isn't nothing you can turn it into materia which you can slot into your new gear. Yet again another person that opens their mouth and complains...where have you been the last month for all the post changes? Did you even look at the zillion page post of every new recipe and updates to all items in game...???? Did you even gloss at the patch notes...seriously...TROLL here troll there...really really getting annoyed.

i also wonder if dated gear will dissapear ever... gear like canvas and bronze haubergeon set arent replicated at all in new recipes. majority of my dated gear i'm getting rid of. but some of it like the canvas coatee set on my gf's char. she doesnt want to get rid of em b/c well they are "pink" lol. and there arent any new pink gear so.... any1 know exactly what is happening to dated gear at 1.20 or 1.21?

there are no plans to remove the dated gear or syns in 1.20

Dated gear is NOT getting erased. What will be erased (in 1.21) are the recipes for dated gear. The recipes were originally getting erased in 1.20, but they delayed it to 1.21 because they felt the general public hasn't had enough time to "adjust" to the new recipes. (which is true because I still see people making and selling dated gear for some reason.)

They had to do this, the old gear could not be changed to allow for materia slots (programming restrictions) so in order to add materia they had to create all new gear. What the programming did allow them to do was simply change the name of all the old gear (adding dated).

With dated recipes gone in 1.21, the idea is that all the dated equipment will slowly and naturally get deleted from the game because it has sub-par stats. No one will want to wear it, and no one will want to buy it, so the only choice is to turn it into materia. Viola, its out of the game.

Eventually, they will all be gone (unless someone wants to keep it for some strange reason.)

I think the idea is to eventually work the majority of the dated items out of the system organically via the creation of materia and the inability to create new dated gear due to some of there components being impossible to create.

Ie yowyow's girl friend's pink coatee will not be removed from her by force. How ever once the components flush out of the market never to be replaced (specifically the dye) it will become a increasingly rare piece as no new ones are being created and old ones are being turned into materia. Then eventually it will simply become a relic of the old system.
