Me and my friend started making our airship, spent 800k and started contributing materials only to come to a sudden god awful restriction, we now need 4 members present in the workshop for the next phase.
We were both really looking forward to the workshop but due to this restriction it has been a major disappointment.
Is there a reason why this restriction is there?
Is there a possibility it would be removed?
I'm sure there are small FC's like ours out there, and i do hope they agree on this.

put a thing up in party finder looking for how ever many people you need, does not have to be people from your FC. Be sure to include those directions to your place as well lol.
It's not ment to be a restriction... it's ment to be a group activity.
4 people is not that big of a deal. -

It is kind of a big deal when you have to halt your progress to wait for some random person in the PF to feel like helping you. It really does seem like it's meant to be a group activity, however it isn't one that had small companies in mind. I have 18 people in mine, 10 active; out of our 10, 3 of us are crafters. I'm online at night, my husband is on only on weekends, and my co-leader is only on for maybe 2 hours a day. It's really a massive inconvenience for us.

it would be a whole lot easier if they removed the auto log out function that way if someone needs to go do something or what not they would just go afk in the workshop but still be there if you need to further progress.
Alternatively being able to progress even if everyone is not actually IN the workshop but just as long as you have 4+ people, as crafters, in a Party. Would sure as hell make recruiting someone whos not in your FC a whole lot easier because just giving directions to your house to someone who has never been can be difficult. -

I did the afk thing using my husband's account and it worked well if you don't account for having to move him around a lot to keep him from auto-logging lol. But my ward stays pretty empty so shouting about never does any good. I've tried the city-states, but everyone asked for payment.

That's the exclusivity thing. Not every company has millions of gil to throw away paying greedy people to do us a favor. Having this lockout helps no one and it doesn't stop companies from doing this as a group project if they choose to. The fact is, small companies exist. "Full or Light party required to proceed" is the most annoying, useless thing they could have done with this. Yeah, I'd love to make new friends. But I'm on a weird schedule as is, I don't do raids and extremes, and most of my time is only spent with my company. TL;DR, companies who can and choose to can easily maintain that company activity, but those who can't shouldn't be forced to rely on strangers who don't /actually/ want to help in the first place.

There is another overwhelming fact that you're missing too. Fuel costs FC points. If there is only a couple of you in the fc you're going to be hardpressed to maintain one airship let alone 4. There's also going to be content that will only be accessible through airships. Special zones with unique hunts and gathering nodes. If I'm right with the impressions SE has given over the past couple years, you will need disciples of war & magic to protect these gatherers. If you can't fill a party for this airships aren't going to be worth your time.

Ok so have u ever tried DOING THE MATH and MAKING ALL MATERIALS beforehand?
I do this solo and with a bud before ( we are on enterprise airship ). After we make all the stuff, i call fc members to come fill in the light party so that WE CAN FEED ALL THE MATERIALS IN ONE GO. THUS NOT MAKING PPL HAVE TO WAIT BEFORE WE CAN MAKE THE OTHER MATERIALS.
Its called planning ahead.
Also maybe airships wasn't designed for mini fcs. Maybe making friends is an option too cuz u know its an mmo. -

Yes, we make all our materials before hand. But again, three of my members are crafters, and paying some rando in the party finder to keep us from halting progress is ridiculous. And yes, it's a social game, but again inviting randos isn't a fun method of finding valuable people to be a part of your company. And not everyone wants to have 60+ members, and not everyone wants to craft. This is a ridiculous policy and not having it in place doesn't take away from anyone else's game play. It just makes sure larger companies get to do something and smaller companies don't.

Precisely. No one loses out on anything at all if that restriction isn't in place. It's still a company activity. Except those of us in smaller companies will be able to do more without relying on paying people, whether paying them for their time or buying the components.

There are valid arguments for both sides. A group driven content is a good thing (we're playing MMO after all), but it should not exclude small FCs completely. They have it hard enough since all mats are gathered by 1-2 players.
How about removing party restriction, but giving crafting parties a bonus, like higher chance of "Outstanding" progress? -

That actually sounds like a fantastic compromise! Gathering and crafting is no issue for my company, since together our three crafters are omni-crafters and gatherers. It's finding a party that makes things hard on my company, and I know there are even smaller companies that feel the restrictions a lot harder than we do. And on the days we /do/ have enough members online or a friend that has time to help, a nice bonus would be a great benefit.
