Sch dps rotation

Instead of all these threads complaining about AST...can anyone talk about their dps rotations as scholar?

My groups first attempt in A1 savage...i was doing just over 300dps but i saw parse of sch over 500 while also outhealing the whm

Im not that far off top gear at this point and have ravana book so just not sure why there is such big gap.

Maybe they got lucky and didn't miss miasma a bunch.

This is what I've been wondering is if people are using melded acc accessories or maybe even non-mnd law accesssories with acc.

I usually do bio II-> miasma -> bio -> Swiftcast shadowflare -> broil spam, keep dots up, blow aetherflow on energy drains mixed into ruin IIs when aetherflow is on CD, otherwise I like to keep them in case I need them for heals.

The question is: is this going to stick or will it be replaced by 210 gear. I guess once you overgear the encounters it doesn't really matter any more. Especially if your dps outgars the dps checks.

ACC is of even greater importance now that we have Broil as a filler nuke. Missing Broils and Energy Drains while BV Foe is up makes me cry and kills my opener.

That's the difference between someone who mains scholar and someone who obviously just picked up the class. In the hands of an experienced player SCH can put out decent numbers and heal at the same time, in the hands of one of these FOTM players I have seen horrifically low heals and damage and it drives me crazy as a SCH main.

I can pull pretty high numbers off DPS and HPS wise if I play smart. Can be stressful at times mindyou.

But I see no reason why a SCH wouldn't pull good numbers. Hell, in A2 an Astrologian spamming gravity WILL top the DPS charts so long as a Bard/MCH cans their ego and feeds them mana that entire time. Don't tell me I made that up, yesterday I had an AST continuously dominate DPS on AOE fights where I fed him mana intentionally for that purpose.

Healers can do good damage in this game, I don't think healers should be forced into DPSing but lets be serious... if you're not then you're not going 100%, or even 80%. Sitting back spamming cure is easy, going all-in and DPSing while healing everyone isn't. (Moreso without a reliable HoT you can apply and strong aoe heals.)

Im not arguing healers shouldnt be able to get decent dps...im trying to figure out how to close the gap between my 300ish and the 500 someone else got.

My group did run with bard but i cant say for sure BV foes was up when i was in dps mode. The whm does all the healing along with eos until 4 adds up. But even after that i sneak in dots between heals tho dont exactly get much time after that point to stance dance. I definitely miss broil a couple times in process. We just got 180 crafted accesories so might look into those.

Im just wondering if something else i should be doing.


I usually do bio-miasma-bio2 -swift shadowflare-miasma 2-bio then broil spam until time to refrsh as needed using energy drain to get some mp back until they start being needed for lustrates.

Do i skip slow casting shadowflare to refresh? Do i skip miasma 2? Is that 500 inflated with add dps because the OT is tanking and dpsing Faust?

I main scholer. I go into a fight with Cleric stance on. (If i have time shadow flair ) Bio 2, miasma, bio, aero, and if i feel like it i run in close for a miasma 2. Then i either spam broil, or turn off cleric stance and heal depending on if i need to. Then repeat when all the DOT's run out. At I lvl 150 i saw about 1000 damage per tick.
Its all about how comfortable you are with dancing in and out of cleric stance. Good thing i love to dance.

I forgot to add that i do them in that order because its the longest to shortest duration. That way they're all in effect at the same time for longer.

Shadow flare on 3 sec timer on tank pull macro>bio II>energy drain>miasma>energy drain>bio>energy drain>aero>broil. This is my opener.

After this its refresh priority system on DoTs, so start the cast to refresh DoTs at around the 3 sec mark, try not to let any fall off. When not DoTing or healing, its broil spam. For aetherflow stacks, if people dont need healing, use energy drain in clerics, i tend to use a minimum of 1 stack per aetherflow usage on energy drain.

In the faust fight this nets me 450-550 dps, depending on how much healing needs to be done and misses etc.

In prolonged fights broil will eat mana, so ruin can be you age old friend in dpsing there :).

Edit: energy drain weaving adds a lot to your dps, but is at the risk of no lustrates.

I have 500+ dps on A1 savage as scholar. Maybe I can help but not sure, I just do my rotation and keep an eye on the mt/ot everytime.

If you are accustomed to dps then it shouldn't be a problem. But you need good synergy with your whm partner too!

been playing with same group since 2nd coil so pretty accustomed to whm and the tanks. Im going to try reversing my order of dots and try to weave in energy drains more often. Do you guys keybind cleric stance to a mouse button or something to make stance dancing easier/quicker?

So we have our tanks use a 5 sec pull announcement macro, so it tells us in party chat "pulling in 5" "pulling in 4" etc. when the 3 sec announcement comes up, i start casting shadowflare so it hits at exactly the same time as the tanks pull, like what BLM do with thunder spells on the pull.

In addition to the above, it should be noted that healer DPS is very heavily tied to the competency of your group. I can reach about 680-700 DPS with appropriate food and pots (and +Accuracy melds) on a dummy, but that damage is attenuated in a real situation by how much damage people are taking. If your party avoids unnecessary damage, it's easy to swap in/out of Cleric Stance at times when you know that heavy damage will be hitting. If they're taking unnecessary damage, it directly impacts the amount of time you can spend in Cleric Stance, and thus your overall DPS.

My standard rotation is pre-cast Shadowflare -> Bio II -> Bio I (Energy Drain) -> Miasma -> Aero (Energy Drain) -> Ruin II (Energy Drain) -> Broil, refreshing DoTs as necessary. I can generally avoid clipping most of the DoTs if I'm on point and don't have to move a bunch. I'm still trying to figure out the best timing for a Mind pot.

For Faust I start with draconian mind potion (hq) > cleric stance (does it matter if I use cleric stance before or after the pot?) > swiftcast shadowflare > bio II > miasma > bio I > aero, then broils and energy drains and refreshing shadowflare and DoTs as they wear. I stand close to Faust for auto-attacks. Accuracy has been 100% or close to it (with standard healer gear) and DPS 563 on our first kill (with shadowflare hitting the adds). Our WHM solo heals until 4-5 stacks.

I hit 420dps on best run so far so im getting there. I need to add aero to rotation and ive started getting into melee range while dpsing which also allows me to miasma2 more.

I would cleric before pot since the pot only lasts 15s and you have to get as much spells out as u can un that time.

Yeah but I mean since cleric swaps your MND and INT and pot adds MND, does it still turn the MND from pot to INT if you use it after you've already used cleric stance? :)

What I do as an opener is:
Shadow Flare (Potion) Bio II (Energy Drain) Miasma (Energy Drain) Bio (Energy Drain) Aero (Aetherflow) Broil (Energy Drain) Broil (Energy Drain) Broil (Energy Drain) Bio (Dissipation) Aero (Energy Drain) Broil (Energy Drain) Broil (Energy Drain). Keep DoTs up and Broil in between, Aetherflow should be up again before Oppressor 0.5 spawns.

actually not sure if the GCD skills are correct, but the off-GCDs are.

Cleric Stance performs a continual check of your MND and INT, rather than a snapshot. Try using a storebought INT potion while in Cleric Stance and you'll see that your MND goes up, and vice versa for a MND potion. You can use MND potions in Cleric Stance and it'll add to your damage just fine.

Speaking of Mind Pot, what's the optimal SCH pot rotation?

Bio, Energy Drain, Swiftcast Shadowflare, Energy Drain, Bio 2, Miasma, Aero, Energy Drain, Bio for example?

Precast Shadowflare -> Bio II -> Bio I (MND Pot, Energy Drain) -> Miasma -> Aero (Energy Drain, Swiftcast) -> Shadow Flare (Energy Drain, Aetherflow) -> Bio II -> Bio I (Energy Drain) [potion ends]

It lets you squeeze in a potion-buffed version of four Energy Drains and all of your major DoTs. I need to test it out more to see if there's a more optimal point to use it at, but it doesn't seem like it.

I usually use the MND potion before anything, but this rotation makes more sense if you get to cast bio2/bio at it's ending, so it's a good MND pot rotation.

I do the Bio2/bio+Energy drain thing too on starters, and then when I'm renewing dots I use Energy Drain after any Bio or Aero because the GCD.

Seems like we'll need Acc food ._.

Do yall macro these openers? I think i need to look at rearranging my bars.

Also i started using hq marron glaze but dont think that is proper food. The spell speed isnt really noticeable and the 15 accuracy doesnt get me to cap because i still see misses.

Never macro GCD actions, especially for DPS purposes. Macros disable ability queuing, which means you will inevitably delay your next action. Plus there are times when you will want to use your spells separately.

you can hit the Acc Cap for A1 easily with the right side meldet.
Cap should be sitting on 490 Acc. Grilled Catfish will help to, it's pretty cheap on my server since no class beside the healer realy need to watch the acc :(
It also feels like that Ravana got a higher Acc Cap than A1 / A2... somehow xD

One could easily throw nine Energy Drains in an opener if you go in with three stacks, Aetherflow already ready, and use dissipation to get other three.

This is always a DPS loss unless fighting multiple targets, as the potency from Miasma II is the same as Ruin/Ruin II. Better off using a Broil.

Ask for a pull countdown so you can Adlo deploy, my usual opener;

Adlo WAR > E4E > Deploy > cleric > Shadow flare > fey wind > Pot > Bio 2
Pull starts
Miasma > Bio (ED) > Aero (Swiftcast) (ED) > Broil (ED) (AF) > Broil until you have to reapply your dots weaving ED between. After your opener there's no rotation just a priority system, make sure all 5 of your dots are active and broil.

This obviously changes per fight, for example on A1S take advantage of 2 bosses and double dot both of them.

For food take grilled sweetfish, gives acc and crit, and it's also cheap, you can also take baked pirapira but I value accuracy more.

As a former SMN main, when switching to SCH I ended up basing part of my opening on the former's '2F1P' opener, substituting SMN's Aetherflow skills with ED accordingly, like so:

(Cleric Stance, MND Pot, then:)
Bio II > Miasma > Bio > Swiftcast > ED > Shadowflare > ED > Aero > ED + Aetherflow > Broil

After this, you just use Broil until you have to reapply dots. Whenever you have to reapply instant spells like Bio and Aero, weave ED in-between (so for example, Bio > ED > Aero > ED > Broil, etc.)

Never use Miasma II on single target. It has less potency (70) than Ruin/Ruin II (80).

It is. It's a DPS gain at 3+ targets, and a DPS loss otherwise. The only reason you'd sometimes see it in SMN openers was because you could Contagion it to increase the effective potency. Broil is always better at <2 targets, however.

Based on those rankings, wouldn't this rotation create more dps?

The first Rotation's order of debuffs would be much better suited Bane-ing multi-targets, while still single targeting one core boss. The dps potency of this change is probably miniscule, but just trying to create something optimum.

For pure DPS without considering Litany/Trick Attack/Foe's, I don't think you can beat the rotation in the beginning of your post.

However, something like B > M > B2 might work better if you don't get Litany until 1 GCD in, for example. You might want to just look at what your party gets and when if you're going to adjust your rotation.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but unless you are fighting something that dies really quickly and assuming your DoTs will expire naturally isn't total base damage per cast more important than boosting your per tick DoT?

Like, since Bio II is the most damage you will cast with 1 GDC isn't that the one you want to cast first? Isn't the goal to cast as your highest damage casts as much as possible?

Per Tick DoT only seems relevant when you are in a situation where a longer DoT like Bio II isn't going to fully expire.

That being said, thinking about it, there might be an argument to be made where Bio > Bio II > Bio might be better than Bio II > Bio if the thing you are fighting is only going to be alive for 45 secs and casting a second Bio II isn't going to help.

Ensure 3 stacks and AF off CD
Cast Bio2 on pull as tank is running in, weave EDs between each cast, step as needed to cancel animation.

If for whatever reason you want to start with Bio, pre cast broil to hit as tank pulls and then use bio.

DOTs snapshot stats at point of casting, given Bio2 has a total pot of 350 and bio has 240, you tell me which one you want buffed, not to mention the longer duration with inc crit% provides more chances to crit.

If possible, cast shadowflare before the pull even starts if its a case the tank can pull the mob/boss into it.
