Thavnairian Headdress is poorly designed

The rest of the female Thavnairian set is absolutely beautiful, but I feel that whoever designed the headdress dropped the ball. I have assembled images of all the hairstyles my character can have so that it is easy to see how badly the ribbons clip the different styles. 17 of these styles look terrible with it in my opinion.

Also the front of the headdress is barely visible on most of the fringed styles.

I don't expect this piece to look perfect on every hairstyle, some of them such as style number 6 are too oddly shaped, but I do think it should at least look good on the majority of them.

Perhaps the size of the headdress could be increased overall, so that the gold banding can sit just over a fringe and the ribbons would be moved further away from the hair.

It's good that you provided the images for it lol. For the most part, these visual problems are sort of unrealistic to change to match (even decently) every type. It's sort of like actual accessories that you might wear IRL. To make them more visible, you actually do need to change your hairstyle. People with long hair, for example, may want to tie their hair back to make a bandana or something visible. In this case though, I think the design team neglected the impact of positioning and size of the headdress when applied to the actual model and hairstyles used across varied races. They probably just used a hairless character model to get the positioning and size variance down. It's probably just how things are done, so I doubt any sort of change will be made on it.

I agree. It looks terrible, and I have never had any desire to own it despite having all the rest of the set.

I don't know. It looks like they took hair into consideration when designing the Eternal Bond veils. It's not perfect for all styles but at least it doesn't look like it's buried inside your head.

I love the style of the turban with the veil. One of my favorite styles to wear on my character.

They probably took that item a tiny bit more serious, considering what it is supposed to be.
Can't really hide helmet during that certain event.

Same. It's the closest thing to the Sha'ir set from FFXI so far. Acquiring the set (mainly the manteel) is one of my fondest memories from the game lol. Finally getting that unique looking set that only a couple others at most had on the server had... until Aht Urhgan.

I didn't even realize the Thav head piece had a gold band in the front. I thought it was just 2 cloth flappers on the back sides of your head.

I can see why this is worth taking a look at, maybe some adjustments can be made to help, but I think this is to be expected to some extent. To avoid all clipping would severely limit what kind of armor the developers can create. I'd rather have variety, with clipping, than the alternative. FFXI had very little clipping, but that was only achieved by having characters stand in awkward positions and by keeping most armor roughly the same shape and size. The variety we find in FFXIV is possible, in part, because they allow some clipping to occur from time to time.

I don't have any screenshots but one of my good friends actually had one made for me tonight.
It dyes like the chest piece. It dyes the color you choose and different shades of that color. So a monochromatic look. It's nice :3

EDIT: It also doesn't clip horridly like the female headpiece does.

It suits perfekt for my dragoon outfit!

Now you know why I want less bangs.

Valerian Shaman's Temple Chain is similar, there's stuff on the sides that gets hidden by my hair, but forehead is free so iit looks good.

Circlets are the main reason I say F bangs.

I'd prefer if the forehead part wasn't visible through bangs at all, rather than being moved on top of the hair... but that's mostly just me not liking forehead things, lol. I got the headdress mostly for the frilly part, I like to pretend they're like little bows under my Miqo'te's ears. :D

The frills do look really odd, though. :x Is it like that with all the Au Ra horn styles? Or is it just that particular one?

It's one of the main reasons I decided not to make one of them and sold off my extra silks.

They probably designed the thavnarian headress with a lalafel in mind tho.



(I dont know what it looks like on other races...so im assuming people dont just like the dress for the hype and have actual taste. Because otherwise I dont really get why they dont like it :p )

Yeah. I was real surprised to see only few of these selling on my server. It's the best looking piece, on par with the dress itself.

agree with you op but don't agree with the rest of the set being correct.

I made a thread in the suggestions section with pics as well regarding the stiff ..unnatural flare of the body piece. That too needs some love ^^ From the side the chest piece looks very silly which is why I wont make it for now. However I do like the rest of the set enough to have made it.

Hopefully they design gear to be more realistic to hang/drape while wearing it not sticking out almost 45 degree angle looking like cardboard!

I noticed this too. Some clipping is inevitable, but the headdress looks terrible with most hairstyles...

I always wondered what it was supposed to look like because all the hairstyles i tried it on with hid it!

Some people are commenting that it is impossible to avoid all clipping. I truly do understand that and as I said initially I'm not expecting perfection in all things, but some level of quality should be present. These six hairstyles in particular are awful with it, but these styles are fairly straightforward in shape. There shouldn't be any excuses for this level of bad.
