i wish hairstyles werent limited to race

i love my au ra hair but i cant stand the skin disease look and how short au ra are.
and hyur emotes are so much better but hyur hair choices are soo bad

Same, they should be opening the hair styles to all races, and all genders while they're at it. Some of those male Highlander styles would look great on female characters. It's part of what's keeping me from entering that hair style contest. All my great ideas are already in the game... on another race in a different gender.

You and me both...I just switched back to Midlander because the Au Ra is too tiny for me...but I miss the hairstyles haha

I feel the same way about the miqo hairstyles. There were a few styles available to au ra that I really miss now that I've switched back.

I dunno what they're gonna do about the Au Ra hairstyles as far as making them usable by other races. So many of them have the little added horns that would look really funky and out of place on... well... anything but an Au Ra.

Jenlyn's hair.... its midlander and im highlander..... wanted it for years.

I want Ilberd's hair on my FemRoe. It's a male Hyur hairstyle only though :(

SE is so big on their lore for this game, so I'd love to see the justification for this from that POV.

Race-locked hairstyles have always been stupid and always will be.

I rather SE rework the entire Character Creation first before we start worrying about hair sharing and stuff.

If bangs were optional, sure, but personally I prefer hairstyles with bangs and would not want them removed.

More hairstyles would be great for everyone... I loved my au ra hair but I just couldn't stay au ra in the end.

I'm all for racial-specific clothing. We should see more of this.
But hair is hair. It doesn't seem like any race has anything biologically different growing on their heads. It should be quite possible to cut and style it in a way regardless of the race of scalp growing the cuticles.

That being said, more racial-specific clothing plz.

as a roe I would kill for that braided hair that the female highlanders get. I agree with the op. Sure at the start make it exclusive but in X.1 patches and beyond make it slowly accessible to other races.

I always found it strange that elezen female were the only females that had the "shaved" head look. I think a lot of the hairstyles should be cross gendered and races. Certain aura hairstyles have horns, but I'm sure SE will just say they can't remove them for some reason or other they always give.

I think the opposite is needed, we need more bangs and rough/wild hairstyles not more princess/clean ones.

Unlocking the race-locked hairstyles for other races would basically solve the "new hairstyles pls!" requests. We have a handful of hairstyles for each race, sure, and yet I continue to see the same 2-3 on most characters. Because for each race, among the handful, there's maybe like 2-3 that any one person actually likes, maybe 5 after the gradual additions. But the game is two years old. Cycling through 5 hairstyles has gotten old. And at the same time, there are, for me personally, about 3 Au Ra 'dos that I'm really in love with - probably everyone could find at least that many in other races' hairstyles if they were unlocked. They are already in-game, it wouldn't require resources to come up with new designs, it wouldn't add more data to the game - at most they'd need to make some minor adjustments, but that's it. Variety would increase greatly. When we have so many people all across the realm, and a master aesthetician, I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to style our hair whichever way we want to, regardless of race. If anything, it's 2-3 that they should be keeping race-exclusive.

My only complaint with the current racial specific clothing is none of it seems to have context towards the race except the Au Ra tbh, it all just seems like "Cute/Regular outfit for x". Like most of the Miqo'te we see in game are desert hunters or they live in the forest and function as hunters there (Which is kinda built into their genes).. And the girl's have a miniskirt, thigh highs, and a so much skin showing, I can't begin to understand what culture they come from with that clothing.

Bangs clip to high hell on everything and completely hide circlets and scale patterns. Severely limits my hair choices.

Most of them are stupid "everything to the eyebrows is covered" stuff that I haven't seen on a rl lady in years anyway. I don't have them. I'm running an A line bob with some layers in the back with no bangs. I'd kill for that for my Elezen. Nope. Every bob in game has shitty thick fringe.

Yes. Please. Give us all the hair. All genders and especially all races.

I love female roegadyn. But they also have terrible hair. All the female roegadyn hairstyles feature weird ponytails, hair accessories, and really really REALLY weird-looking long hair selections.

I would love to have some of the female highlander hairstyles on female roegadyn.

I did make a lalafell alt at some point. I prefer playing female characters but ended up rolling male when I realized there weren't any short hairs available to them or anything that wasn't extremely cutesy.

Enter that contest advertised on ffxiv website about hairstyles suggest what you want. I entered a Johnny Depp hairstyle for the men and a Rachel McAdams hairstyle for the women. Idk about each and every race but you can enter that contest and suggest what you would like. Doesn't mean they are going to do it but doesn't hurt to try.

I'd love to see all hairstyles unlocked for all races before this "create your own" contest thing.

Yeah, I'm really hoping some of the Au Ra hairstyles are shared. And honestly, there's a short Highlander hair that I've wanted on my Midlander forever... Oh well...

I want more short hair options for women. Really tired of 90% of the hairstyles available being long.

I feel as if Auri males (and maybe females) have alot more unique hairstyle options than all the other races, save for Miqo'tes

Off the top of my head, customization options are a bit lacking.

Sure, we get a bunch of options when it comes to things like eye, hair and skin color, but facial features is a bit lacking. If you've played other MMOs, chances are you've played one with a really awesome character creator, and it just makes the lack of options in this game all the more obvious.

At the very least, why not make all the available options between the different faces (for a specific race) available for your character? That would be a huge step in letting us make really unique looking characters.


I'm sure someone will come back stating that character data limitations don't allow for this, but hey, older games have managed to provide far more options. Time to tweak some things** and make it happen!

I'm fine either way if I'm being honest. While there are certainly hairstyles I would like to have available to me, I do appreciate that all the races have exclusive options (hair and starting gear) available to them on top of their already unique appearances. I think it's a nice extra touch that adds more flavor to the overall world. /shrug

Some hairstyles just look weird on other races. Almost all of the roeM hairstyles have this weird non-human hairline. The 1 Femroe hairstyle they added to all races has this problem too. I'd like to get the dreads for males though, but I'm not holding my breath.
