I actually got to experiance old style xp camp once in this game

One time I did AV the first big room and I was the tank. Our ranged dps said to just stay right there at the entrence while he pulled the mobs back to us. It went really smooth, no links, I was able to get hate back just fine, and he pulled like one set of mobs at a time.

That was the only place I ever got to experience the camp-pull back In this game.

Only reason it really worked in there is because mobs will actually chase you through the entire dungeon, but out in the open world mobs wont chase you more than 2 feet.

Why wont they make it possible to do that in the open world again?

I really enjoyed that experience in AV.

While i'd love the nostalgia, i would hate being chased by 2 random mobs through an entire area again.

Eh, no thanks. I'd prefer to avoid the mob trains. Not a fan of them before in older mmo's, don't see me suddenly changing my mind on it now.

That's some mighty nostalgia there. Yeah, that sounded awesome, actually. I mean, I've experienced the tenacity of Vale mobs first hand (unwantedly, mind...) but never thought to make a camp in a dungeon. And it sounds like it was fun, too. We need more fun in this game, genuine fun.

Would nostalgia with you again, 10/10.

I miss it tbh, but I would like the option of alternates as we have now. XP grinding build relationships between the community, some of my fondest memories in MMOs is from those grind groups. Maybe if they fixed chain XP and increased overall mob exp, it would be worth it.

Even death you lose exp and if you lose all EXP you lose a level and bye bye level gear :P

Bah! It's what made those zones in FFXI so great. Funny as hell watching them go by and trampling everything in their way.

The major reason there was a dedicated "puller" in XI but doesn't need to be in XIV is because tanks actually have a ranged attack besides pebbles and Dia (WAR's Tamahawk was a merited ability at 75 iirc.)

That said, pulling was one of my favorite activities in XI. I pulled on THF. I pulled on BRD. I pulled in exp camps, I pulled in Dynamis, I pulled open world bosses. I live pulled, I sac pulled. If it moved, I pulled it. I loved the satisfying feeling of a well aimed snipe - something that we unfortunately can't get in parties in XIV since everything and its uncle links.

Garbage citadel =D, 5 years of FFXI and never heard that one. Made me genuinely laugh

What i really miss is changing gears while in combat. Ive been using way less macros in FFXIV because usually hotkeys are enough now since you dont have to gear swap to maximize your damage

We kinda had that in 1.0 too! It was great :D Really miss those days.

Yeah I hear you. My black mage had different gear on every spell.I'm oom better swap in my hoodie for extra mp! Then I'll take it off and show you my tats while I cast lol.

I really felt bad for melee in ffxi though they had some goofy as hell gear like the o-hat ugh god.

That's nice OP! I would love to experience something like that. The closest I got was sacking in AV. lol The tank sacked some of the rooms where it was possible, we ate the death and got raised, which has the unique kink of working as the Tractor spell in FFXI. This is something people used to do a lot to skip dangerous areas back then. Yes apparently everyone was ok with not getting as much exp just to get out of there ASAP. :P

It add another dynamic besides sit and spam skills. I miss it too, it could have a place in this game in certain areas.

Did your party die when you pulled more than 2 mobs? Did you lose a boatload of xp when it happened? Did you have to run all the way back from your homepoint?
Did someone run a train of mob into your party cause you had their spot?

No? I guess you didn't really experience an old style camp LOL

J/k. I do sometimes miss this kind of party too. Would be kind of interesting if they threw in a few areas that would allow this in the future, so players could have even more choices on what they would like to do for levelling.

Hey, there's an idea for FF14 bards who still complain about their damage relative to other DPS:

Pull mobs back to camp and play songs. Don't bother trying to DPS. Go leave and start pulling the next set. Thanks.

I don't think thats ever coming back nor should it. If you want to group up for experience grinding theres always dungeons.

I didn't play FFXI but I did play games where this was possible, and you know what? I don't really remember the camp parties very well, what I DO remember is people training mobs onto other players, or training world bosses into settlements, or otherwise just making life hell for as many other people as possible by pulling bunches of enemies where they really shouldn't be.

That's probably a good part of why it's not a part of modern design. That and it makes traversing areas more annoying without adding difficulty and is a pretty brain dead method of leveling that does little to teach people how to play in any content with actual mechanics.

No...just no...I like that mobs "give up" after they reach their leash. that would just be insane and a pain. A player could pull the entire zone and take everyone's mobs away and it would cause more issues I think than make people happy.
