Amazing Moments

With all the negativity circling around lately, I thought it would be appropriate to create a thread where players talk about some of their favorite moments they've had when playing FFXIV. Whether these be just getting a great group, seeing some odd player events running around, or even just finally reaching a goal that took you forever to obtain.....

What inspired me to create this thread was the run I just did. I entered the HL Roulette to get my daily tomestone bonus from it, and wound up in Pharos Sirius. We had a bad group at the start. The healer left during the first boss fight, then the Tank DCed right after, and when I and the replacement healer voted to kick the tank, his friend who was the other DPS left as well. We got a replacement DPS right after. Then, with just me as a MCH, the other DPS as a Bard, and our healer as an AST, we proceeded to clear the entire dungeon without a tank. We wiped on the bosses a few times, but we managed to take them down. While not exactly the biggest of feats, the sense of accomplishment at having cleared the dungeon with only three people, (and not using the "pre-formed party" stuff added in the patch obviously), was quite enjoyable.....

But this did make me want to hear about other players tales of glory and hilarity as well, so if you want to share one, please do so below.... :)

As a Marauder, I was running out of TP once, with 100 left. But then it got replenished to 1000 because I leveled up.

My friend and I took down Shiva HM by ourselves. He healed, I tanked.
Especially fun because I never tank. I think we wiped about three times before we finally found a pattern that worked.
It took maybe twenty minutes after that. Shiva got to 16 stacks too....

My most epic moment was when I ended Alex Turn 2 with my Machinist LoS limit break 3, Satellite Beam, to kill both bosses at once before they self-destructed. The hype was real.

Mog EX for the first time. I'm killed just as King starts charging his big wipe move. DPS/healers going nuts, with one healer waiting on swift cast to raise me. Swift cast charges, fires off raise, just as we fail the DPS check. King wipes everyone as I'm raising.

It's not a wipe! King starts charging the move a second time, I'm the only one alive, haul butt over to him, pop every CD I have and burn the last bit of hp he has for the win.

Back in the day when T7 (SCOB T2) was a thing. before the nerfs. I was tanking an add and then used Circle of Scorn. A Renaud pop'd just in time to receive some love form that skill and inmediatly tethered me. The add was still alive, as it just pop'd too. I turned on HG, kitted the Renaud while tanking the add and got back to my position. With all the movement, the third add pop'd already too so I had to grab it asap before it killed the WHM. It was really exciting. I offered myself to kite in the future as a PLD but my request was declined. :(

most recently for me is in trials roulette. ultros fight.

not all of the dps were able to fill up as imps during the fight, so typhon uses his wipe ability...except for the fact

a monk shoulder tackled to cancel the push-back perfectly. needless to say we won.


one of the first few clears i had of turn 1 (back well before 2.1 hit) we did the kite method from 35% until death.

last 5 percent i HG, and almost last the final part of it, die. off-tank dies, and a bard manages to kill the snake before it reaches the healers.

Had a similar crazy moment while hunting marks for the list. Killing one in the Hinterlands on my level 55 (at that time) DRK, kill one only for another to aggro me. Another one aggros me during this and it looks like I'm about to die...then the 2nd monster dies, leveling me so I can take on the 3rd one at full power.

I love it when that happens when using a phys att class. Alternately is true when MP is running out and you level.

Before even finishing 2.0 story line as a SMN, new to MMOs, total noob, have no clue what I'm doing - queue AV with some FC members for my GC rank having never run it before. We get to Coincounter and the other three die to his swing attack - healing myself with Physick when he pauses to charge an attack and using Bio, Energy Drain, and Ruin II, I kite him from 52% to dead.

My best moment? Well, that happens when I was doing Bismarck hard for the first time in the story. So this will have heavy story spoilers up to that point.

I was feeling pretty bad what with Haurchefant dying in a cutscene like an hour prior to that. He was like one of my favorite characters, and we all know how important a figure he was- I could go into it, but that's not what this topic is about. I zoned into a df for Bismarck hard, and who was my tank for that pug?

HAURCHEFANT FORTEMPS

but not just anyone named Haurchefant Fortemps. A level 60 paladin who looked exactly like him, had the Of the Silver Fuller title, and drank hot chocolate before the pull. Someone sees him and goes "F**K YOU" because y'know, their best friend just died half an hour ago. But what does our Haurchefant say?

"Oh, do not look at me so. A smile better suits a hero..."

The other tank decides he just can't take this, announces as such, and jumps off the edge of the island. Haurchefant shouts "Look out!" and jumps off after him. Everyone else immediately jumps after him because by now all pretenses of having our crap together are gone. When everyone respawns?

"You... you are unharmed? Forgive me, I could not bear the thought..."

We just could not handle dead best friend NPC coming back half an hour later to fight primals with us. But the icing on the cake?

Haurchefant Fortemps was the best tank I've ever partied with

He called out instructions on the fight in mid-fight because he knew we had new people, cheered everyone on, offered to hold the adds so we could DPS Bismarck ourselves, used proper cooldowns and was easy on the healers, and even operated the dragonkillers when he could, all while he called us friends, and wished us well on our journey even after the fight had ended. I've never had a tank I appreciated more in a duty finder group than Haurchefant Fortemps.

I swore no one would believe me after that. That one instance has damn near changed the tone of the actual story for me. It's like you get to say goodbye to someone you never got to one more time. And even if it's some joker masquerading as our favorite NPC, he's doing a perfect job of it and I appreciate it more than he could ever know.

Man, people are really cool sometimes.

Was helping a real life friend clear snowcloak for story. She asked me to go as DPS so I could help her manage damage. I went as black mage which wasn't geared super good but since she was a summoner she liked that we would both be in the back line. We got in a party with another new person and a person who had a little experience. Everything went good until Fenrir.

We were having trouble getting everyone to avoid lunar cry. The healer could not learn to run behind crystals despite multiple tries. On our last attempt everyone except me goes down. I'm alone. I limit break and bring him down to 1%. I can do this! Fenrir drops crystals in preparation of lunar cry. I'm thinking my only hope is to kill him now so it doesn't matter if I dodge lunar cry or not. Fire III goes off, the strongest spell I could think of. He's still at 1%. Lunar cry casting bar is at 90%. I'm going to die. What's the fastest spell I have?! SCATHE. Fenrir dies. Killed Fenrir with 1oo Hp with scathe.

My first Bismark run had something similar. I had Godbert freaking Manderville in mine. He looked exactly like him, and we spent a solid five minutes before the run just doing the Manderville dance with him.....
