Questions about parsers

So as a ps4 player I have no experience with parsers whatsoever.

I hadn\\'t even really cared about how much damage I was outputting as long as things were dying. Anyway I\\'m a 183 Ninja main and after my friend with a parser told me my dps was lower than it could be (about 670 in fractal) I practiced optimizing my rotations and buffs and after parsing again about 5 days later I\\'m getting much better damage output. My question is this though: on Faust I was told I at some point I was doing about 1.1k dmg which seemed really good but then during the oppressor I was hovering around 770 even though I was going ham on the oppressor and also handling adds but apparently was still top DPS. So can anyone explain to me how the two numbers are so drastically different? I\\'ve seem people posting about hitting 1k-1.2k dps and PF groups that say 1.2k dps required for A1 savage so I\\'m just trying to figure out how this all works. Sorry if this is a really ignorant question but as I said before as a ps4 player I have no parser experience

It all depends on the parser settings. If it considers downtime as zero DPS, then your DPS will be way lower on the Oppressors, since they fly up in the air and you can't DPS. Also, depending on the jobs, there's AoE to be considered too.
If you're handling adds, depending on how much you have to move without DPSing, the numbers will be lower too.

For example, here's from my raid group in Faust (A1 Savage). The first shows the general DPS, the second is the DPS on Faust alone.

My DPS as a BRD is higher on the first because of my Flaming Arrow hitting the adds. (Also the SMN has ~1.63k DPS, but only ~1.08k on Faust)

Because of that, always try to compare instead of taking only the numbers into consideration. Without proper context they can mean nothing.
If you're top DPS in a fight, it's generally a good sign, despite the numbers. Try asking other Ninjas, running with them.

Also, parsing in a striking dummy is a good way to have a "standard" to compare.

Basically it's because the fights are drastically different. Faust basically represents your sustained DPS in a dummy fight, because he has no mechanics for the DPS to worry about. You stab him repeatedly until he falls over, with no downtime at all from pull to kill. Compare that to Oppressor. If you're handling adds, there's going to be movement time where you aren't hitting things while pulling the adds away, running back to boss after killing adds, or both. Then there's the jumps, which are 15+ seconds or so where you aren't attacking. Then there's the fact that almost regardless of composition you're going to have to supply the Dancing Edge debuff, and that you have to use it as a higher proportion than you normally would because adds and jumps screw with timings. And I'm pretty sure they don't take damage from dots while jumping, so that's even more damage you lose…

I know the answer to this but I just wanna be sure, there's no way to parse from a ps4 right? I hate having to bother an FC mate everytime I wanna run a test.

Correct, you can only do it from a PC. This is why SE needs to finally make add-in support official and fully supported, or at least put something in game to measure DPS so PS4 players who really -do- want to be good at their jobs have a chance to study themselves, and improve themselves.

Parsing is also against the rules unfortunately. I don't know why it's fine to talk about on the forums but not in game. It's a really essential tool. I don't jnderstand their reasoning

Because even though the use of third party tools is technically against the ToS, SE stated multiple times that they won't penalize players for parsing as long as they don't harass players for their dps numbers. So basically it's okay to even talk about it in game, we do that in our fc all day, especially now with new progression content. But "uhh bruh your deepz is too low *initiates kickvote*" is bad bad bad lol and will lead to a ban eventually. ^^

I saw a guy on reddit who was approached by a GM because a player reported him for third party tools because the guy posted DPS in chat.

Guy had a warning against his account for something jn Ct an the place him on a 72 hour suspension for account review.

I don't think it's even safe to discuss numbers in game. Let alone harassment.

That is a different story. If you're in a df (or even pf) group and without asking for permission in advance just spouting out other players numbers publicly so everyone can see them, yeah, that guy deserved the 72h ban. But it would be the same if you post a random df parse in the forums without blackening names and one of the players reports you. If se had a problem with using third party tools in every case, they would have to ban all world 1st/2nd/3rd whatever progression groups because it's obvious they are parsing in their kill videos. But se doesn't do that, they congratulate them and link the kill video on their twitter. ^^

Even on the official forums you have to be careful. Don't link to parser websites or name them, for example (Yeah it flies under the radar sometimes but you know...).
