is blm aoe that bad now?

i kinda enjoy it more than smn but i heard people dont even use fire 2 / flare on blm now.

The 4xFIV at all cost BLMs don't use AoE, but most of them fall into the mediocre/gawdawful dps category.

I still tear up groups of mobs on BLM, the only major change to my rotation since 2.55 is I start with snapchat > Thunder > Thunder III, and just keep cycling my target for each thundercloud proc.

BLM aoe is fantastic. It was just stupidly OP before...

At one time we farmed brayflox longstop hard mode for myth tomes. lets just say the majority of people working on their relics at that time made a quick i90 blm for lolflare.

When u entered df as a tank/healer and u were matched to 2 blms it was like "horay (/dance)".

Those were the days. I used to love when i entered DF as blm and got another blm(unless they spammed f3 and b3 -_-). But hey, when i get a good smn in combination with a good sch? things melt when I go drg(my blm not up there in levels yet).

As for OP, BLM aoe is good. Smn is better at it now though. Do you wanna flare...or do u wanna deathflare? The choice young grasshopper...is yours.

I haven't used my BLM in quite some time, so forgive my lacl of experience with the "new Flare". I feel like it would have been more interesting to lower Flare's base potency and then have it increase in potency based on the number of targets hit. This would have instead lowered it's single target power but potentially amplified it's AoE power.

Perhaps current BLMs can weigh in on how that would effect the job, but the change they made to have it less effective on larger sized groups seems counter-productive.

There is still a class with crazy good AoE but it's now SMN not BLM.

BLM AoE is somewhere in this category:

SMN >> BLM with Foe's = MCH > BRD > BLM without Foe's > everyone else

The best thing to say is, it's "fine," and it really is enough. The probably biggest nerf to it is the impracticality of it when trying to maintain Enochian, and that F2 is barely a DPS increase over F4 on 3 targets while being much more MP inefficient. The other good AoE classes can fit AoE in without much fuss or muss, especially SMN who really only has damage to gain in any AoE situation, short or long lived.

They went a little overboard on some things in the expansion... DRG was the main job for the expansion, so they made them DPS kings. SMN was very under powered in 2.X, and players didn't like them, so they answered by making them a little too good IMO.

It think it will be fixed over time though.

It's not like BLM AoE is bad, it just isn't up to the level it was in 2.X, and maybe SE doesn't want BLM to be the AoE kings anymore, maybe SMN should be that. Single target DPS in fights that isn't like a striking dummy, is what needs fixing for BLM compared to SMN.

It's a little underwhelming in comparison to Summoner's but since the rework might as well let them have something beyond a raise when it comes to having a impact in a fight. All things considered, Blackmage's AOE isn't that bad so long as you're using your OGCDs. A quad or even quintuple flare + double flare star can still melt a group pretty quick.

At least its the funniest thing about blm dawntrail changes. While they killed the alternative transpose lines for single target and doing all these band aid fixes, the best aoe rotation involves "cursed" transpose lines and SE is doing nothing about it. As long as you are not grouped with a picto in a dungeon it feels fine, damage wise.
