Feeling lonely in a big FC and getting Burnt Out

Today I feel "meh".

I bought ARR when it first came out and the hype was real but quit after a few weeks because most of the classes felt the same. After hearing that the new expansion was coming out and a few friends have max level characters I decided to pick it up again. So a month later I get from 1-60 and it's a solo endeavor. The one friend hasn't even got to 51 and his sub has lapsed and the other friend has just got AST to 60 but spent the first few weeks leveling miner. Neither are online often and I haven't ran a single thing with them.

Now my FC is rather large, and apparently the third largest on the server(or so I hear) but people don't really seem to do anything together unless it's end game(which I get). I don't really have an interest in doing end game past a few EX clears and normal Alex. I'm a filthy casual I suppose. But for it size I feel like I'm playing this game solo. None of my other friends are online when I get off work since I do early mornings and go to bed before they even get home.

There's still so much I want to get into such as Triple Triad, Chocobo Racing, MNK, DRG, NIN, PLD, WAR, BRD, buying a house, etc. But then I think about having to grind out a profession, and the fact that I can't afford a house IF there even was a house available. Being poor is a barrier to entry and leveling a craft feels like a chore. Does this make me lazy or is that content only for a select few to truly enjoy? And leveling a DPS seems like a chore as well when queue time are awful and doing the same leve or fates over and over again is another tedious grind.

I'm complaining about grinding in an mmo which seems redundant but I just wish there was more variety in the grind. We have different ways to level but each is repetitive in of itself.

I haven't played that long and I'm already feeling like "Why bother". Is there a remedy for this? Should I just stick it out and grind? Should I find a more personal FC? What do you guys do when you get kind of burnt out and just stop seeing the point?

Because BIG FCs tend to have several cliques in them. You're going to feel lonely in them, because you are alone in them.

And as some encouragement for leveling other jobs, I'm lvl50 on WAR which is going to be my second 60 job. And only took 5 days.

If you like playing with others, I suggest trying to find a smaller FC before you outright quit. Big FCs can be intimidating... and, ironically, harder to find like-minded people in. So I think you should shop around for a new FC.

I purposely played my first month in the game solo, only after I felt comfortable did I join an FC and make some good friends. Sometimes I still do things solo even though I'm asked to party up (not because I hate my friends...sometimes I just need some time away from others).

Yeah because this game isn't much different from 2.0. Inb4 I get sent to the stake but the only thing they offered new to us were jobs that's kinda meh, and a race and flying.
Nothing else. I'm mix and matching FATE to dungeons and I get bored mighty fast. FATE train is easy in Churning Mist's but I'm so tired of doing FATE's. :/ I wish we had more dungeons.

For FC's. The best ones are small close-knit ones. The huge ones suck. Most have clique's and you're easily overlooked in chat...and sometimes when it's quiet, you're still ignored.

As for remedy. Nope, I can't think of anything. If you get tired of playing, you should save your sub money and do other stuff.
When I'm bored of the game, I leave for a while and come back.

I think you should definitely look for a FC with a more personal touch. Playing an MMO alone is certainly doable, but there's a lot more fun in doing things with other people. I ran Sohm Al for the first time last night and we spent about half our time in various places taking screen shots and just looking around. We suffered several wipes on the final boss, but everyone was having fun, and losing didn't break our spirit.

If you're feeling burnt out, step back a bit and think about what you enjoy in game. Go do that. Don't think about what gets you the most loot or experience. Think about the fun, and whatever loot you get will be grind free. There's bound to be other players in the same situation that you were in. Seek them out and give them the help you wanted to have had. It would be more fun for both of you, and when the newer player catches up with you, you can tackle new things together. Maybe make your own FC and work together to build that house. Ishgard will have a housing district open up eventually and there will be a great chance to seize some prime property.

Whatever form your journey in Eorzea takes, it should be one that's fun for you. Don't forget to have fun!

The issue is that SE made everything so damn easy so you can get to lvl 1-60 without ever joining a group. There are no hard quests where you need to group up with a friend to finish. There are lots of SOLO trials, which you can't do in a group. Whoever came up with that idea should be kicked :@
So annoying when you do main quest with your friend and then suddenly you need to leave your party to do a solo trial. I think its time they stop catering to people without friends and make the game more fun with friends. Then people would try to find new friends because they are needed in other ways than just casual conversations.

Also like the others have said, small FC's are great. Mine is usually very chatty and we are tops 4 online at the same time.

I actually have had better experiences in big guilds in games and FCs in here.

Best thing I can suggest though if you aren't having luck in a big FC is to try a medium or small one. Or do what I usually do when I'm tired of FCs/guilds, go without one for a while. Linkshells can help you find talkative people to be friends with too, and being FCless isn't always as unsocial as you might think.

In some MMO I always avoid to join guild that contain so many member. Why? Because you easily ignored by people because you're not "worth" enough to discuss with veteran member and that's what makes me lonely sometimes.

As for the FC, start your own. Seriously, try it. Get a few friends together (only need 3 to start one) and if you run a lot of stuff in average, getting to rank 8 doesn't take nearly as long as you might imagine. I did this after leaving a mid-size FC. A BLM friend of mine had the idea, so we talked about it, she started it up and it got signed. This was about a month before Heavensward hit. Now we're max everything and have an FC house, airship, and several member private rooms. If the big FC isn't doing it for you, make a small one. Ours has less than 10 members since we just wanted friends who would talk and help each other and avoid drama. It might sound like a pain, but it's very easy to do.

Leveling a dps really does suck though. My advice is to simply go with a friend who has a healer or tank class whenever you wanna do any dps leveling content except for the leveling roulete.

The crafts only feel like a grind if you don't level them smartly. Leve allowances for turn-ins and the Ixal quests make leveling any one craft go pretty fast, but you want to level them ALL at the same time at first, at least until you hit 15. Crafting really is its own mini game (with a sudden miserable sharp difficulty curve at endgame now, hopefully that gets nerfed) and if you level your gatherers too, you can be completely self sufficient even without a lot of money.

As for leveling a DPS, I leveled all the classes to 50 before HW dropped, mostly through daily leveling dungeon roulette. The queues were not so bad and I usually did chores or even exercises while I waited during the longer ones. My goal was always a level a day, nice and slow.

Recently moved server and made a thread in the server forum asking for some linkshells just to chat but no reply whatsoever.

I understand what you're going through completely. Both me and my closest in-game friends were once part of one of the biggest FCs in our server. While no one was particularly rude, there was only a handful of people to really talk to or to regularly do content with. That's the reason why we eventually split and formed a small/medium-sized FC of our own with the said group of friends. While it was a bumpy road at first, I regret nothing about it.

I would recommend for you to "search for your wings" elsewhere. In your own FC, someone elses, or perhaps something in-between with a group of friends? I generally have better experiences with small FCs rather than big ones.

There's likeminded people out there, although they may not be easy ti reach at first.

The more people you put together, the more divided they become. Why I also don't like huge FCs. Don't believe the recruitment blurb either for them.

@OP. I'd recomend looking for a smaller social FC.

A big FC is not really a FC. Just a group of people with their names on a list. Smaller FCs will have more camaraderie.

That's almost as stupid to me as looking to socialize in strict IC only channels or topic locked forums with narrow scopes.

FCs in FFXIV as it currently stands is just a rotation of one or more static groups with 8 players where members get traded between them... Thats game mechanic and needs to be changed.
And about grinding, its working as intended - Square Enix is targeting to force us playing only one class (including crafters).

Lol, no.
They want to focus on getting one class to the very best gear, and your other classes are slightly behind that.
You're never going to get all your Jobs into the very best gear available, crafter of DoW/M.

Learn to not want everything all at once.

There are many reasons to change class, to say its just because wanting all to max is either naive or ignorant.

Big fcs have perks to being in, while smaller fcs do as well. Some people just like to be another face in the crowd, while others like to know they are cared about. (right now my fc is about 65-70players) we are at a good spot. Id say 90% of the players in our FC participate in events, videos, music parodies and other out of game things. 98% are always bouncing about willing to help others and or ask for help. I can only think of a few who keep to themselves, which is fine as well by my standards. I ran a large close to 400 member guild in SWTOR and found it to have its ups and downs . Right now i dont see me taking this fc much over 150 if we reach that size. I really am enjoying where we are at and getting to know each member.
