LGBT Friendly Linkshell
I am starting a linkshell for LGBT People, now I know there is a common argument that it only "divides" the community, but let me explain.
If I were to make an lgbt free company, that wouldn't really do much. People are already committed to their free companies, so they might not be willing to make the jump. Instead, I am proposing a linkshell, so that we can have a safe place to converse with one another. Allies will be welcome too!
I have had a few negative experiences, and as a result I'm feeling out of place. Someone "proposed to me" for the ceremony of eternal bonding, now I wasn't expecting a serious relationship, but I thought he was gay. Apparently, he wasn't. It was only a joke that he kept going. I don't really want a straight wedding on here, because a straight wedding would make me uncomfortable, but I feel like the odds of that happening are very little. I wanted to be on Gilgamesh, but I was bumped to Jenova. Leave your suggestions. :D

You can also use this thread to let people know about your LS : http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ed-August-2014

"LGBT friendly" Linkshell implies that other Linkshells are not. I've never heard about any FC or Linkshell that excludes LGBT. In fact, why is sexual preference even a factor for anything in game? Do you plan on discussing sexual preferences in this Linkshell? If not why bother with the advertisement?

I don't like comments like these. If people want to gather under a common umbrella then let them, if they feel separated from doing so, then just don't join. It's really that simple.

The linkshell is now active, and its doing well. We have about ten members, and we've scheduled a beach party for every saturday. Everyone is super happy. :) http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...8999068458247/

Ignore Grinch, like really ignore him, the amount of transphobic comments I see on Jenova daily and the amount of "dude that's ****ing gay/faggot" I see daily.
So yes an LBGT linkshell is welcome..
Send me an invite when you get on :D.

I liked that you mentioned transphobic comments, it's hard for transgender players to find like minded people to just be social with or discuss issues with.
General statement/addressing prior discussion:
There is transphobia even within the LGBT community, so it can be even more difficult at times. The aim isn't to not include others or create a schism within the games community, but there are many in the general community who know little about or may not want to know about anything having to do with transgender individuals. It's nice having a place to go where people understand what you are talking about, and who can give you feedback, and be social with you. Even though it may not directly have to do with the game, mmorpgs by there very nature are social. Anyway I'm glad someone brought up transphobic comments, it often goes unaddressed, and it's a group of people that's not always represented and not always in an accurate or good manner.

BTW if you wouldn't mind I'll take an invite too! Character Name: Cherie Lafury, Thank You! :)

I'll add you to the linkshell, just let me know when you're on. We have 35 members now.

Hey! I'm a new player and could be interested in joining your linkshell. Are linkshells cross-server communities?
-
Unfortunately they are server exclusive.
-
I Will do that for sure, thank you very much! :)

You're hating on the guy for saying that most people are LGBT tolerant? Seems a little hypocritical to me.
.. but what do I know? I'm just a Lesbian/Gay/Transgender/Everything under the sun tolerant guy.

I don't get what is wrong with Grinch's questions though? Plus you never answered him. I don't think him asking any of those things is by any means displaying homophobia or name calling etc. Is it?
The amount of times sexual preference has come up in any of my linkshells, various FCs or statics is close to 0 - and that's accounting for thousands of interactions. If you're actively harassed or seeing stuff you don't like then report them. I've seen people from the server get banned for that stuff. If your goal is to create a place for others to discuss their issues then that's great. However, don't take a dump on a dude for asking why. The way this thread was started implied there's a big problem regarding intolerance.

Well for starters he (Grinch) started off his question by implying that the purpose of the LS they are making, and the title meant that "Other linkshells are not (LGBT Friendly)" Not only is this an absurd proposition, it's outwardly patronizing.
Second, why does he have to answer to anyone about /why/ he wants to start his LS? Is he not entitled to have LS like anyone else? Further more just because YOU personally have not experienced harassment or discrimination in your LS in no way proves anything in regards to it's existence or prevalence on the server. I've seen in a whole lot and lets not pretend that reporting someone makes things better, stops the harassment immediately, or creates an open area where said person feels safe. Hence the reason they are creating a LS to find like minded people without that nonsense.
Beyond all that, the guy came in with the explicit purpose to question this person about their linkshell (which is completely inclusive btw, anyone can join no matter your orientation) and did so in a very patronizing manner. Being genuinely curious about the LS is one thing, but coming in and being like " Do you plan on discussing sexual preferences in this Linkshell? If not why bother with the advertisement? "
A better question would be "do you plan on joining the LS? No? Why are you here then?"
I've seen this post pop up a few times in the new posts feed and I've avoided commenting on it, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the reason that the OP is creating said LS is to avoid people like Grinch. Straight up. And to follow up the OP is in no way required to answer that mans patronizing questions and implying that he should answer those questions when he was obviously bothered by it in the first place is INDEED harassment.
At the end of the day he couldn't even post on the server board about an LGBT LS without being questioned about it's validity, sexual preference discussions of the LS, or why he wants to be around like minded people and not made to feel uncomfortable. It should be obvious as to why he wants an LGBT Friendly LS. If you guys don't want to join, that's fine. If you do, that's cool too. But if you are just going to sit here and harass this man as to why he didn't answer the patronizing questions that were asked earlier in the thread you are kidding yourself, especially when the person who asked then obviously isn't LGBT tolerant or he wouldn't be asking them to begin with. Or maybe some people are just more uneducated on these things than others. But lets not pretend that it would be okay to walk into an NAACP meeting and start being like "You are implying other organizations are anti-black.. or "are you guys discussing skin color in here? If not whats the purpose of this organization?" because it shows a gross amount of ignorance and disrespect.
