Why? Are you one of those people who take part in behests that are well out of your rank?
No I hated this feature in FF11, please don't add it.
no, its nothing like that... and I'm definitely not shy. More so I just want to keep that to myself for myself and I dont want to feel like levelings a competition
Don't care about leveling competitions. Just have fun pal!
Sounds like somone wants to hide somthing, like as somone said earlier doing behest at the wrong level.
like i said thats not it... more so to avoid drama in my linkshell. i hardly ever do behests anyway ^^
Ahhh so you dont want to play all your level 50s, and when your linkshell says but you have xxx class, you say yeah but I dont wanna play that class, you can out and out lie saying the classes you wanna play are your only level 50s, only reason you would want it to avoid ls drama.
im not going to unravel the drama onto a thread... and delsus...wrong again. By the way I only have one level 50... not much to choose from.
Never seen much reason behind /anon in XI really, don't see the point here either. Hell at least XI had one reason, if you were a whm and not seeking a party you pretty much had to go anon to avoid raise requests from around the globe.
But as far as people finding out what rank/class you are it's not a massive feat to find out.
Chances are unless your really going out of your way to throw me off, I'm just going to check your weapon and average gear level.
There's absolutely no legitimate reason for one to need to hide their class levels. If you need to hide who you are in your LS to avoid drama, find a new LS.
Just because you can't think of a legitimate reason doesn't mean there isn't one.
No one said anything about hiding from a LS.
I'm unsure why people are being so offensive.. ready to attack I mean, because they do not understand this person.
I once had reason, a very good reason to have my AH info in FFXI hidden. Harassment is a very good reason, for example. :o
I was quite bothered when I discovered FFXIAH and that it was displaying all my buying and selling info to anyone who would look at it. I had to make an account to hide it. I'm glad I had the option, as if prevented some very possible stress.
There are very good reasons to want character info (of all sorts) hidden, and it doesn't mean you're a bad person or some sort of drama starter.
(I love your sig btw.)
I'm not talking about AH info. There can be solid reasons to hide that. Levels though, no reason.
At the moment there's no way for people to see what your retainers are selling by 'looking you up' except through the use of that yg software, which is not condoned by SE.
The OP is asking to have his class levels concealed. I completely disagree and am against SE implementing any feature that would allow players to hide their class levels. It only serves to mislead fellow players.
Also if someone is harassing you for whatever reason, blacklist them.
(Thank you ^^)
I know you weren't talking about the AH, that was my personal example and my bad experience. :3
I did mean that though - he/she may have a good reason for wanting to hide level or something else that you couldn't think of.
If you disagree against hiding it, that's just fine, your opinion and you probably have good reasons. ^^
but again, he/she may actually have a good reason to hide. Just because we can't think of it doesn't mean it isn't possible.
With my AH example.. many people couldn't understand that I had a good reason for wanting to hide it, most just assumed I had bad intentions and were suspicious of me. But the good reasons did exist.
I have nothing really against showing our class and level on the forums, but others might.
One thing that did bother me at first when it was implemented is people attacking and judging others based on their characters highest rank. It's just a silly reason, but a reason one might dislike it. There may be plenty of other valid reasons.
Um...this is an MMO people pride themselves on position and rank and file...it's a challenge of supremacy. If you concerned with what people can see of your character um...why are you playing an MMO...go play solo console.
I highly doubt anyone in this game is going to go around looking people up and then laughing at them because their levels aren't high, or something of that sort. Should that even be an issue, the blacklist feature works quite nicely.
OP states that members of his LS knowing what class levels he has leads to drama. There aren't a large variety of reasons for there to be LS drama over a player's levels. It isn't difficult to guess the scenarios as to why he would want to hide them. None of those scenarios merit the addition of a feature that would allow anyone to hide their levels.
There may be good reasons. Fact of the matter is, there are no reasons good enough to make up for the bad side-effects.
It's to prevent a level of animosity.
And we all know how that can screw things up.
I feel bad that you feel you have to hide who you are (character wise) because your LS causes drama about it... if that is in case the fact. Maybe you need a new LS, not a way to hide your info... you should be proud of every level/rank you get on your character, not feel like drama will happen due to it.
:(
I'm proud to show my rank/level and even if I hit Rank 5 on something my LS congrats me. Thats how it should be, support and such! :)
I would only care to have it IF we get a search (/sea) feature added to the game. As far as now though, meh its fine I suppose.
I just don't like to get random invites if I'm not seeking (this is from XI days) but I'm on a highly sought after job. (it happened a lot too)
Not happening. That's all people need is for you to join a party recruitment and be 1 level under what they were asking only to diminish SP and waste everyone's time.
Why the hell would you want to hide your class level? What possible purpose could that possibly serve?
I would also like the /anon as well.
To prevent random invities, includes pestering certain class, like tanks to join the party.
In FFXI, players go /anon to craft and do some quest and did not want random invites to bother them, remember not replying to a tell is kinda disrespecting, which what FFXI taught me. Going /anon kinda gives you the right to not send a reply, also /away combination is good, but people get suspicious when they see an /away person running/fishing etc.
Sometimes Bard, Tank, Red Mage, gets bothered a lot by mostly amateur players, for party invite, since those jobs were essential or a balanced/Mission/BCNM etc etc party.
In FFXIV this would work only if they implemented the /search function, with custom comment for each players, which they set up. like "doing quest" "exp pt no thx" "be back in 30 mins" "i'm playing solo right now"etc etc
Nice little story from 11 My old friend was in a party and there was /anon in it, so he checked him to see his gear and the guy said "don't examine me" and then left the party. What strange world we live in. :p
P.S you can check my gear anytime
that's like hiding that your a dps healer over a real healer and couldn't be arsed to spend 2gold to change for a dungeon. then lock the hole group for a timer cause we can't beat past first few bosses. yaay. please no implement this so someone can hide a few levels. if you level to slow for your ls then go to a diff one, it already signs that you won't fit in later when game is in full mode. less that is the reason you don't log in, but ls can't kick you right now ...nor i think care that much right now either. so can't be that. if levels are hiden people will start looking at gear and making that the requirement instead and you'll be far more worse off. lol
yeah, that story remind me maybe he wants to wear crappy gear and that 1 level will show he should of maybe been wearing something a little better. but i don't think that is it either. i used to lol when people say don't examine me. i didn't get why, and usually examine him like 10times in row like an arse. sorry for those who have problem with it lol ...i don't get it.
only other reason to hide it i can think of is alchemy50 fisher 50 X8 lmao. ah sales, X10 999stacks shards 24/7
you guys should explains the drama's /em breaks out the popcorns nom nom nom.
This isn't Valkurm Dunes, and you arn't White Mage. > >;;;
If people want to hide their class lvl and other info let them do so idc its their game not yours.
This is kind of silly. I never understood the point of it in XI either.
I dont care if Im in game and you check me out and see my level, i like that....i just dont think its anyones business to be able to look on this site and view my character profile. i would like some privacy
This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter.
And Nabiri, if people are harassing you, that's what the blacklist is for. When it comes to being harassed by people over stuff in game, I have about 1/100th of the patience I do for other stuff. If the person starts being an arse, they get /blocked without a second thought.
blacklist is such an ultimate move though (I RARELY used it in XI because I never knew it down the line that person was doing an event/story/etc that I really wanted to get done). So me personally blacklist is a waste of time (unless its the extreme where you've contacted a GM and etc over it).
Regardless as it stands now, /anon is pointless (literally pointless it has no value to be in the game right now) with a search function it definitely has a purpose, a good thing to point out is the crafting classes (since we'd be able to search for them) in order to sell something in the wards the gear must be @100% durability, which only a crafter can do, say I don't have a craft to a certain level so I do a search for level 40-50 weavers, I'd just go down the list asking for a repair, now that that instance times a hundred (because I'm sure I'm not the only one that will do it).
If you want to craft in piece you will HAVE to have /anon, same goes for combat classes as well, people are going to need healers/tanks more than anything so they will get random invites, /anon will stop that from happening. Maybe it didn't happen a lot for you (hypothetical you) in XI or XYZ MMO but it does happen quite frequently, ask any bards from XI lol.
PlayerA: "hahah you're such a noob your so low level, you must have a life and have no time to play, probably busy with your gf and work, rl sucks lol you loser!"
PlayerB: "Yep, im the loser..."
The only sarcastic harrassment i can think of. The realistic one would be:
PlayerB: "Trust me this skill works you can do this and the mob does that"
PlayerA: "Stfu you dont even have rank 50 x or even a rank 50 at all so your opinion is incorrect".
It happens on the forums all the time "You're too low level to understand the game so you think its good but its not, you will soon find out when your high level".
i personally dont have a reason to be anon, but if others want it, fine by me, i just hope they dont lock it on lodestone, considering i run a website that exposes your levelling rates in the finest detail there is lol
Depending on how it's implemented I think it might do more harm than good.
That's just how I feel though OP, I'm sorry if we disagree.
<sarcasm>Yes, allow me to harm you by not allowing you to see my level.</sarcasm>
You people are absolutely ludicrous. There's no harm either way. If a person wants their information to be private no one should feel the need to question it. There's no reason a player should not be able to keep this information from someone if they so choose. I personally wouldn't hide it and I use the lodestone to look people up all the time but if someone felt they should be able to block this access I'd be all for it.
If they want anon fine. If you dont then don't use it. Personally I like the fact that you can check someone and they dont know you are doing that. In ffxi I only checked someone when I liked what I saw ie nice gear I wonder what its called or how to obtain it. Without bothering them with questions I could look up myself. Also thanks for clearing up something for me about behest. Was wondering why there were lvl 39 mobs on my behest that I was doing at rank 23 lancer at camp horizon lol. Good to know.
If you liked your privacy then you wouldn't post on forums. Moderators can see your IP addresses, they know where you live, they can see your profile even if the forum has it set to private, etc... the point of the Lodestone is to act as a reference for other players. If you want to join a LS they may want proof of your "qualifications" with the Lodestone they can do that. They can see if you have a level 50 class with the important sub classes leveled that you would need abilities from to maximize your effectiveness in battle, they can see if you have completed certain content. They can see how active you are by payign attention to your history entries...
It does more good then harm. If you dont like your information being out there then don't play. As far as /anon in game is concerned, it's pointless. If you don't like being bothered use chatfilters, /blist, ignore people, whatever. Whenever I saw a /anon in FFXI it made me wonder what they were trying to hide (like an underleveled subjob or whatever) /anon is just shady, and I don't trust people who use it or want it.
You do know anyone can search you on lodestone and see everything about your character right?
THIS is what the OP meant he wishes to 'hide' not his 'in game, currently dressed class' but his Lodestone profile.
I'm not sure what his reasons are but this is what he meant, he said so several posts up. I can *maybe* see his point...you can tell how 'active' someone is by reading their lodestone histories. Also, you can see who friends them etc. This is in addition to what classes you have at what ranks and your stats etc.
I can sorta see why someone might not like this... BUT if you never write in your blog, all they can see is basically who you are in game...and really, your linkshell should know that anyway. It's not like it's 'actual' personal information they have access to.
I think the /anon feature would be essential. It wouldn't hurt anyone and I don't see why this poor person is getting heckled suggesting a feature. Besides, it would make sense considering there are some snot heads out there that who mock people that are not at a certain level yet >.>
