I know it probably set for some kind of PG-13 crap or something but even still I don't want to see:
A**
Bit**
Sh**
Dam*
God Dam*
Either as I'm sure most that set the filter also do not want to see them.
Just a pet peeve...
OkThanksBai. :o

Personally I don't use the filter because... I don't care
but
Someone suggested a custom filter, where you put in your own words. That would be nice to have, I think. (and it'd be better, like full censorship of whatever's in your "filter list")
If the words you see are religiously or sexually offensive to you, report the player. Its against the TOS.
Otherwise you need to grow up a bit and understand that people say bad things out in the big scary world. Learn to ignore it, becausr you'll be hearing bad words for the rest of your life.
If you don't want to see even that stuff, you should probably just go back home and crawl under your bed, because that's about the only place you won't find it.
Those terms are all even said (more or less) by numerous NPC dialogue.
Can't help but chuckle a bit at the fact you used 'crap' in the title but *'d out some words many would find less offensive.
I think they were more likely referring to the word 'damn'. I've seen Saturday morning cartoons that use it infrequently.
There's only one thing that annoys me about the filter, and that's when it asterisks out words that are clearly not intended to be curses. For example, writing "isn't it" becomes "isn'* **". A smarter filter would probably help, but it's also probably more trouble than it's worth to make one.
For my part, I keep the filter on simply because I have young children and I don't want them picking up bad habits. It doesn't offend me personally. The biggest problem with making the censorship more heavy-handed is that we'll end up getting more unintentional censors than before, and that would eventually make chat unreadable with it on.
Being offended by the word "damn"?!
I have an urge to facepalm so hard that I will travel in time.
Also, you are 46 and can't handle a few swear words?! God damn some people...
IMO they should just remove the language filter, the game is rated T with warning because of Language in NA and Pegi 16 in Europe. People who comply by the rating already should know all these words and be able to handle them.
I can agree with a stronger or more customizable language filter.
I'm very fortunate that I am in a respectful FC that doesn't use strong language and am on a JP server so I almost never get pared with English players so I don't run into it in DF.
I keep the filter *off* specifically because its bad.
Most are. Nothing like g**** jelly and fearing the mighty ****atrice or being able look up how to roast a turkey ****** or discussing ******ination rogues...
I didn't tried to filter the language but I wonder if they filter JP word like kuso (damn) or some porn word.
Person Age : 46
Brain Age : 16 (or 6 ?)
You can have your $%#@ advanced language filter only if they ^&%*$# handle it like they did in #&$*@% FFVII. That game was the @&%#!
Words are not offensive. They're just collections of different letters.
If you're offended by a word, it's because you "want" to be offended by the word.
This thread is getting deep as f$*#....
Don't NPCs use profanity? Lol.
This is not the Hello Kitty Island Adventure you are looking for. *hand wave*
(Although a custom filter would make a lot of sense.)
Meh, the filter is adequate for its job. It's perfectly possible to make extremely offensive and/or threatening comments without ever using a bad word, so it's not going to prevent you seeing things you don't like.
Also, any excuse to quote Stephen Fry
Swearing is a really important part of one's life. It would be impossible to imagine going through life without swearing and without enjoying swearing... There used to be mad, silly, prissy people who used to say swearing was a sign of a poor vocabulary -such utter nonsense. The people I know who swear the most tend to have the widest vocabularies and the kind of person who says swearing is a sign of a poor vocabulary usually have a pretty poor vocabulary themselves... The sort of twee person who thinks swearing is in any way a sign of a lack of education or a lack of verbal interest or -is just a f___ing lunatic... I haven't met anybody who's truly shocked at swearing, really, they're only shocked on behalf of other people. Well, you know, that's preposterous... or they say 'it's not necessary'. As if that should stop one doing it! It's not necessary to have coloured socks, it's not necessary for this cushion to be here, but is anyone going to write in and say 'I was shocked to see that cushion there, it really wasn't necessary'? No, things not being necessary is what makes life interesting -the little extras in life.
Almost 50 years old and of all things to really have your gears grinded about.

You actually kill people in this game. If that isn't offensive to you but the bad words are I think you are insane.
What did the blanket say when it fell off the bed? Oh sheet.
/sarcasm
This thread is annoying to me. Wish there would be a filter to remove those types of thread. Just a pet peeve...
/sarcasm off
But seriously tho, learn to live in society (or play social games) where those words can and will be used or don't and play another game. This is taken directly from the ESRB website :
Content Descriptors: Alcohol Reference, Animated Blood, Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence
This is on the box of the game and on the Terms and Conditions, when you play you agree to those and you agree that there will be bad words used. Furthermore :
Other: Includes online features that may expose players to unrated user-generated content.
This is the nature of a MMO. Grow up or move on to another more, family oriented game.
Wth are people being so aggressive toward OP? oO If I understood correctly they are just complaining about the chat filter, they have the right to not want to see certain words, that's why the filter is here in the first place. Because nowadays most people use swearing in every sentence doesn't mean everyone else does too or appreciate it.
Is being realistic about what playing an MMO and interacting with users in a Teen rated game equal to being agressive towards OP? The issue at hand here is not only that X player wishes not to see Y word. It's X players wishing not to see Y word in an environment where Y word IS allowed and SHOULD be expected. Why do you even play online games if you can't handle the content, which it is written ON THE BOX when you buy the game.
Can they make the profanity filter more "filtery" sure. But should they spend development time to modify it for the very little number of players who can't play a Teen rated game. Absolutely not.
I agree the first post with your own filter seems like it would be the best solution. However the level of people cussing has not changed that much just has become more mainstream like being openly gay and being very pro-black rights. I don't see a problem with it since it has given the words less meaning and thus be less blunt of an insult. Overall I do not see cussing as a problem in society if at all. Once again the chat filter would probably be the best solution, but overall I rather have more content and balance reworks over a chat filter which is why you see people being so against it.

Even though I personally don't care.
The way the agreement is written if someone finds the profanity offensive they can report you.
The use of profanity could get you in trouble regardless of filter. So the way I view it is if it would get filtered you could get in trouble for it.
It states the game is for 13yr old children.
In most societies profanity is something most parents do not tolerate around kids.
Just because someone has not reported does not mean that nothing will be done.
I mean come on I had a buddy suspended for 72 hrs for announcing the person that pulled the hunt early.
The reason was name shame.
In the end it will be decided by the gm. Assumption is the mother of all evils and assuming that its just for hate speech could cost someone.
Abuse is also in the eye of the beholder. An example: I think a parent spanking a kid for being bad is not abuse but, someone else could and report it and you spend the next 6 month dealing with cps ;)
Never seen someone report it let alone a GM care. And just talking about parenting your kid either is cussing at 13 or you probably banned them from video games at his point. I would not let my 13 year old on an mmo unless they where mature enough to play it (which then cuss words do not matter). You have very Christen sensibility, which is fine, but many people find over bearing or sheltering. I think there are may issues in the world that need attention much more then having someones kid be introduced to cussing at the age 13. There are jokes in movies about teaching kids cuss words at this point, society no longer cares as much.
This is the full ESRB rating for "Teen" :
Games with this rating contain content which the board believes is suitable for those aged 13 years and older; they can contain moderate amounts of violence (including small amounts of blood), mild to moderate use of strong language or suggestive themes, and crude humor.
Also, when you say parents do not tolerate it around kids you are absolutely right. If you don't tolerate it, don't let your kids play it. Oh wait but OP is an adult? To me, if you don,t tolerate it, don't look atit. Don't blindly report players who use strong language just because poor little you are offended by something that is being said in a game and in an anvironement where it is expected to happen.
Plus it is such a very small issue in comparaison to a whole world of things that devs could spend time on.
Nope I could give a care about profanity. In fact I think its a bit stupid for any words to be labeled as a no no word.
I don't get mad if anyone cusses like a sailor. The only time it gets me mad is when it's aggressiveness towards me. As far as aggression toward me well when they play with fire ;)
Most parents I know do not allow profanity around kids. They let them play games that are rated that is what the rating system is for. Are the a bit naive... sure.
As far as society no longer cares about it... outside society might not care about it but, in a professional atmosphere it can cost you.
In general society is a bit wacky... they have no issues with someone getting killed on live tv but, you show some nudity and all things go out the door lol.
What in the world does this have to do with being offended? The language filter should work properly, and it doesn't to an extent. I don't care for swearing, but I leave it off since it will filter in the weirdest way possible with no cursing involved.
