I'm wondering if that was the preview, and these Esoteric weapons are the prerequisite step.
@OP No previews yet. Maybe they'll show them off on that "14 hour stream" they're doing to celebrate the 2 year anniversary.
I doubt it. The upgrade items for the Eso gear is obtained in Alex savage isn't it? If they follow the same ideology as with the 2.0 relics it will be "Grind until your eyes bleed, but don't need to raid"
They did say they would be showing off a preview of 3.1 at the anniversary event, probably during the Live Letter. I imagine we will likely see something then.
Since I heard that DRK is slightly inspired by the Manga/Anime Berserk, I hope the AF will be Berserk inspired.
One can dream.
But seeing what Yoshi-P has done in 3.0, zerging S/A rank hunts will most likely be the best way to complete your Relic in 3.1...
The Esoteric weapons can only be equipped by jobs; something that was unique to Relic weapons. I am led to believe that the Esoterics will be upgraded to Relics in 3.1. The antique versions can be considered as the unfinished X relic and the upgraded being more polished up like regular X relic.
You're not understanding what he said.
The Poetic WEAPON could be equipped by Pugilist/Monk, or Gladiator/Paladin.
The RELIC weapon could onyl be equipped by MONK, or PALADIN. You couldnt' take your job crystal off while wearing them.
He wasn't suggesting (At least I don't think he was) that Monk could wear Paladin and Paladin could wear monk.
Before being sassy, please think about the difference c:

I'll even challenge you to go one step further.
Curtana (i80) - PLD RELIC
Onikiri (i170) - GLA, PLD
Antiquated Hauteclair (200) - PLD RELIC
This is actually why I think these weapons ARE our relic weapons. Now, weather or not they plan to have THESE relic weapons undergo a change, or if perhaps there will be an alternative, is another story entirely.
Not sure if you're trolling or what. The below poster already made the point and you started coming back with wildly incorrect snide jabs as if you'd disproven something. The old relics were the only weapons that could be equipped by a job but not the base class. The new eso weapons are the same which suggests they may be the new relics.
This does indeed seem to be likely. It's worth noting that the upgrade NPC has all of the esoterics weapons listed under 'Artifact Armor' as well which again suggests they're more significant than normal tomestone weapons.
Also the fact that most of these weapons are named after ultimate weapons from past FF games. Seraph Cane for example.
These weapons also look very jobish compared to Alexander or Yasha gear.
Since there's no crafted gear equivalent for the melding stage, it may require the upgraded weapon at some point as the base. They could feasibly add Gobdip as an exchange for 6 "unstained mark logs" for Centurio Seals like they did with the soldiery weapons.
I also wonder if they will add esoterics to HW dungeons? I mean Satasasha and Snowcloak were High Level, not Expert, yet they gave 30 Poetics. Additionally, high level roulette gave poetics too no? Wonder why HL roulette doesn't give any. Unless law is equivalent to mythology, and esoterics are equivalent to soldiery and they'll add super high level tomes in 3.X
Hmm, are the Eso weapons and relic weapons the only ones ever able to be equipped by jobs only?
I also wonder if any of it has to do with the fact that the 3 new jobs do not have classes.
I have my doubts that the esoteric weapons would be tied to the new relic, but I'd be happy if if was.
Yes, though 1.0 had the Garlean weapons as class only. But that's beside the point. Given that the esoteric weapons are Job specific, like only the Relics before, it does stand to reason that they are the Mythics. That said, they also seem to be making the same mistakes as the Relics before, with only certain Jobs having stats genuinely useful to their Job. Take the Berinbau (or however you spell it), it's like the Artemis all over again in that... the stats are garbage and you're better off with any other bow than it.
The amount of detail that went into esoteric gear makes them look very unique that they pop out, much more so than soldiery/IW gear or Law gear. I could see these being the " unfinished relic". There was a Brionac placed between two Gae Bolgs on Thordan's sarcophagus during the story, which may be a hint that it's no ordinary or moderately valuable spear, but something legendary.
