So, theres people that have gotten every craft and every gathering to 60 along with maybe one or two battle jobs. I think I work pretty hard in the game but how the heck are they doing this so fast? Maybe I'm not working as hard as I think lol

In HW you can turn in collectables, which give REALLY A LOT of exp (up to 1m for a turn in I think?).
They're likely filthy rich in-game and have a lot of time on their hands. They're also probably skipping every cutscene and not enjoying the story as well...which will, eventually, lead to major burn out in my opinion. Each to their own though I guess...
I have a friend who is very close to leveling all her crafters. She did the story first, didn't skip anything, but she is mainly a crafter.
She did have a buttload of gil saved specifically for HW, not to mention she gathers as well (I've also helped her gather some).
Some people just love crafting. Personally it drives me nuts so I just gather, haha.
Grandmaster of the Hand and the Land reporting in. I just got my first combat class to 60 today, enjoying every word in the MSQ and sidequests. The writing is magnificent.
1. GC Daily Supply Missions. I got 1.6mil exp from one turn-in that was bonus star flagged while turning in HQ items. Between levels 51-59 the exp you get per doh/dol class you get is between 600k-1.6mil while turning in HQ items 300k-800k for NQ items. These reset every 24 hours.
2. Available for exchange for GC seals. Survival and Engineering Manuals that boost exp gained for DoL and DoH classes for up to 40k exp, Comes in 2 variations "I" and "II." I imagine GC seals are highly available due to the FATE grinding going on in coethras and N.Thanalan.
3. When you reach level 55 in DoL and DoH, you gain access to scrip turn-ins in Mor Dhona. Quite a chunk of exp to be attained from this new feature. You might as well, as important Master books related to level 60 recipes are only available through this feature.
4. Post 3.0, all crafts and dol's have a new level 50 class specific quest added, completing these quests give you a super charged Survival/Engineering manual that you should not pass up. boosts exp gained up to 350k bonus exp per use, you get 8 total for completing all the DoH and 3 for the DoL's
5. Job specific quests. They reward a lot of exp. The level 58 job quests for DoH and DoL awarded about 440k exp don't skip these, especially the DoL's they also grant you access to new traits.
And don't forget about the Ixal's "Deliverance" quest. Quite a bit of exp to get to at least Level 55 especially if the item has a Star.
This thread made me LOL (in a good way) because this is exactly how my FC members react whenever I reach Level 60 with a crafter or gatherer. I got CUL and FSH to 60 first and I am now using them to farm scrips, which in turn will give nice items for my other crafters and gatherers. I got LTW to 60 and I am working on WVR, MNR and BTN.
No I don't have a lot of time in my hands, I work 7am to 6pm. No I don't have a crapton of gil, I only had 1.5m when Heavensward started. No I didn't burn through cutscenes, I even take 10 to 15 minutes to read the dialogue. I don't read leveling guides, I'm just efficient with what resources I have and have noted things as I played (the GC turn ins, deliverance, collectables, etc)
But in the end, I am able to do this because it's a pace that I am used to. I multitask a lot and when I run out of things to do, I help other people out with things they have to do. To each their own so don't worry about other people's progress; enjoy the game at your own pace! ^^
I've done GC dailies since expansion and have cul to 57, other DoH to 58, fish to 59, btn/min at 60. I haven't done collectables, spent gil on it, or bought more manuals than quests give. GC dailies are awesome.
With the collectability requirement being so low (on BTN anyway) at 240, doing the first one any time the node is up is well worth doing in additiona to your leves. I was doing a 3-collect in 2.0 BTN (Actual 2.0, not 2.x, Plain Rauni, minimal melds to hit 600GP, HQ quality Botanists x gear) gear and it was worth buckets of EXP. Do two leves, leg it to the node, gather, head back for more leves, repeat and hand in like 20 at once when you get too many to comfortably carry.
Admittedly, I had few leves left though as I'd hammered through ALC 10-50 in the kast hours of ARR in the hopes the specialisations would make levelling just a few crafts viable. (They didn't. :/)
Crafter's to 60. Advice:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Only use Levequests and your Engineering II manuals from 58-60. These are limited resources that should be spent during the most expensive / grindy levels to save time and gil.
- In that same manner do all the level 50 Crafting job quests asap for your 24 Engineering II Manuals.
- Ignore the level 52 and 55 Crafting quests until you are ready for the level 58 quest. The exp from those three quests combined take a nice chunk of exp out of a more difficult level.
- Try not to waste your rested exp on level 50-55 jobs.
- Toss enough gil at Collectables and Leve's and you can get three crafts to 60 in a single day. It's all about how much you are willing to spend on overpriced mats.
- You earn double exp when you hand-in an HQ Leve. Put's your 100 Leve maximum to far more efficient use.
- Cooking is the cheapest craft to level up. Using Leve's, Engineering manuals, and rested exp on this craft is a huge waste. Use those on far more expensive crafting levels that use Adamantite Ore, Holy Water, Dragon Leather, or on days when there's just no semi-cheap Collectable to hand-in.
Grandmaster of the Hand here, along with two DoLs at 60 (fishing will be easy whenever I get around to it) and two battle classes at cap. Leves and Grand Company turn ins made up the bulk of my exp. When a GC request yields a bonus that day, you can easily gain upwards of 1.8m exp from the turn in that day, so getting a few of those when your crafting jobs are nearing cap is a huge boon. Collectibles are also a huge help, as there's no limit on how many times you can do them like there is on leves, and some of them are pretty light on materials; marron glace pretty much singled handedly carried my CUL from 58 to 60, as well as bought me nearly all my Master III books (protip: the ALC book is garbage, save it for last if you even bother at all). I don't have any huge secrets regarding the process, but it was quite helpful that a lot of the leve and GC requests were things given out through questing and HQ versions at that. I bought a lot of things from the market board purely for level fodder, and some of it was quite cheap since people didn't know yet.
As for battle classes, no secret there. MSQ for my DPS class, dungeon spam on my healing class. And for what it's worth, I didn't skip any cut scenes during the MSQ.
Protip: get a few retainers to max level battle class. Their regular hunt ventures can farm 10+ materials an hour each. I have 2 retainers that farm dragon hides, often bringing in 20 HQ hides total per hour. By the time I log in, do daily hunts, and roulettes, I have about 60 or more hides waiting to be crafted, or sold for profit.
Crafting and Gathering classes really do level fast, if you're smart about it. A little TOO fast, for my comfort, to be honest; I like to enjoy the leveling process by doing things like crafting one of every item and doing every Guildleve - but a couple weeks of crafting Grand Company turn-ins, and suddenly my Goldsmith is level 57 and the rest of my crafts are 53+. Aside from crafting a few stacks of materials, I haven't really focused on my crafting jobs, and they're already that high. I haven't crafted a single collectable (I really gotta get to work on those scrips!), or done even one Guildleve. If I were to truly sit down and focus on crafting, I'd likely have them all to 60 now, as well.
For someone who has only leveled blacksmith to about 24, how would you recommend levelling from scratch? I'm keen to be relatively self sufficient if possible, so I guess gathering must come first, then the crafting classes.
Most of mine are in the 54-56 range at this point (ARM and CUL excluded). I'm stubborn and refuse to pay for stuff I can craft or gather (MIN and BTN are at 60) myself. >.< That's all been from the GC turn-ins and just casually using a few leves here and there. I'm sure if I put more time and effort into the whole collectable system, they could be a lot higher, but I just haven't had time to dive into that yet.
