STR tanks are a plague to our community.
STR tanks are literally Hitler.
(Very obvious sarcasm. I usually run full strength or 3/2 str/vit and do just fine... when I'm not sleeping at the keyboard)
I'll ignore the other part...
For me it would be:
1.DA + Dark Mind
2.DA + Dark Mind + Shadowskin
3.DA + Dark Mind + Shadow Wall
4.DA + Dark Mind + Conv (If it makes it to 4...)
After 4 well DA + Dark Mind on all of them and reuse Shadowskin and Wall as they come up... But really really shouldn't hit a 5th ray or you need to fire all your dps >.>
The cat is bemused =>.>=
1st: Rampart + Foresight
2nd: Sentinel + Convalescence
3rd: Screw mechanics I'm a god button
Oh and STR tanks are a plague. The more buffer you have, the easier it is for one of your healers to dam near full time dps. Our dps > My dps.
1. Inner Beast
2. Inner Beast + filler
3. Inner Beast + filler/Holmgang
4. Inner Beast + Filler/Holmgang.
1. Dark Mind
2. Dark Mind + filler
3. Dark Mind + filler
4. Dark Mind + Filler/living dead.
I'd make a set pattern, but its not going to kill me either way.
1. Dark Arts Dark Mind.
2. Dark Arts Dark Mind + Shadowskin.
3. Dark Arts Dark Mind + Shadow Wall + Convalescence.
4. Living Dead if DPS is slow, or slow to LB3. :)
I might pop Conva for #1, but only if I "pre-pop" it right before Discoid starts, or at the very start of the cast, since I know I usually will need it for #3. I don't save it for LD because we should win even if I die right after that - if we're not on the last 1-2% at that point, one or more of the dps is being lazy, or we haven't popped a DPS LB3 yet for some reason.
A word of warning to my fellow DRKs: Don't use a macro'd DA+DM for this - it'll throw the timing off, guaranteed. Instead, to into your Delirium rotation and pop a Dark Arts just before Discoid starts (you'll get a feel for this after you've tanked it a few times, but it comes a bit after Carnage). That way, when Discoid starts you have DA primed and can just pop DM as the castbar hits about 50%, and it'll be ready for the next Discoid.
Also, healers, if you're reading this, please do your tank a favor: Focus target the boss in P3, and be ready to pop a heal or 2 on the tank right after Discoid finishes. Eternal Ray is a multi-hit attack and heals can happen in between blasts, which helps. If you can save Swiftcast/Lightspeed for that, you can even guarantee one heal in between, which can be the difference between your tank surviving and not.

(60 DRK Main)
Discoid 1: Rampart + selfcast Stoneskin
Discoid 2: Sentinel + selfcast Stoneskin + Convalescence as I eat a few orbs
Discoid 3: Hallowed Ground
Also Full Vit Right side.
As a Dark Knight I usually:
Discoid 1: Always have Delirium up (if no monk is present), Dark Arts + Dark Mind
Discoid 2: Delirium up, Shadowskin, Convalescence
Discoid 3: Delirium up, Shadow Wall, Dark arts + Dark Mind
Discoid 4: Boss is usually dead by now if not Living Dead and every other CD I have left
Edit: Drk tanks should REALLY use Delirium in heavy magic damage fights if no monk is present, boggles my mind that NO Drks ever use it.
I don't need cooldowns because all my slaying accessories let me kill the boss before I have to worry about it.
You don't even need VIT accessories to tank this boss. Ray only hits for 2-3k with proper CD usage(and Delirium).
Only problem is right now Delirium is over writing dragon kick meaning less DPS for Monks as it gives int down and - blunt resistance. If i'm holding back their dps for delirium then it's not worth it i'd rather be using DA Souleater, if it's not up and i'm about to get a tank buster then I throw in a delirium.
Foresight, wait what? Its magical damage, like everything else there, except for AA from adds.
I use:
1. Rampart + Conva
2. Sentinel
3. HG
4. Rampart + Conva (if it comes that far)
STR tanks are plague, they think healers have nothing better to do than spam heals on main tank. Healers get that nasty debuff there, which ticks for 3k, so they kinda have to heal themself, on top of that they have to heal others and also have to dodge aoe which has this bad habit to spawn in moment you start taking that tank buster. When PuG dps decide to share orbs and people run over healers and take their debuff, then next worst thing is healing a 12k HP main tank who thinks that extra 150 dps which cuts 10s from fight duration at best will make a difference.
1. Inner Beast + Vengeance
2. Inner Beast + Thrill of Battle + Convalescence
3. Inner Beast + Infuriate + (Inner Beast buff falls off) Inner Beast + Holmgang
Repeat if it goes beyond 3 X_X
I use Equilibrium when possible and like to have it up during the third PR. Depending on the situation I will also pop Bloodbath and Berserk during the third one also.
EDIT: Oh yea, I usually end up with NINs in the group and they love to put up Dancing Edge, over-writing my Storm's Eye, so I use Storm's Path instead of wasting time over-writing their DE with my SE
Sounds like dream team O.O
It occurs every 60 seconds which means you can Shadowskin every second Discoid. What the heck are you DRKs doing?
1) Dark Mind + Shadowskin
2) Dark Mind + Shadow Wall
3) Dark Mind + Shadowskin
4) Why aren't you in STR accessories?
Inner beast all the things! +
1: Vengeance + Equilibrium.
2: Thrill + Conv + Equilibrium.
3: Vengeance + Equilibrium.
Holmgang reserved for dead healers.
Never touched a fending accessory in my life. Fending vs Slaying accs makes IB, Bloodbath and Equilibrium weaker by 20-25%
I have a button which has DA+DM Macro'd together. I used to use it for Discoid/Eternal Ray, but found that this caused Dark Mind to not quite be back off CD for the next one, which is why I stopped doing that and started pre-prepping DA before Discoid starts, or using it right as the cast starts (popping DM on the next tick-interval). I haven't had any issues having DM available for every Discoid since, which is why I warned about using a macro alongside my CD rotation.
Edit: Misread that. I don't use SS+DADM alone for #3 because #3 has more hits to it than #1 does. Thus, my note about making sure to pop Convalescence there.
Because I'm a tank, and because I don't have a static or even a pocket healer atm. If your healers are good with it, going mostly or all STR is OK. If not, then it's not. Remember: Eternal Ray does 2-3k damge mitigated per hit, and hits multiple times, if I understand right. I really don't want to be the one eating a 5-pack of those to the face, mitigated or not, with only 12-14k hp unless I know my healers can keep me alive through it.

(60 DRK Main)
1) IB+Thrill+Conval
2) IB+Vengeance+IB
3) Dark Mind + Shadow Wall or Hallow/Sent/Whatever
4) There is no Fourth. Living Dead if bad.
What? You guys don't do tank swaps? Tsk. Savage is going to have a field day with you guys :P
Rampart+Clemency
Sentinel+Clemency
Hallowed Ground/Laugh
Any Progression Raider would instantly recognize this as Bahamut's Claw 2.0. Also, if provoking and popping a buff is "detriment" your efficiency you need to look long and hard at what exactly are you doing to screw up something so simple. (Protip: Using the Longest cooldowns on both tanks is better than squandering a single tank's CD's).
The point is that it is overkill. The OT can simply use those cooldowns to soak the balls. Will things be different in savage. Of course they will. But right now it is not needed and trying to shame others for not tank swapping unnecessarily doesn't make you look like a pro. It makes you look like an elitist tryhard.
My A4 clears never get past more than 4 perpetual rays, I usually OT and let the other tank eat the first two.
For the third I stack Rampart and Sentinel, for the fourth Hallowed Ground. No successful clear I've had ever went to 5 perpetuals.
Those balls however are different from Perpetual Ray. First they do 30% lower damage than Perpetual Ray, second you can decide when do you take them and how many you take, you dont have that option with Perpetual Ray. You dont have to be a raider to figure out that best thing for healers is if you use strongest cds from both tanks to mitigate highest incoming damage source.
