Dev. Request: Campfire Minion

Last night, my fellow adventurer and I were chasing quests in Coerthas West Highlands. After some time traversing the windswept snowy wasteland, we sheltered behind a ruined parapet to smoke some cured Fragrant Greens. While we crouched out of the wind and snow, I summoned my little sun minion for light and heat.

My adventuring fellow, Maryjane Greenly from Balmung, immediately suggested that it would be really wonderful if we could have a campfire minion. It would be stationary like the little sun, and you could stoke (/poke) the flames to make them higher or lower depending on conditions.

Such a minion would be of great use for adventurers in all seasons and lands! Do you think that the gods that be might devise one for us?

I like this idea. I would love to see it added in-game.

You went behind the rock to smoke some greens with Maryjane Greenly huh? Did this make anyone else chuckle lol.

Actually, it was just a smoke break, but we like to rp stuff like that for giggles. Eorzea doesn't have tobacco, so "Fragrant Greens" is a nice double entendre. ^^

...or at least an item that looks like a campfire that can allow you to change jobs outside of sanctuaries without suffering a cd penalty. I love the idea of a campfire or bonfire of sorts and as you can tell by my name I almost require it.

Brilliant idea, maybe it could add some kind of emote if you /sit next to it. (like character holding their hands above it to get warmer)

A Plush Cushion like minion? Sign me up. I just hope it doesn't end up an X Million gil to get minion.

I even have a good name for it: Portable Campfire.

Could be like a level 1 carpentry recipe that can use any kind of wood.
I mean what self-respecting adventurer wouldn't know how to make a campfire?

Hell, maybe mining could give the carpenter some metals to make a different minion with different colored flames!

I love this idea! Please make it happen.

I was thinking more that it would be a fetch quest reward, like the little sun.

WoW, *ducks*, had a fire that even gave you a cute immersion buff. Would be pretty cool, posted desire for a camp and fire a while ago too- it feels pretty FF to have a setup able respite where people talk (fairly rpg in general but in FF it was a reoccurring item lol).

Definitely should build some interactions with it too :D.

That's an interesting idea. It'd need to have SOME kind of drawback to it, though, like you can only use it to change jobs every half hour, or something. Otherwise, why not just allow players to change without penalty in general? I'd be nice to have something like this, for example, when you're gathering or something and a desirable FATE or Hunt monster appears. Depending on the situation, by the time your GCD resets you might have missed your opportunity; ditto with teleporting to the local Aethercite to change. Or you join a Hunt party for a soon-to-be-slaughtered S-rank, only to notice that everyone else is a DPS or tank; you could change to healer, but dem cooldowns...

LotRO has (easily) craftable campfire kits that can be used to make campfires. Standing near a campfire enables certain cooking recipes that need one, increases the rate at which morale and power (HP & MP equivalents) recover, and wards off the effects of cold in regions where that's an issue. But it seems to mostly be used for RP, as who wouldn't like to gather around a campfire with their friends.

Having some sort of buff isn't bad, but I'm not sure that one quite fits. Making a campfire is for situations where you have time to sit around the campfire for a while. But in that case, you wouldn't be bothered by the skill cooldown. Stopping to make a campfire because you're in a rush to run off to some FATE or Hunt or whatever just doesn't seem to fit.

Having a campfire around all the time would be really convenient. You could make delicious s'mores any time you want!

I'd like it a step further to have it an actual item that you craft, say a small (just a fire), medium (fancy fire and a cookpot) and large (nice fire and a tent) style fire pit, and have it take a slot in the party, like a chocobo, but place it like a turret. Then have it give a scaling buff, like exp+food effect+refresh, 2%, 5%, and 10% or something. I hope it would be more than just a minion, I love the thought of setting up and actual tent to go out and do leves for a night in the frozen wilds of Western Coerthas!

I'm grateful for the response but after reading about the GC restrictuons in this thread I'm just sad :( no need to be rude at all to anyone of course but man I'd love to see a response at least :(

Something akin to a campfire / Tent like item has been requested since version 1, so I put it up there as something long sought for..

This would honestly be really cool.

I'm sure that if we bring more elixirs he will hand over more minions /nod

just wait this minion will be crafted by 4 lvl 60 crafters with 58 thaverian silks :P and it will be on the market for 50 million gil

The most amusing part is it's a mod team necropost. But I'd love to see a campfire minion, it would rock being able to set your own bonfire on the beach or cuddle close on the frozen ship in CWH...

Definitely count me in for supporting this. Would be a really nice touch.

I like it, we could roast some marshmallows and sing campfire songs as well ;)

It would be so much better if it has a randomized cooking on it too....

So when you summon it, it'll come with a randomized cooking

Like a coffee pot, stew pot, marshmallows, roasting rabbit.

Said minion would make RP so much more... I don't know....
