AFK FC with a housing plot.

So I've seen this small plot in Mist empty very long time already and thought to myself... "why no one has bought this yet?"

I went to investigate it and saw it was plot owned by FC. FC that hasn't been online a very long time (by the looks of it when stalking them all in Lodestone). After talking with friends about it, I found out that FC who has plot, BUT not build on it can keep it as long as they wish(?).

SE this is BS. BS to those FCs or people who want private houses AND have the money for it.

It's a problem OP and I completely sympathize with you. =/ 8 months and counting, this house owned by a FC with only one player who hasn't been online either (same gear equipped on lodestone) is locked to them... And I want it so badly >_<

SE, either make more plots or do something about this!

There already is the rule that you have to log on once a month to keep your house, idk if that goes for plot. (Don't know if that rule applies to private housing too but FC at least?) I think it would be fair that after 1 month(30days) if you can't find 5 mins to log on to check on house, you lose it PLUS the plot. I know houses aren't cheap, but maybe that means you shouldn't have one if you don't have time.

The rule that you have to log in to keep your house was never implemented, just discussed. It is not in place (unless I'm mistaken, but I don't think I am).

The issue here is not with the FC. The FC did nothing wrong - they bought a plot, and maybe one of them will come back to the game in the future and finally use it. There's nothing wrong with this. What's wrong is that there is a finite amount of land. That's the issue here. If everyone had the ability to buy land, which they should be able to, no one would care if a plot sat bought and unused. Having finite housing, but with no housing market and no management or upkeep means the available housing spots will slowly dwindle while still taking up SE's server resources. This system is bad. It favors no one. SE is spending money maintaining servers for content that is unused by people who no longer play, and as a result, has less to spend on content for newer players.

I really wish neighborhoods weren't a thing. I wish we had instanced housing. For the same amount of server resources, SE could support significantly more houses because the ones that aren't being used wouldn't need to be instantiated. A plot that's never used and has no house? That wouldn't take up any resources at all! I don't understand how the advantage of being able to wander people's houses in an open-world setting is better than the ability to give everyone with means a house. I'm not saying give one to everyone, I'm saying, give everyone the ability to acquire one. Heck, if they still wanted neighborhoods, they could make them dynamic. Every maintenance, auto-shift the wards to include only active houses. Dynamically allocate neighborhoods. Limit the ability for someone to purchase specific housing plots based on what's active so you don't get everyone in the same spot in the neighborhood. But even then, who cares about neighborhoods? Far more people want the ability to have houses, period, but are not able to than who want neighborhoods.


Housing that is permanent once purchased, but finite in supply? How is this still a thing?

At first I thought you were talking about my FC because the tag is <AFK> and I'm the only one in it. :D

When housing became a problem, they put up rules about people owning land.

Now, for people owning a plot and having a house built on it, I remember the rule being 3 months. Example, I would have to use the house I built (actually go inside of the house) and that would reset your 3 month timer, this timer is also reset by people who use the same house that are part of your FC. If you fail to do this in the 3 month timer, the land will auto-relinquish.

I'm not exactly sure if this works for people who actually just -own- the plot with nothing built on it. It sounds like they bought it to re-sell it back at a mark up price, because land is at a pretty high price now (pending server).

Proposed, never implemented. (If I'm wrong about this, please feel free to correct me with a quote from actual patch notes.)

On Ward 2, The Goblet in the Lich World there are two plots like that. They're close to the FC House of the company I'm member of and since they've been like that pretty much since I began to play, I was always wondering why no one has done anything about that? Or why the plots weren't freed and put on sale again after so much time has passed. I started playing in October, 2014.

It sounds like its coming at the same time as the moving feature, so I'm guessing they're going to preserve house contents for people who lose their housing due to these timeouts just like they do for someone who is moving their house. That'd be fair to all parties, imo.

A decay system would be great, but there's also the issue of plots not being available. I've also seen where 1 member has multiple houses in the same or different plots. Its bad enough the plots are expensive, as well as limited in size. SE also needs to come up with a new system for the plots. Have the houses be expandable based on meeting certain requirements. this will alleviate the issue of the plot size availability. FC want to expand the size, do a quest/mission, and the home expands.
