Healing Prey - Savage A1

Interested to see in how other healers are dealing with the double prey & consecutive hypercompressed plasma -inconsistent- tank buster attack. Also interested in hearing your healing experience combo.

At the moment we're rolling with WHM/SCH and handling double prey, though I'm really interested in hearing from AST combos;

What we were finding last night is that, because we completely focused on our own target and not prepping with stoneskin and double adlo, we'd have to focus on our target for longer and our tank would not be at a sufficient HP level for busters.

WHM heals first prey, I heal second (just the way we went with position of DPS and healers in the actual room)

The target appears for 6 seconds, which leaves enough time for 2x Stoneskins from WHM and 2 Adlos from a SCH - There should be no other significant damage at this time, other than adds attacking the DPS?

It hits for approximately 3k each missile? - so including adlo and stoneskin on each target, either physic+adlo or 2x cureI or 1xcure II should be enough to get your healing target to safe? They need to already have a pre-existing medica II rolling though correct, to top before the next aoe damage hit?

That way you can prepare for the tank busters safely (adlo + SS on tanks).

We did SS and Adlo's on the prey targets, healed our own targets and was fine with just with small heals. for the thank busters, the tanks stacked two cds, virus on both opressors, e4e.. and that was really it. our war holmgangs the first tank buster and whm bene's. pld is only brought down to half health. Not too hard. but we've not made it to to second tank busters yet... for AST, you have disable to use, SS if you have sch with you, and probably gonna need little more healing. But the problem we ran into with using AST/SCH was we couldn't top off the raid in between raid damage and preys, so they always started off around half health when prey missles went out... trying whm/ast tonight

*edit don't forget you have synastry too as AST for preys

Ah interesting - At the moment we're running DRK/PLD, because of DKs magic defense though I might have to grill them about the CDs they're using.

WHM perspective with SCH co-healing, iL186 no food. WAR/DRK tanking with me on DRK.

As far as I've understood it, the Prey/Hydrothermal Missiles hit for somewhere between 2.5k to 3k damage per attack for a total of six attacks which ends up being between 15k to 18k total. I recall the Oppressor doing the raid-wide AoE while the attack is running as well, so the "total" is probably a bit higher.

The first prey-target gets an Adlo from the SCH and I time a Cure so the player doesn't explode from HM+AoE. Once that lands I heal the tank once with Cure II and then back to the prey-target for a final heal. During this time Medica II is also active. So far we've gotten away with no Stoneskin on people.

For all subsequent Prey/Plasma combos there's no help between us healers. We take one prey-target each and one tank each. I can't say for certain regarding my co-healer since I've yet to review footage. I deal with it as I deal with the first - jumping back and forth between the prey-target and the tank. For the first combo I tend to use Presence of Mind and sometimes Tetragrammaton, relying on mainly Cures as far as I can. For the second set I use Divine Seal and Tetra but with significantly more Cure II. Many times I have to finish with a Cure II in order to get the tank to good levels before the Hypercompressed Plasma hits.

I don't prepare for the prey or the Plasma hit with Stoneskin but I make sure E4E is active. I know the tank (DRK) use one or two defensive cooldowns and our SMN use Virus on my Oppressor while the SCH use Virus on the other one. As always Regen on both tanks and Medica II active for most of the time.

I've gone SCH for our first attempt and I'm probably going to try AST for the next. We've been taking one prey and one tank each with little preparation and it worked out fine, the only time tanks died was when both my WHM partner and I got selected as Prey targets lol.

Not sure how well it's going to line up with all preys so we'll have to adapt but I'm guessing Synastry would be my tool of choice for Prey/Plasma.

I'm having problems trying to figure out how to heal preys while healing my tank. Problem on my part is my tank is dying from auto attacks which is horribly embarrassing. I focus on waiting for 2 missiles then cure 2, cure 2 and that will leave my target fine. Then my tank gets laser and plasma. Leaving him like 2000 health left. Then he gets sneezed on and dies. Any suggestions how other WHM handles this mechanic?

Doctor the only time your tank should really be getting hit is right before splasers go out. the smn should virus the opressor during those laser or right after, you shoudl have him topped off right after splaser, top off your prey target then heal them up through prey while pausing midway to heal your tank then back to prey. Once prey is done burst heal yoru tank up should be no lower than 65% health a quick cure 2 or 2 should be enough before tank buster goes out.

Normally it's simply ideal to have each healer take care of one prey each. Each one hits, as mentioned anywhere from 2.5-3.5k(gotta love getting prey as Healer). I usually have Medica II DS rolling already due to Gunnery Pod. There's two ways to approach is as WHM. Pre-Cast the initial hit with Cure then Cure II from then forward because using Cure for all of Prey will end up with a dead target due to the damage being more than what Cure can put out overall from its spell times. Presence of Mind Cure 1 if you're hurting on MP or trying to reserve it.


The main thing to remember is that you DO NOT need to heal the last hit. After it hits 5 times(or 4) and your DPS was topped, you can go back to your respective tanks for their Tank Busters. Depending on how your tanks are doing things, WAR usually Holmgangs 1 and 3 Tank busters(so you can just leave him alone until he actually hits 1 HP). PLD will normally time Rampart and Sentinel for 1 and 3, HG 2nd Buster(leaves breathing room for Warrior tank on 2nd Tank buster since Holmgang is down). DRK usually can just combo Shadowskin/DA Dark Mind or Shadow Wall/DA Dark Mind. They should only tank about 6-8.5k damage for their busters. Essentially DRK has the better CDs for busters in this fight. If you have Black Mages, have them use Apoca on the tank that would probably need help mitigation I.E Warrior for Second Tank Buster. Virus too if you have it(SCH/SMN)

AST wise, if your tanks are doing the above mentioned, you can just Synastry one of the other prey target your healer is working with. This is usually best for 1 and 3 to help alleviate your Co-Healer. Overall, you want to treat it the same as WHM.

One Benefic/Cure time will roughly be equal to two Preys hitting your target.

On AST I do Synastry & Aspected Benefic on prey target (before prey goes off) -> Benfic II x2 (weave in Essential on Tank if needed) -> Essential if not burned & Disable on tank not using Hallowed/Holmgang. If its on the tank, I Synastry the other tank (or other Prey target--depends who it is) and Aspected Benefic -> Spam Benefic II.

On a side note, Preys can crit e_e nasty little buggers.

Have your dps Keen Flurry, Foresight...Only your caster and Mch should get hit hard. :)

Doesn't the whm have tetragrammaton? It's instant cast with only 60 seconds cool down. Can't you use that during prey to help out with the healing?

Well, sure. There's lots of good places Tetra can be used, though.

My personal strategy -- 2x cure II on the prey target, then I go back to my assigned tank. I prefer to have Tetra available to top up the tank before the buster, personally.

Tanks need to start using cds to mitigate the cleave right before prey. If pld they should have Rampart up then Sentinel first and third tank buster and HG the second. Warrior can equilibrium+Convalescence to self heal the cleave damage then vengeance, IB, unchained during prey. Tanks really need to concentrate their cds here to help with the damage. A 10 second cd will last through both the missile and plasma.

Healers should remain responsible for their own tank and choose one prey target to heal. Ask dps to use defensive cds such as mana wall, shade walker, feather foot, or second wind. Prioritize single target healing since their is no more aoe damage until after the tank buster. Blm apocatastasis can be placed on one tank for the tank buster.

As scholar I save 2 lustrates for this damage combo. I will adlo > physick > adlo prey target then switch back to the tank to top him off. I can have virus for every tank buster. Micro your fairy embrace so she is helping you.

As whm have regen on both tanks before prey targets are marked. You can pom the first and third damage combo and use tetra here.

As ast have an Aspected Benefic on both tanks. Put synastry on the tank while focusing the dps target. You have Lightspeed available here and can disable the tank buster.

Scholar and SMN can virus every tank buster. At split and after every jump have an E4E rotation. My group has our whm E4E a tank the first and third rotation and our BLM E4E the second rotation. Scholar/SMN can E4E a tank every rotation. This helps control the aoe damage throughout the phase so you will not fall so far behind.

Please note I did not touch on drk cds because I'm not as familiar, but the idea is the same. They need to concentrate most their CD use during prey and use their 30% magic damage mitigation for the tank buster with self healing as needed.

I've got the fight almost down to just feel at this point it seems like

for scholar what i tend to do once i see the red targeting is adlo on the tank followed by adlo on the hydrothermic missiles target, should naturally line up so it goes off right after the gunnery pod.
then one more adlo on the target into indomitability and virus then usually a lustrate and adlo on the tank
i do keep my virus on a simple /ac "Virus" <focus> macro so i never have to swap to targeting mobs for it if that helps

A white mage should be able to do the same with assize and tetra, and an astro would do synastry and dignity

the damage in the fight is so predictable that outside of that one part a single succor(emergency if available) and let the fairy deal with topping off is enough for every other gunnery pod

What I do on my ast is I would synastry my tank target while helping my pray target, I'll Ed him right before the tank bust comes out and disable the tank buster. I only needed to Healy my prey target 2-3 times and just focus on tank afterward. On my sch, I would heal my prey target and lustrate the tank in between. Remember, you don't have to heal the prey target for the full prey duration.

For us we just split them up, i get whoever's on top of the party list, and the healers get themselves. I dont SS both people, i just regen mine, she sch adlos hers, then when the timer is at 2 seconds i start casting cure 2 so it lands right after the aoe damage, then toss a second cure 2 then switch to the tank to top off. 2 cure 2's will always be enough UNLESS the dps has b4b up then you would have to cast an extra heal or they may die. Keep in mind that with 2 cure 2s they will end up being fairly low hp, but they won't die, regen will heal em up.

Not sure what the sch does aside from pre adlo.

as others stated split the preys between the two healers to mitigate and toss a couple cures then focus on tanks. their isn't any raid-wide damage going out between double preys and Tankbusters. toss a few cures to keep the prey targets alive and then let the HoT top ppl off while assisting the tanks.
