I don't get it.....they usually have better gear than the weapons it drops.
And why can't I set the Journal to not display it on my HUD all the time without abandoning it entirely?

Because many people are awful at their Jobs, and unfortunately SE is not working on anything such as a personal parser to check. If you call them out, you can get reported and temporarily banned apparently.
Depends on how you go about it. A lot of players are pretty immature if they don't get what they want within a certain time frame. That frustration tends to carry over in their speech hence "Attitude." If you are tactful, the odds are great enough where you won't get banned.
The same way a 60 bard can refuse to use WM and pull about 350 dps.
Probably to do with the fact they're not really tested by any of the MSQ hard enough. Some bits and pieces can come close (nidhogg.. i guess?) but are easily carried by others. DPS are usually the class picked by those wanting to avoid responsibility and around now's the time they have to wake up. This reminds me of conflagration fail in T5 w/ echo.
I'm more surprised by the fact that all the Bismark EX gear is generally useless. You'll probably have i180 weapons before you even try the fight. It's too bad they didn't make it drop i190 rings instead.
It'll get nerfed to allow the people who have no idea how to play a dps job correctly win most likely. If you've ever run this fight or any expert dungeon as a parser you'll see some dps 300-400 lower than others. That is quite sad.
Have you done expert roulette yet?
I can't tell you how many black mages I met that refuse to use their tier IV spells. I cringe every time.
DPS get lazy. Yesterday, I joined a bis ex clear party / I don't need it, but I wanted to help out/, and they broke the shell on the whales back on the first 2 wipes, but on the third, fourth, fifth, AND sixth wipe they kept reducing their dps and we ended up wiping right on the beginning. On the eight and ninth attempt, we got to the last phase AND they could NOT kill the whale EVEN with LB3. It was hilarious when I joined cuz they kept complaining how their previous TANKS did a pathetic job. They were telling me that they hope this time the tanks would tank properly =p. I was there watching how some dps died, fell off the island, and how they didn't activate the harpoon one time =x. I wonder how BAD their tanks were.
Like most dps checks, when high level equipment becomes easier to get (plus echo bonus), BisEX will be easy to beat. Nowadays, gear alone isn't enough and players must know their rotations and use your skills wisely.
BisEx fight also requires coordination, especially snake phase. I see a lot of people hit by the tornadoes (and lose precious dps) and attacking the wrong snake...
More or less, this is what I think is the root cause. When I first started the game, I went DPS specifically to avoid responsibility. I had a very rude awakening when I was asked to silence ADS in T1, and I didn't even know how my silence move worked. Everything is a team effort in FFXIV; carries are always possible, but the game is designed with the intention that everyone, DPS included, will carry their weight. Once you pass four-man parties, the game becomes more demanding. That's when people that want a more casual challenge/adventure begin to hit a wall, and tiny errors become big problems if not addressed respectfully.
Because consider this, Remember Garuda EX at minimum iLv? And now we're iLv170 at 60? Remove the 1 from 170. Now Imagine doing garuda EX with i70, there's your answer.
Oh dont you know??? It's bc they dont run a parser guys!!! /endsarcasm
If only they added JOB specific daily quest with tight DPS checks that reward you with some nice gear/accessories then things might change.
Sad truth is that most of the people that play this game are absolutely awful at it.
BEX will just serve as the new GEX. There will be a wall of people who can't clear it that build up there, so you will have a much greater chance of getting a fail party. This will remain true until gear is high enough to meet the checks for them. Some people simple can't or won't learn.
i have been with a dragoon there who only do the full thrust combo only and many other players who really dont know how to play their jobs at lv60.....
does this game really need a job tutorial?
I really feel like a loose wheel in DPS checks in general as BLM because of cast time.. I got the damage, just gotta wait for it :<
sometimes it feels like its impossible to communicate with some people , wich makes it even harder :S
I've seen ninjas only ever using their combo actions from the flank! so no positional and not using dots or mudras either.
Especially for foreigner like me who landed in JP server. What I do until now (Bismarck EX, A1-A4) is:
- If Tank HP full -> DoT + Some Broil
- If Tank HP below 80% -> Adlo + Physick
- If Party HP below 90% -> Succor / Indomitability
- Avoid enemy attack ASAP
Sometimes I kinda clueless with some of raid / primal method even I cleared it by myself.
Because people are bad. Honestly that shouldn't come as a surprise, the average skill level of this game is pretty low.
I beat that trial my first time in with most of my group (friends) being around item level 160. I'm lucky to have so many friends that know what they're doing, I guess.
As a healer i learned how to technically solo heal most of the fight and solo both DKs & field generator. I do allllll of that ( even during weather phase ) so that dps can just do 2 things.
- pay attention to mechanics
- press buttons to execute decent dps.
But nope they usually fail one of those and often most will fail both during the weather phase.
Here i am dpsing, healing and doing the mechanics. But here u r struggling to do 1 thing?
"But its hard to pull out good dps while doing mechanics" sure thats true but honestly mechanics aren't really anything new. Its just DDR still lol.
Also im still am a firm believer in
"If they r new its understandable"
But if ur in a clear party pulling tht kind of dps then imo ur just bad wanting to get carried.

Because some people suck at their jobs.
I've only done bismarck ex once, I thought it was so boring so i never wanted to do it again.
But we had no problems at all, we wiped twice because it was my first time and I shouldn't have used bane just as bubbles popped and we got lightning weather. And the 2nd time shadowflare made us wipe because once again, the bubbles died (Dear SE please dont make fights where we cant kill stuff, Summoners get very sad when we manually have to dot everything :c)
But i didn't even notice where the dps checks were, we just killed stuff and killed the back thingy and done. It felt more like a guildhest than an ex primal
They'll badger their ls to carry them after chanting "if only i had a competent group" for weeks on end; followed by leading PF farms with onestrike rules. Which flop.
I'm more likely to assist people who show humility and say that they make mistakes and are honest on progression, people who rave on about how terrible how everyone not-them are completely kills my motivation. I'm not convinced.
you are always awfully playing because there is awlays someone playing better then you and always someone telling you how bad you are and how you little so know of your class, even if you think you are a Master at it.
Keep this in mind before going about pointing fingers, that is why there is a group to compensate the weakness of others, sometimes is your weakness that is compensated and sometimes you have to do that..
Just me though...I am always careful before pointing fingers at others and calling them bad.

Yesterday I joined a Ex Bismarck Party for newbies as WHM. During the first phase we wiped. I was told by someone that my DPS was higher than 2 of the other DPS, when we reached second phase we wiped because we didn't have enough DPS... Sometimes I don't know what are DPS classes doing. Our WAR was the second with highest DPS.
Dps is more skill based in this game than tanking/healing, something opposite of most other mmos. Getting 7-800 dps is the bare minimum a 175~ dps should be doing, and yet, most in bis or alex parse 4-500. This is just a lack of understanding how mmo dps rotations work. Most people don't spend their time outside of a game reading, researching, watching vids, theorycrafting, and most people also don't even know what a training dummy is for in game. It'd be great if they put in a required quest, a la wow proving grounds, where a dps must get ~600 on a dummy before they can queue for alex or ex, but 75% of the playerbase would quit. They are that bad.
And anyone with an ounce of sense will try to learn from them to self improve instead of ignoring them or outright insulting them which happens too much as so many bad players either don't care or their ego is so fragile/big they are blinded by it.
Theres a difference in someone being just under and it being easily covered by the rest to get the clear. No-one is really complaining about that. It's when DPS is so low that content is impossible to clear and then the DPS have the audacity to turn around and blame everyone else, even when they were playing badly. AKA not able to meet DPS checks even when over geared and unable to handle mechanics, dodge any AE because they are tunnel visioned doing their one button mashing. Or the tank cant be bothered to pop a cooldown when a tank buster is coming with not enough HP to survive it without a cooldown that they either wasted on something trivial, or just dont care about using it then turning around and blaming the healer.
But honest question, why do you care when you obviously don't play the game. Your gear hasnt changed in at least a year and your last achievement was 04/02/2014 Character achievement "Leaving a Good Impression III" earned!
