While that would be really cool, you also have to remember that people play this game on very low-end systems. It'd have to be able to load each and every possible option many times over due to having a variance of players coming in and out of view.
I would be all for more options in the character creator, but perhaps not at the sacrifice of being able to play smoothly.
Additionally this creates all sorts of issues with clipping... etc. While i would love to see a more slider heavy customization process, it does recquire significant coding to deal with all the nuances of the sizes and shapes.
If we can't have per part sliders, bust/waist/hip templates to choose from would be nice, then SE could 'control' the amount of stretching and distortion
PS3 limitation.
"But muh PS3"
You're going to get a lot of this ^
I don't expect sliders if they did more with customization, but at least give us more hair and face options ( and not lock horns to Au Ra faces ), perhaps even chest sizes. I for one wouldn't mind being completely flat.
To be honest, I would love is SE made separate versions of the CC for PC/Steam players and PS4 players or something. They're already "separate" in the fact that you have to buy another version if you want to play on the PS3 and the PC, and the PC/Steam copies has the ability to go DX11. Maybe make it so the PS3 version simplifies everything to the current CC options if that'd be possible (Kinda like a reverse DX11 or something.)
I don't think its PS3 limitation because characters are player side and the PS3 can handle to character creations system in Saints Row IV they would have to scale down the graphics and textures.
DragonFlyy has the right of it. I used to be on PS3, and its memory limitations gave me pop-in textures on characters while in parties and ommitted most people from my screen entirely. To put it simply, I don't think the PS3 would be able to handle it.
That being said, I'm all for more customization options, especially the horn/scale options on the Au Ra.
While the PS4 is a step up it's not as great as they [Sony] want you to think it is. It's basically a (below) budget PC. It seems most from Japan play console, and I'd wager most on PS3 so this mythical end of life for PS3 isn't going to happen, at least not for a long time. There's also those PCs, in particular laptops too.
As some have said, sliders cause issues with clipping etc. and we already have that to small degrees. They can increase customisation with new hair styles, more makeup options and possibly new faces too. All these would not effect armor.
The devs have spoken to this issue and why they are hesitant to add more customization options to character creation and while platform limitations (ps3,ps4, etc.) may play a part in it, their main reason is character data size and having to transfer that across the internet. The larger the amount of data points that make up a character, the more data has to be transfered between the client (your computer) and the server and the more data that has to be transfered the longer all of that will take which then results in worse performance of the game no matter the platform.
More options can be added to the existing points of customization such as new hairstyles, eyeshapes, etc. , but not so much with completely new forms of customization such as hip width sliders or what have you.
The "core systems" worry me more than PS3 limitations.
We know what the ps3 can (not) handle but "core system?" at the very least it might have been designed/constructed with the PS3 in mind.
This. I don't really expect SE to go full-on slider-style customization (though at the very least they should give everyone muscle sliders...). But I do want to see far more preset options, on all customization levels.
Character creation is one of this game's weakest points. :/ They'd do well to improve it.
While I'm okay with just more preset options, this is a really silly excuse. SE seems to have so much trouble with things that don't bother any other mmo...
I don't think its ps3 limitations or hardware limitations I think its how the developers coded the Character Customization points. Adding sliders is not increasing the texutres on the character its just changing the skeleton so we can take individual parts of the character model and manipulate it. I'm sure modders can design a mod for the game that would add sliders if it were alowed.
depends on the limits to the sliders. vindictus did this one pretty well.
(tbh if 3rd party modders could figure out a fast method to link your gear and in game model to a body shape change function for skyrim, i'm sure a bunch of well-payed devs at SE could figure it out.)
Love these types of comments :D. Please don't give false information and give square more of a reason not to upgrade it. It will not cause any lag whatsoever, if the textures were 1-2k resolution yeah maybe we'd lose a little bit of FPS but these textures are only 512-512 or less. Nobody here is running a Pentium 4 with windows 98..which is the only system something like this would have an effect on.
There are mods, apparently, that specifically let you change the current values of several things way past what's already possible, but of course it's only clientside and therefore only visible to you.
As an example of this http://40.media.tumblr.com/b9790ff76...38vo1_1280.png someone using one of these said mods to make their character massive in height. I've seen the same person make their model big enough to the point where their knee while sitting down when to like Gridania to the middle of Central Shroud. As a side note, the source where I got that image (Soooo not linking it) also has a person editing the value for their chest to make them massive (to an almost hilarious level tbh).
How has this thread gone for 3 pages without the obvious? O.o
WE NEED BUTT SLIDERS!
i want more tattoos. there is an option for tattoos, but it's almost nothing there... :O
If we can't have more essential things, like storage space, due to technical limitation, why do you think we can have this amount of character customization?
The amount of data that needs to be stored and backups as well... Not to mention the loading times for slower internet would be increased and the amount of work to put into molding gear into each body type.... Imagine if you're a fat Hyur or a very busty Female Roe, the stretch of clothes on your gear would be noticeable and they have to fix that....
If I want a more detailed character customization, I just want the feature to customize my face. The eyebrows, my eyes, my hair, my nose, my mouth and jawlines... that sort of thing. It will not impact gear but still offer customization. If I get a penny for every time I see a twin face such as me, I would get about three fiddy.
tl;dr Don't give body customization. Give face customization.
something like this?

I want this to happen, but aslong as they dont fix the server memory issues, I know for sure, we are not going to see these options.
I don't see why they have to be in conflict. Especially considering something along with the clan option (like a "pick body shape") could solve the issue of body customization to a degree. Plus I'm sure loads of players would over look stretching and clipping if it overall meant more customization. Just push SE for more customization in general, if they can solve the apparent problem with server data, I'm sure they can do both face and body customization.
Like.. you say the whole if I had a penny thing, but let's be honest if you had a penny for every Hyur that had the exact same body shape as you, you'd have a lot more money >_>
I really hope SE is investing in better servers and spends some heavy time trying to rework character data to allow more storage considering the issues with storage space (though that ordeal is a little complicated considering we can buy 6 more >_>) and the whole character appearance data ordeal.
Oh it's one of these threads again... Unless SE reworks this game (again..), they can't add anything and I'm sure as hell never heard of a Dev team removing customization to add more.
It doesn't take reworking literally everything in the game away to rework character creation to allow more variety. And I'm not sure if anyone's talked about removing things to add other things in this thread, though it's been a bit over 12 hours since I've read the thread.
