Thank you for sharing these! Really excited to see more info on the redesigns.
IN NEW EORZEA... I love it.
The point is the proof that they ARE reworking some stuff.
Thanks for catching these, I wish I owned the file of that picture so I could scrutinise it to my heart's desire!
Hmmm... Is that Coerthas on the first one?
Looks like the second one is a snowy area. :D
First one coul be the Black Shroud prerty dramatic change if that is the case, the city there looks like its built on water like Limsa.
It's from the live, when they showed this 2 pictures.

Q: When will the map will be renewed for XIV? I’ve been waiting for long time...#XIVLive
A: We'll answer in next live event we hold! However, let me show you something as we are on Live. This is the dev. document about Gridania. As you can see, it’s a very major change! In any case, let me give you more details in the next live event!
In my line of work, saying you're working on something, but having no back up visuals to "prove" you're actually doing the work isn't good enough. So yes. They are just showing a quick little tease of "see?? we're actually doing this and it's more than a few notes on paper"

OMG, they are working on something they've already said they are working on? Wow! I couldn't have figured that out without them showing me a picture of the concept design that I can't make ANYTHING out of.
It's a case of showing nothing vs. showing these concept pics.
I guess some people really prefer the former.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't with this community.
Those were some nicely compiled images, that must of taken some time. I think they are busting their arses. Glad to see that. Makes me appreciate the scale of the effort they are undertaking.
I think it shows off nicely the plan to implement three distinct areas per zone.
Can't wait to see the next youtube live ! we will get alot more info
I don't know, but one of those areas seems like it'll be Silvertear Falls or somewhere up North.
These pictures may be small, but they do provide the answer to a huge question. Namely, that the area redesign is not simply going to touch up the current areas. These areas are being radically altered. At least one of them is being wiped and rebuilt from the ground up.
Hell. Yes.
Hell yes!
HELL YES!!!!
On the second image, I'm pretty sure the upper right "Landmark" says クリスタルタワー (crystal tower), but nothing else is legible. :(
Hopefully they put these images (and the job concept art too) online so we can actually see them.
I can barely make out the text, but the first one seems to be a new zone entirely, as I don't see Gridania's name anywhere(although he did say "Gridania" a few times), and that second one seems to say Thanalan, but I can't make out all the text. I still think it's Silvertear though.
That first one also seems to have a city or town on the top that doesn't look like Gridania to me, and I doubt they're going THAT radical.
Yeah second pic says north thanalan
I believe I can sort of make out the text in the bottom left portion of this picture. I believe it says:
荒野 FLD ZONES 北ザナラーン Ver0.8b
Which (roughly) translates to:
Barren Lands FLD (Field) Zones Northern Thanalan Ver0.8b
And it does indeed look like it's Northern Thanalan too, because that picture in the bottom center looks like those factory-looking thingies you see in that zone, and the top right the text reads as "Crystal Tower" - and it was mentioned somewhere in-game that those factory-looking thingies were related to crystals somehow, right?
I stand corrected. That does look like the kanji for north. Sounds credible seeings as how Northern Thanalan is on the border of Mor Dhona, and it'd make sense to have crystal-related stuff there.
Oh man... The lore nut inside me is in shambles. Just more signs that we can kiss the already established lore goodbye. I really, REALLY wish they'd introduce a sort of "phasing" system like they did with Guild Wars and Cataclysm(I think) where there's some sort of storyline "trigger" that takes you from the original to the "new" world. Sort of like FFVI's world of balance to ruin.
That would seem like a good way to bridge the "peaceful" Eorzea to the "Wartorn broken" one.
I also took some, smaller but bit more detailed.

Looks interesting, You will notice they scribbled some stuff off, "Landmarks" for example, which looked like a giant fish lol
IIRC they have been hinting that the redesigns will result from ingame events tied to the upcoming era change. I could be misremembering though. I could certainly see the Shroud redesign coming from some sort of disaster; fires or earthquake leveling part of the forest, while floods drown out another.
hopefully we can get thoose pics posted fullsize on lodestone in the near future.
As much as I would like to see the concept art in a scanned form. I am not sure they will upload hi-res versions. After all it is an internal, and subject to change developer document. I hope I am wrong though. Either way, in a month much more should be revealed.
I'm still worried were going to lose the whole area feeling, rather then just gain more individuality through landmarks and alterations.
But looks very interesting from what I could see.
I hope they do add these with the rest of the info on lodestone
Hope they upload these pics ASAP!
If they could JUST open it up enough that it resembles Jugner in a way and the forests of San d'Oria closer to Ul'dah. Close knit trees but the ability to walk through them. Thin in some areas, packed and hard to go around in others.
The images look to mark the layout of where the new landmarks are. And I see 4 in one zone now? O: I wonder if that's Mor dhona? And if that includes the keeper as well. Ahhh I'm excited. I wouldn't mind losing a bit of map space if it meant we're getting more diverse areas of the same map, and that in newer expansions we'll get even better ones based around the same concept.
maybe when the empire attacks the shroud the elementals alter the forest defensively.... maybe trapping some imperials in the forest.
