4 to 5 days maintenance

There will be 4 to 5 days maintenance, we have to ask your patience there. What we are planning at the moment: There are some EU recommended servers in an ADC (American Data Center). All the data from these servers will be copied to the EUDC (European Data Center). We will check the safety of the data, if they are secured okay. Once confirmed, we will ask players to log in. So some time is needed for copying the data and also for the check. This is why we have to ask for the 4 or 5 days maintenance, but after the maintenance you just log in and you will be in the new data center. We want to make it as smooth as possible for the players. All the details will become available on a later date, so please keep an eye out.

Will this be applied to all datacenters or only 'EU'?

I would assume the "extended" maintenance would be for those servers apart of the new EU center.

Not only do they have to copy all of that server information, but also migrate it to the new location, test it, and hope it works once everything is turned on.

As for the rest of us, I don't see how anything has to be done other than deleting the EU data from our data centers.

That's just asking to piss off a much larger player base than is necessary. Those that will want to migrate to the new data centers, will. I am willing to bet some kind of free transfer will be mentioned for those that wish to play on an EU server as well...

Ugh, wasn't expecting such a long maintenance. I hope it'll be worth it.

I can only hope they'll pay as much attention to the European data center as they do to others.

time to transfer to NA and transfer back after the maintenance is completed =D

I would expect a shorter maintenance hitting the NA servers while stuff is getting prepared for the move, but I doubt you guys will get hit by the full 4-5 days.

I don't think so, though I could be wrong. I'd assume that they'll bring down the EU servers so the data isn't changing anymore and then copy it so they can move it to the new datacenter, which shouldn't affect the American servers.

I know next to nothing about running servers, so I'm just spitballing.

I'm guessing the originator was fishing for 'maintenance outrage' posts, but I honestly don't mind. That's going to be a ton of data, can't just email it. Probably going to have to download it onto portable drives and fly them over. Hopefully they won't get lost in transit. Then, as mentioned, there's the testing and more testing before the flip the network switch. While I hopefully won't be too adversely affected, this is can only be good things for those that do play in Europe. What's a few days in the face of that?

Actually, the outage will be all encompassing so that no one group of players will be left out during the process. Remember that so far there has been no time in which this game has been available to only certain regions (barring internet weather).

Yup, I am EXTREMELY looking forward to this.
The difference measly 20-30ms of difference make for me when playing using WTFast is GINORMOUS! I can't even begin to imagine how nice the gaming experience will be when I drop to ~30-40ms delay from the current 140ish... I would gladly even trade 2 weeks of playtime for this.

I have no idea how they're actually going to do it, but couldn't they just download the data directly from one datacenter to another. If it's a lot of data to transfer, you're also not going to be using regular portable drives to do the transfer.

My abandoned ninja is crying with joy and will dream of spamming mudras happily for those 5 days.

We're not talking mBs or gBs here. I have a feeling it's going to be in the tBs of data per server. If they are sending all that data over the internet then the days could be the time spent downloading it all. That seems a little inefficient to me. Easier to just download it onto portable drives, box it up and fly it across overnight. Put them in a carryon and fly Air France with Takeshi from accounting (or whatever air carrier is appropriate with where they are putting the EU center).

Really going to be disappointed if NA is brought down for the full length of time too. I'm sure there's a way around having to do that.

I wonder if we'll get a composation for that, i mean, we pay for a whole month and we'll get probably a week without acces. I don't mean a refund but maybe some cosmetics items or Cs money, like they did in Rift for exemple :)

5 days of reimbursed game time or something would be most fair. Especially if they plan on impacting people with a 5 day maintenance who do not benefit from it at all (NA players/JP players).

This would cost them money and they don't seem to be the type to "throx it away" to please the community :/

Better off just not bringing the NA/JP servers down for 5 days then. No point in depriving them of the ability to play when they aren't benefiting from the maintenance in any way. EU players will benefit considerably so they shouldn't fuss about the maintenance anyways.

I don't know if there is a competition between world CL in achieving the content, like we saw in other game, i was talking about that kind of equality but if there isn't, well i agree with you, better not bringing the others servers down ^^

i hope this doesnt happen right after 3.1 hits since its around that timeframe sadly. would piss people off royally.

I think that prolonging our subscription by the amount of downtime is the most we might get, and frankly it's all that we should ask for.

Hopefully doesn't affect NA Players. I don't see them affecting JP Players either, with how high a pedastoole SE puts JP Players on.

But yea... I'd be a little annoyed if they took down NA servers for 5 days to increase QoL for EU servers, but as I don't understand how it works? I iamgine they'll only affect NA/JP if they are forced to.

Do you realise they have to get rid of all the EU data? I don't think that something like this is possible without turning the servers down completely. There are so many items, so many data..

It all depends on the exact infrastructure, of course.

If the NA and EU servers are "that bunch over there" then yeah, NA will have to at the very least get turned off for a while.

If the NA servers are the bunch on the left, and the EU servers are the bunch on the right, NA shouldn't necessarily be affected.

To the Americans that seem upset they might lose a day or two in the game because Europe gets a quality of life upgrade, though? Suck it up. We've dealt with latency that made a lot of boss fights harder than they should be since 2.0 went live, it's time we got the EU servers located on the proper continent.

Not our faults that SE decided to group you with us. No sense in advocating for us to "suck it up" as if we had some sort of say in the matter. Very childish.

We have a right to be upset, particularly if we get our servers taken down for as long as yours with no reimbursement. You are benefiting from the moving, NA players are not, but may still suffer.

The majority of the downtime will be testing. Stability testing, integration testing, load balancing testing, etc.
I doubt the transfer of the data will take more than 2 days out of the 4-5 day maintenance.
So yeah, I wouldn't expect NA to be down longer than a day, but who knows...

more info will come, I am sure SE will tell us in more detail when that time come, no need to jump the gun

What EU datas on NA servers? There is not even a connection with DF between EU servers and NA servers. They are just in the same location and that was it.

They will shut down the EU servers, don't allow server transfer to or from EU servers, copy all the datas, fly them over to EU, upload the datas into the new servers, check if everything is alright, turn on the new servers and build down the old servers, while NA servers are still running the whole time.

And of couse giving every player with an EU SE account 5 free days and a free Fantasia ^^ /jk
