I am the only BRD who misses support more than DPS?

Hello,
this is not another QQ thread (I hope), we have enough of them and I fully support them.
I would just like to know the opinion of other BRDs on our situation in 3.0.

From my own experience I think that our DPS is completely fine now, but I kinda hopped for more support skills in 3.0.

ATM we have 3 "old" songs and new "stoneskin" that is probably supposed to be used only in special situations. While I believe there are many options for new supportability.

Appart from new songs that could offer heal boost over time (I know we have cross classmantra already), we could get for example insta cast skill that would deplete our whole mana and give everyone in pt 100 - 200% potency boost to their following skill. This would require lots of coordination in team so the people would not just waste the buff on some 50 potency off GCD skill but if handled well, it could be epic.

In end I would just like to say that I am one of the BRDs who are willing to sacrifice some DPS in order to be more supportive.

The only change to the support that I'd like to be made is for Foe's to affect all damage, not just magical. That way I have something to play when I don't have a caster in the group.

Oh yeah, and Warden's not being practically useless.

It'd be an utter nightmare to balance to a practical standpoint, esp for MCH whose the direct counterpart to BRD.

Nope, we're DPS. Why, or even how someone can miss something we arent is beyond me but I digress. We never were support, at least not since ARR. If anything we need more DPS. Even if the only way to do that is to further nerf our songs then so be it.

IF (and thats BIG if) SE were to ever implement an official support role complete with a place in DF, then maybe thered be a reason for more support abilities or buffs. Otherwise we're just some cheap hybrid thats only really useful in new groups trying to get their first clear, and a burden to those needing to beat tough DPS checks.

I was hoping for a few more support options too. I don't play Bard but I've always been a fan of the party buff classes.

The biggest thing I think BRD lost was the healer LB.

I've never thought "damn, I wish this BRD would dps LB". But I have thought "welp, the healers are dead, only mt and brd alive, would be nice if that BRD could healer lb3".

I would like to see this in a little compromise. DPS LB for PvP and heal lb for PvE content.

I have never said we aren't DPS. But what is the purpose of having Archer class with cast times, no support and same DPS as mages? In that case they could rather give bow glamour to BLM.
BRD was always accepted as a DPS class (by me) with lower DPS and supportive skills and I would rather see them further this side of the BRD. I am not saying that your definition is wrong, everyone plays BRD for something else. That is why I made this thread, to know opinions of other BRDs.

Agree with OP. Instead of giving us a caster dps stance they should have given us a phy damage increase song for a target party member. We keep our support and also close the dps gap.

I agree with the OP, when I heard bard changes were coming I figured they would add some real nice support. Not saying they don't support as it is, but I geared up my bard ready to roll, if there was more support I'd hang up my SMN and blast out the bow again. I was a bard in 1.19/1.20 but stopped in 2.0 after 50.

I also agree with the foes requiem being boosted to all damage, since you're sacrificing damage as it is you need to make up for it by giving others a boost in some way.

Though others are correct, they are a DPS..I remember the whole "I'm not a bard I'm an archer!" arguments. Still maybe there's a good reason why there's not a support role slot. Let someone who can DPS a bit but the output from the other party members makes up for it, at least I would feel that should be the intent.

I love buffing party members..by far my most favorite thing in the old 11 was to get to a camp and go "missing a lot? let me help with that..there ya go. Ok we leveled once or twice, hitting okay? now lets hit harder..pld..ballad? sure stand here.." I was a busy busy bard. Buffing the DPS then over to the mages to buff them and make it so the tank got half the dps buff + the ballad and run back behind the mages to give them their full buff, very fun.

Nope, you're not alone. I made a similar thread about MCH and how our support abilities are really situational and lack the actual "support" that we're supposed to have. Long cooldown abilities that are only used in very end game is not support. A buff that increases the party damage or reduces damage for an entire fight (in exchange for personal dps) is support.

Same here. I really never cared about our DPS. I mean I always tried to pull the highest number but I was okay being below average DPS. I don't necessarily think we needed the damage boost from minuet. They could have added more support abilities while keeping our gameplay intact.

Also, our new support spell is probably useful but people are whining too much. It'll for sure find its use in savage alexander without problems.

My new main is machinist, I miss the support too. But that things we have is in the moment not really in need. Most time I'm only a mana battery.....
When we are supposed to be a support DPS, then we should have more of it......
Give us more support things or more DPS.....
I'm feeling so useless when not even healer need any mana or the DPS our support......we slow down the group.....

You see, people keep saying that BRD and MCH abilities will see their use in Savage and other end game content. Personally, I feel our abilities should be useful all the time, especially if the reason we're given lower damage than other dps classes is because of them. Situational support is always a bad thing to balance a class around.

Using your logic, BRD/MCH should do less Damage only during Savage? out of Savage We should do the same amount of damage than others DPS?

I would love to see more support. It's sad that they decided to go away from support as a viable role. I've seen it done wonderfully in many games. Captain in LotRO was always a fun class to play in groups (old school LotRO, like vanilla/MoM days). a few GW2 classes come to mind as well.

bards are still pretty good at support, foe makes caster dps go above melee, particularly during burst phases. A foe'd BV'd blm will skyrocket over melee dps in terms of damage dealt during the song that's what a 20% damage amp will do though, too bad too many bards just don't use it. Matter of fact I rarely get foe outside of my own static members... it's like pulling teeth in a duty finder.

Paeon and ballad are still good, the fight designs themselves atm however deem paeon a little subpar... however instead of casting paeon then you could be singing foe. This is due to the multiple jump phases attached to encounters now, this is where bards should sing (during the jumps) but they do not.

About the op though... very good bard probably, however I do think the dps abilities were properly placed, except the esuna type one i guess. It could be something else.

When I was doing the BRD quest, I remember the lore of it, the NPC guy was sad because most of the poeple who looked for him for his archery skills to be his disciple went out disappointed because instead of archery they were teached songs... not understanding the power of songs that would enhance the power of their companions in the battlefield... hence, imo, BRDs real worth falls more into the support through songs lore wise.

Glad that I am not the only one who thinks this way.

In fact if we were to think of raid efficiency, BRD should always be the one pulling the healer LB3 especially in situations where 1 or both healers is dead.

Bard is a lovely support job, they will fix warden so hopefully it'll be a nice mitigation utility.

The whole support vs dps brd isn't going to stop because many of us just wanted to be pure physical dps, while many wanted to be mostly support. A job split for us would be nice so that those of us who don't want to support don't have to. The choices now are caster, melee, tp/mp battery; I just feel like it's really rigid and I'd like to be able to choose not to be a battery since I don't raid and it isn't needed in most of the content.
