Well, the level 60 mining quest gives me a 0% chance of HQ. As a brand new level 60, and one who's been playing above 50 for about 6 weeks total, how do I get perception above that 565 mark without spending 2 million gil on level 60 gear and then trying to learn to Meld my way to 566 ?
One would think that this general quest would be as simple as at level 50, which did not require anything ridiculous.
Ok, so most of my gear is level 55, because they didn't have anything else after that until 60.
suggestions please ?

Buy them off the marketboard.
Level crafting classes and make the gear, then spiritbind your way to all the Materia you need to meld it.
If you can get close, food may provide those last points of Perception you need. -

With HQ level 60 gear + tools you'll have a decent chance without melds. I think mine was around 9%.
If you want to mine at level 60 you're going to need this gear anyway. Yes it costs money. Yes it's 'difficult' in the sense that it demands that you've kept up with basic gearing. You might need to do a little work to get there. I don't think being unable to complete a quest within a few minutes of getting it is that bad a thing. It gives you objectives to work towards.
If you're absolutely strapped for cash, upgrade your tools and try to hit at least 1% HQ so you can buff it up. Food might also help. -

The Trailblazer set actually is working for me, I'm at 570.
Grab an HQ Axe and an HQ Scythe, and put perception materia in them, that will give you 570 like me. -

Fact is you don't really need to complete the L60 quest at all. You will need better gear eventually in order to do gathering end game content, so, gather away, sell stuff and buy the equipment you need as you go. Eventually, your perception will be high enough to finish the quest.
You can easily farm stuff to earn enough for an HQ piece of gear every hour. For example, just farming the NQ adamantite will earn you 90K per hour (King's Yield is your friend) and an HQ body is ~ 200K. -

I don't know how much is needed for atleast 1% HQ. but you can just aim for that 1% and use the Brunt force for an extra gathering attempt to proc the 100% HQ gather if you are on your 6th (or was it 5th?) hit.

On my server it would have cost me about 2 million gil to purchase the HQ gear necessary to get perception up past 565.
Lucky me -- HQ Adamantite Ore only costs 18k each ... you go figure out which way Square Enix is teaching folks to complete a quest.
The level 50 quest was waaaaay simpler to do with level 47-49 gear. You didn't need the Miner HQ gear set to complete it.
[I have some extremely nice friends on my server who are master crafters who provided me with the Adamantite ore AND much better gear this morning ... with perception just at 565 + perception food I managed to get three HQ Adamantite off the first attempt on the node. The End-Game should begin after the level 60 quest, not during ... Just saying]. -

Secondly, if you are going to complain about a system in the game, you should at least do your research before making the judgement. A fullset of Trailblazer gear will get you to 247g 220p, add a vendor-bought Adamantite Dolabra and Sledgehammer and you're up to 524g 494p, buy a NQ Dragonskin Belt (+25p) from the marketboard (or find a crafter friend) which i'd be shocked is massively expensive on most servers for the NQ version. This brings you up to 524g 519p.Quote:
