Can we get a better downloader?

This issue is probably taken cared of in another thread so, I beg your pardon.

I know there is two different ways to download patches. The normal way which is extremely slow, and then there is the torrent way. Some friends don't trust torrent but, sadly it seems much faster.

Is this being resolved?

They have no plans for an updated downloader. If you can torrent the files, I suggest you do so x

I'm just concern about my friends that is getting this game next week. I know downloading the files via torrent can be a little complicated at first if you place the files in the wrong location.

honestly.. just have them open ports and it will be all good for the regular downloader..

imo, they need to look into improving the download client, it's problematic when it takes 3+ hours to download even a minor update, and it only hurts people's first impression of the game.

I've done 3 fresh installs of ffxiv in the past 3 days. Each one completely patched in about an hour, patched from scratch. I don't see a real problem with it.

Maybe because it takes longer because everyone is trying to download the patch at once like the moment after maintenance is over and the patch is released.

What torrent site are they located? and is it a matter of downloading the updated files only and copying them in to the right folder?

It's always downloaded extremely fast for me via the standard patcher... am I doing something wrong? ???

Not always.

Right after patch no matter how it's distributed, it's gonna be slow as hell.

And the downloader downloads hte torrents, you can retrieve them and load htem in your torrent client and it usually goes faster, but I haven't had to do that in months, it's been good lately.

Yeah it was terrible around launch and I had to get the torrent manually. I haven't had to do that in nearly a year though..

When I first got the game and patched it up it took hours and hours to finally finish downloading everything. The last patch didn't take very long at all though. Guess a lot of it depends on the bandwidth.

Used to take me hours to download the patches till I opened my ports, to be fair, I know not everyone can forward/trigger ports, but IF YOU CAN DO IT! DONT CHICKEN OUT!
