Arm Of the Destroyer....Still the same.

Hey everyone this is my first post/thread and im a little nervous so please forgive any stupid mistakes lol. Anyways when I Play a job I Like to use every skill as effectivly as possible, but Arm of the Destroyer makes that hard for me cuz it has the highest tp costs of all your skills, it has a potency of 50 for a 1 sec silence. if you want to stun a enemy why not use steel peak or shoulder tackle why waste the tp to use Arm of the destroyer on 1 enemy? I was wonderin if any of you Monk masters know how I can effictivly use this skill at all? Cuz I see no effective way to use this skill in any rotation or in any situation besides in pvp since it is a huge tp/dps loss. thanks for any tips or advise :)

It's a 50 potency AOE that can replace bootshine if there's a lot of mobs. Can't remember the potency of bootshine off the top of my head (it also auto crits so is basically higher potency), but if there are 6 mobs, Arm is a 300 potency attack that's part of your combo

It's still not worth using because it uses way too much TP for a meager 50 potency. :/
In fact it uses more TP than Rockbreaker which is 130 potency.
So unless you know that you won't be needing your TP anytime soon after that you should think twice about blowing them on Arm of the destroyer.

Only use Arm if you need to silence stuff, really. Or there are seriously like 12 mobs for some reason. 50 potency is seriously half an auto attack, it's really bad. I mean, not one-ilm punch bad, but bad.

Rockbreaker is better in every way, and Elixir Field is just awesome once you get it.

Once you hit level 50+ you'll never use Arm of the Destroyer again unless you want to annoy people inside a city.


Anyone that tells you the silence is worth using is wrong, it's not. You can count the things worth silencing in this game on 1 hand and the PLD/BRD/MCH/NIN will do it, not you.

Arm of Destroyer is still usable for AoE of mobs over5 or 6. Instead of Arm I would very much like to get a revamp of Fist of Wind which is really non-usable.

No, it's not. the TP cost is far too high to make it worth using. You'll run out of TP before the mobs die. Keeping up your normal rotation with rockbreaker is superior in basically every situation.


If you want math, Bootshine is essentially a ~220 potency hit (scaling/higher with crit) thanks to the autocrit, for 60 TP. AotD on 5 targets is 250 potency for 130 TP. It's trash.

Well, while it drains too much of your TP, it's still usable when clearing trash that dies fast...

That being said, I really wish they would decrease the TP by a ton. It's just a 50 potency AoE, so I don't see why it couldn't be around the same TP cost as single target skills.

I tried using Arm of the Destroyer on big pulls along with RockBreaker. I was out of TP in no time and nothing was close to dead.

First off let me thank everyone for your opinion, I agree that arm of the destroyer would be useful against 5,6 or even 20 mobs for damage but I got 2 complaints, is 50 potency worth 130 tp when u have elixir field, Rockbreaker, and howling fist that all damage groups of enemies for more potency and less tp? 2 you would have to spam Arm of the destroyer 3 or 4 times to even have any hope of doing any real aoe damage at all so u just wasted 390tp or 520tp in literally 3 or 4 seconds and u wasted precious time on your greased lightning stacks. And what I hope is that some moves in the Monks toolkit get worked on in a patch (im looking at fist of wind and arm of the destroyer).

I actually do use fist of wind sometimes, but it's mostly for movement in dungeons. One-Ilm Punch is just permanently off my bar because it also takes a lot of TP for a very niche use.

Arm is... yeah, arm is bad. Replaced it's slot on my bar with Form Shift.

Elixir field has been doing amazing for me so I personally don't mind Arm of the destroyer being that weak anymore, now it's really not to be considered as an aoe but just a silencer, maybe pop it when they are +10 mobs but yeah i only use it when i know I can silence. People say they take off those 'useless' abilities off their hotbar but i can still find use for them even if rare and few.

Well when you consider the raptor form to get to rockbreaker the potency isn't great for the TP either. Anymore potency on aod and then rockbreaker would need to be buffed but then with perfect balance rockbreaker would be op. Just to explain cause I don't feel that was clear. If aod was buffed then the potency loss from using a none aoe move on you raptor form would be a dps loss. You would spam aod until gl needs to be refreshed.
Although thinking about it now that could be kinda cool

AotD passes bootshine in damage at 5 enemies but doesnt catch up to tp efficiency until 10 , so its trash and should almost never be used for aoe. Rockbreaker on the other hand passes demolish in damage at 3 and efficiency at 5, so it's great for aoe. While I wouldn't make them buffing AotD, I doubt they ever will, less monk aoe become too powerful, as it's currently already third highest due to elixir field and much more sustainable than it was before thanks to purification.

Only place to use Arm of the Destroyer is in PVP, just Pefect Balance and stand on top of a white mage and spam it to be annoying more than proficient. Other than that... yeah it's just I'll be the hero mode and lose dps lol.
