I have some Gil ready to buy those Kimono's/Yukata's from last year...! I wasn't around then... Kicking myself for stopping the subscription...
But this tactic of putting event stuff up in the Cashshop that were easily gotten in game from a vendor!? NO! BAD!!
I don't have any cash right now! I don't even know if I'll HAVE it in time for the dang event! It's why I've waited to rely on the in game vendors!
And now I won't even have the opportunity!?
No, it's always got to be down to the almighty dollar!
For god sakes, stop putting DUMB items into the Cash Shop! Old event items aren't meant for that, or at least... that's how I see it!

Or, if it's possible to take the middle ground... Sell the old items in game via Vendor for the time of the event, BUT put them up in the shop AFTER the event is over for those who still want them!
I think that's a good middle point...

I think it'd be fair to have the items available from an NPC if they're from the same event (Moon Faire, Halloween, Christmas, Easter, ect), and then have them in the cash shop as well. That way you have the ability to get the items in the game for a limited amount of time every year, or if you were to miss the event again or someone were to join after the event, they could get the items without waiting a whole year, they'd just have to pay for it.

What you're describing is this hybrid way they put in during the 1.0>2.0 transition for events before the cash shop launched. -

If SE had to have cash shop items I'd prefer it to be those though... rather than exclusive never available in game before item. Of course the prefence is no cash shop at all, but they've proven that's not an option.

Not adding these vanity items to the cash shop would be the equivalent of leaving money on the table. I rather they take your money to better this game. Besides, the precedent has already been set, so just get your wallet ready when the time comes. -

Also, the thing about the cash shop (cause that's where all the yukatas are going) is that for events, it doesn't just hold it FOR the event duration. The past event stock is still there since it was implemented last Halloween.
So yeah, if you don't have the cash now, don't worry. You can still buy it when you do.
That's their compromise in concerns to the old event items though. You can't ever miss the old ones now.
They want the cash shop model, it's here to stay. Deal with it. -

So, because you cant buy them with gil you want people to not obtain it with cash? Thats just obsurd. Of the threads that were floating around a week or so ago many had hoped itd return via cash shop and let there be new items for this years event. Although I'm usually against cash shops, particularly for MMORPGs, I believe its fair to have past items available through there as a second chance. The yukatas werent simply bought with gil (well, not the nicer ones) they were through low-level quests, so vendoring them would be a kick in the shins to whomever earned them last year. The small change these items sell for on mog station isnt going to break the bank - even if I went back to student days Id still find the 5-10 bucks by selling tutoring or cut back on donuts.

People had to be subbed to get these items. Consider it this way.. buying from the cash shop is like paying for the subscription you would of payed had you subbed during the event period.

Thing is, when they sold them on vendor npcs last year up until October, it was to cycle old 1.x seasonal event items back into the game so everyone would have a shot at getting them. Last year's summer event was the last one in which the previous year's rewards were from pre-ARR, so they actually did kind of set a precedent once that was finished and they introduced the cash shop just before the halloween event and started selling previous 2.x event rewards on it. I can understand that seems unfair and needless that's just how it is though. Not much can change it at this point. But as others in this thread have said, it's a lot better system than just never making the items available again, but also for a development team that has complained about space limitations in the past it probably beats placing an npc with multiple pages of numerous years worth of items on it and a hundred plus players trying to access it at once.
Also for what it's worth, once an event item goes up on the cash shop it doesn't come back down, or at least none have yet. They're available all year round. With the vendor npc, it was only available while the event was happening so if you end up missing the event for whatever reason, you just missed the npc as well. -
