So... I'm about to hit level 60 fisher and I want to know how important it is to get the HQ end game gear with melds when farming red scripts as well fishes to sell. I'm talking about these items:
- Birch Fishing Rod
- Serpentskin Bush Hat
- Serpentskin Vest
- Serpentskin Gloves
- Serpentskin Belt of Gathering
- Chimerical Felt Trousers
- Serpentskin Fringe Boots
- Dragonskin Choker
- Hardsilver Earrings of Gathering
- Dragonskin Wristband
- Dragonskin Ring
Given that the red script gear is better than the above equipment, is it worth the buy? How hard is it to endure the grind without these equipment?
Just a follow up question, it might have been different a couple of weeks ago, but it seems like a waste to spend my blue scripts on the Trailblazer gear... true? I'm level 57 atm.

If u have the money for serpertskin go for it as u will get better stats, but else traiblazer is a good option.

It's 9 weeks for the full set. I don't have fishing leveled but I've spent a lot of time on Botanist since 3.0 and was reluctant to spend the money of full HQ Serpentskin and HQ tools at first. Eventually I got fed up with how slow my scrip collectibles were coming in so I forked out the money. I immediately wished I had done it as soon as I hit 60. It's a huge difference that will make your scrip turn-ins faster and less frustrating. Considering the time it will take to get red scrip gear, there's no reason to not do it unless you absolutely can't afford it. Again, this is from botany experience but I'd imagine this holds true for fishing as well.

Left side gear helps a lot.
It's quite easy to meld it to max gathering/perception for most pieces too, and you can avoid grade IV materia for pretty much everything, except head and body.
Right side gear (accessories), not so much.
I still use my old dodore stuff for MIN/BTN/FIS and there's nothing I can't gather.
Main hand is a must. -

We need an actual separate (functional) tackle box. I have over a page of bait. :( I know I don't need to carry that many different options this late in the game but I'm still filling out my log so it's nice to be able to just catch a window on the fly.

I would calculate the stats you would need for Miner and Botanist red scrip legendary nodes. 650/645perc I think that is the bare minimum. Unless your only fishing then I don't know the stats. That is the kind of melds you will want, and 600 gp.

There's no valid reason why the lvl60 quest shouldn't give a tackle box offhand with no statistics but the ability to store bait. It could be the ONLY tackle box in the whole game and be repurchased from the Calamity Salvager should you 'lose' it.Quote:

Honestly, i dont see the problem being that hard. it can be a universal thing. when you unlock fisher it could unlock this new feature like how armory gear sets get unlocked for classes. you just add a new tab after or before key items and boom (or a tab under inventory that just says tacklebox). the tab can just have the icons of EVERY lure with a counter on them to represent the quantity you have in the box, you know... kinda like when you attach a lure to your line...
