A Simple Beginner's Guide to Crafting an HQ Forgemaster's Hammer

Through the magic of splendors, leve quests, consumables, pseudo time-travel, and millions of gil this first step simply requires you to get every Crafting job to 60. And while you're at it take every Gathering job to 60 as well. Well now! That was quick and painless wasn't it? It may have cost you 20 times more to level than it did for me; but we kind of needed all of your leveling mats to cap our Red Scrip again... and again.. and again... don't worry you'll forgive me later little buddy!


Gear Up!

718 Craftsmanship, Infinite Control, 400+ CP, 650 Gathering, 661 Perception, 650-700GP. It's quick, it's easy! Lot's of numbers. So many positive integers!! How could that not make you feel like a million bucks!


Study Up!

Someone wasn't paying attention in Crafting school. Never fear! Through a series of quick and easy synths every Master Book can now be yours! We both know by now that price is no object for you; so go ahead and create a few hundred of your favorite Splendors. NOW trade them for MORE books. And if you are STILL bored try out the new and engaging Blue Gathering Scrip. In 40 - 55 hours of teary-eyed gathering (its from happiness I assure you) you can have a complete set of Folklore books of your very own! NICE! Now we just need a book to tell us what a Folklore is!


The Journey Begins

Now you are finally ready to craft that mighty HQ Forgemaster's Hammer of Epic Sauce! You meet the level, knowledge, and statistical requirements! It was a long road but I heard you whimsically laughing through every minute of it! Don't worry it's all uphill from here! Let's take a quick look at the materials required for our fancy new toy!

3 Adamantite Ingot
- 3 Sun Mica
- 6 Adamantite Nuggets
- 3 Blue Quartz
- 15 Purified Coke

What's this?! Stuck already? You've never ever heard of Purified Coke before? That makes this fun!


Time to Cook!
~~~~~~~~~~~

All you need to make Purified Coke is the right ingredients, a monocle on your left eye, a scientific montage that shows you nothing important, and then a few odds and ends. Now this is a pretty short process so please pay attention:

- First we're going to need 30 Red Ooid's and 30 Wyvern's Warts.
- In order to collect these you're going to want your 45 Gathering Favors.
- In order to obtain 45 you'll need to cap your Red Gathering Scrip to 450.
- In order to cap your Red Gathering Scrip you'll need to spend 4.5 - 10 hours a week Gathering collectables.
- I should also mention it takes 11 hours to use up your 45 Gathering Favors a week.
Don't try to hide that smile on your face. Even I was fist-pumping when I found out I'd get to use my Gathering classes for a glorious 15-25 hours every single week for life.


All done? Excellent work! However, in order to hand-in your 30 Red Ooid's and 30 Wyvern Warts for 15 Purified Coke you also have to provide 3 Red Rowena's Crafting Tokens. It'll only cost 150 Red Crafting Scrip so please cap your Red Crafting Scrip every week as well. A few mil here or there! In for a gil, in for a forever debt I always say.


The Moment of Truth

You've leveled your classes to their ultimate peak of skill and power. You've donned your ultimate gear and penta melded it like a blind tongue surgeon. You've obtained the legendary knowledge of the Master Crafting Gods, gathered your Purified Coke, and are ready to make all of your gil back in one swift atomic curb-stomping synthesis.


Wait, you didn't HQ your Adamantite Ingots? Well... spend a few more weeks until it finally happens. We've got some spare time; just not a whole lot of spare Scrip. Also, I forgot to mention you'll also need an Astral Birch Lumber. It uses 5 Dryad Sap; so you know the deal - go and Gather for another 20 hours, buy some favors, make sure it HQ's, yada yada yada.



The HQ Forgemaster's Hammer (Version: For Real this Time)

Your Blacksmith was waiting it's entire life for this moment. Through a series of memorized actions, billions of indebted gil, and hundreds of beautiful hours you have finally taken your first step towards owning a complete set of gear that you can't really put to any good use yet. The 79% chance you had to HQ your Hammer was pretty sexy I must admit. Anyone would have taken the risk. It's just a shame it NQ'd in the end.


On the bright side this Guide itself could be seen as reward enough for going through all of that effort. Your NQ Hammer has exactly the same stats as your old HQ Adamantite Cross-Pein, so feel free to sell it for a few thousand gil to cut your costs. Simply repeat the last few steps of this guide a couple times and eventually you'll have an HQ Forgemaster's Hammer of your very own!

You should also add to your excellent guide the stage of demimateria farming, our very favorite desynth grind as come back, fieldcraft, battlecraft and the most beloved item by all crafters arround the world, the mastercraft demimateria!
And maybe what is there to expect in the future. Maybe some amazing Mastercraft Demimateria II!

To: Yoshi P and the Dev Team,

As the original post so eloquently highlights:

* Crafting and Gathering in 3.05 is just AWFUL. Yoshi P you specifically said that you were going to make Crafting in 3.0 more accessible and casual.

How is this more casual and open for most players?

It's NOT. AT ALL. :mad:

It's not like Crafting and Gathering makes any kind of "overpowered Best In Slot gear" for End Game or anything (they don't). So in the end it's a ridiculous Time and Gil Sink to try and keep players mindlessly occupied until... 4.0 launches?

Please look at the Disciples of the Land and Hand Forums and see the feedback from so many about this issue.

The bottom line is NOTHING about the Crafting and Gathering update is fun. :( It's just awful and annoying.

How is this supposed to be a good start for Heavensward and 3.0? This just damages the Final Fantasy XIV good work you've been doing up until now.

I hope you change this.

It's casual in the sense that a person with a lot of time can't outclass those without a lot of time. In that sense, yes the red scrip concept succeeded in that objective however the work/reward ratio is currently not balanced in a way that makes it fun. See what they could of done is a few things.

The issue I think comes down to this.

As a gatherer as a crafter you have to perform 45 collectables of gathering or 25 synthesizing for crafting to cap your scrips for that week.

In exchange for those you get the options of

-choosing gear
-choosing mats to synth gear
-Favor for gatherers.

So with gathering you sacrifice your gear up by getting favors 50 scrips give you 5 attempts at 15 mins each and here in lies the first issue, time based aka luck based. The only "luck" should be involved with the node itself not with it appearing, the fact it can vary, the fact it cost a weekly scrip to use is a discouraging feature. Instead the favor itself should be based on amount of nodes rather than time, it shouldn't stress people to speed through it, but rather the option to take their time and use it up. I'd say it be more fair for each Favor to allow 3-5 nodes to appears while gathering.

However the other problem of course lies in the materials and the 5x quantity of the NQ version, each piece of gear seems to follow the same mentlaityof 150 tokens to synth, on top of the 50+ you need from both botanist/miner to use for their favors as well as going to the right locations.

So now you have the following:
150-150-150=450
100-100-100=300

Yes in case of gathering they do have option of having some left over however when they obtain favors they sacrifice their ability to gear up which doesn't seem very fair.

But the overarching issue is this. If I"m not mistaken each synth uses 5x so what you are saying is this. When it comes to red scrip of crafting at 450/50 aka 9 tokens, you are in essence saying ok here you go you can synth 9 times after you spent 25+ synths obtaining the ability to synth these and then only if you manage to HQ can you risk those 9 on another 3 synths. The ratio just isn't a kind one, it should be the other way around, if it takes me 25+ synths to cap my red scrips of crafting then those scrips should offer me the ability to craft 40+ worth of synth from those items, not less. That in is the huge issue with this,it's the fact that the buildup to reach a point of crafting is rewarded by a small margin of attempts to even try what you worked to earn.

I love you, man. Like in the strongest platonic way possible. I read this post to my husband and he said he wanted to kill himself. He's not even the crafter, I am.

That was amazing. Even better, it ACTUALLY has the relevant info for someone to get a grasp on the steps to get to that level of crafting.

With NQ Purified Coke your synths for Adamantite Ingots start at 1915/9430 Quality if the rest of the mats are HQ! Rejoice my friends! Only 7500 Quality to go ♪

Lol, come to Coeurl, you can already buy a HQ ingot on the MB.....for 5mil it seems. Anyways, I like your humor. This should be written as a comic!

Can we get a Dev Team response on this?

It's pretty sad that the team just faces one of the biggest issues / complaints by the crafting / gathering player base with silence.

I just crafted my hammer today. The trick to making this pain-free is to cap your red scrips with Fishing and unlocking your blue scrip stuff with fishing.

ZERO gil investment and no collectible rotation. It took me just a few days to get the mats I needed. I only HQ'ed one Adamantite Ingot, HQ'ed the Astral Lumber. Favor mats were all NQ and the other mats were HQ. I started with 7% HQ progress on the hammer and 100% on my first attempt.

The HQ Hammer is better unmleded, than a fully melded Adamantite Hammer. Gonna work on my GSM tool next, then Weaver, and then the Forgemasters armor set.

I only started working on scrips shortly after they reduced the favors to 5 minutes instead of 15 each.

The trick is to not feel overwhelmed, but to set small goals to accomplish each day. The designed it this way so that people wouldn't be maxed so quickly with nothing left to do.

Not sure if you ever unlocked all the Lucis tools, but that was worse.

but yeah SE is like that , crafting and gathering cant be just something u do for fun , gil or because u need some mats/items , like every other !$!% game .... u need to jump over 3000 fire hoops , with your hands tied and blindfolded.....because thats for sure will make it fun...

and i tho FFXI crafting was bad (losing mats , breaking crystals , 0.1 skill up or no skill up at all after 20 items ~~)

Another fun aspect to this system is that once you do make all this amazing crafter gear for yourself you then get to put it to use making equipment that no DoW or DoM would bother buying. So instead you get to make gear for other crafters working their way up to the top of the same pyramid scheme.

this is why i'm sitting on a stack of red crafter's scrips that will stay unused until i see what happens to the system.

as it is now, it's simply insulting.

yep, just stockpiling scrips until something sane is done with the system - I see zero value in 2* so I'm saving my time and gil. I would like to thank SE for at least allowing us to stockpile tokens instead of forced to spend them like tomestones...
