I think I just suck at crafting...

I finally got my weaver to 60, woot, now want to obtain my master book II that I was unable to get because I just too low level to try. Hmm... well Intricate Silver Brocades only need 374 control and 391 craftsman ship. Well since I'm in the 500s on crafting and have 493 control so I should be fine :D

My rotation consist of Inner Quiet, Ingenuity II, Careful Synthesis II (till close to full synthesis) Steady Hand I (don have II) Hasty Touch till (using Precise Touch unless out of steady hand in which I would use Tricks of the Trade) achieve 20/80 progress, use Master's Mend II, Steady Hand I, Hasty touch, etc. Usually I'd have 9 Inner Quiet stacks and use Byregot's blessing or the next best thing Byregot's Bow. And so far the closest I got was 20% hq and got nq.

Be sure to have GS+ING/INGII+MAN up if possible before popping BB. Also, you will need SHII

Its good to know MB2 is still a bit challenging :p

You know, I keep thinking I can just say I suck at this, but I really REALLY think that this is way harder than it should be. This is 2.x content and I'm now lvl 60. This should be easier, seriously. Makes me wonder if they buffed this item in particular for some reason.

Right now I'm taking Bush's advice and lvling my Culinarian for SteadyHand II.

At 57 I'm seeing, with my stats 214 Progress with a CS2, regardless of whether or not I've got Ing 2 up. So, don't bother to Ing or Ing 2 this recipe, TC. My stats, by the way, are 549 Craft, 516 Control, 358 CP. I'm using all HQ gear, level 55 left side gear, 2.x BiS right side gear(fully melded), level 55 MH tool and level 53 OH tool. The only melds I've put into my left side gear are for CP, so I would not lose CP going from the old Artisan's set. No melds on my tools.

FC3's don't come in HQ, so using the HQ Silver Brocade started me off with 1494 Quality. That should be what you're seeing, right?

Comfort Zone, Inner Quiet, Careful Synthesis 2, CS2, CS2 gets me to 50/80 Durability, one CS2 from finishing. Taking all Tricks procs during that step, I'll use Precise Touch on Goods while Steady Hand 2 is up, unless I'm at 20 durability left. Working Quality, I find myself refreshing Comfort Zone at the 20 Durability mark, hitting Master's Mend 2, and then doing some math. I find I've got 93 CP to play with above and beyond my finisher, that is worth five of the 18 CP moves. Got lucky with a Good at the end, so my 11 stack BBlessing got me 7749 Quality, much more than enough to 100% it. It would have either been 100% without the Good, or in the mid-upper 90's, by my estimation.

I'd say the recipe is fine. You just need to get Steady Hand 2, and to figure out when it is better to take the 20 CP on Tricks, or to spend 18 CP (effectively 38 CP) on Precise Touch.

If I need that much gear to 100%hq a 3 star Item at lvl60 then I think the item has been buffed and need to be brought to a reasonable level. Thnx for the info though.

So,

I just HQed 5 LTW items for the Master 2 book from 0 -> 100% without any problems. Most of the time i had 40-50 CP left and 30-40 durability. Finishing with a Byregot on 11 Stacks with only CP+ melded lvl 60 HQ gear gave me 4.550 quality, thats more then 50% of what is needed. I only used Hasty Touch twice, and to finish it the item it was enough to Rapid Synth + carefuly Synth II x2


My base stats: 641 Craft 608 Control 397 CP - no food or specialist actions used.


You might want to consider leveling every other craft to 50 first. I Had no need for ingenuity/Piece by Piece/Manipulation or what so ever to do this tho.
Just stop being stuck in 2.0 mode and the "HASTY TOUCH TO GAIN STACKS OMFG BBQ!" System. Get your ass to 11 stacks as quick and safely as possible. i.e. use Precise Touch when you got Steady Hand II up asap - the more stacks you get early on the more quality you get on each other touch you land and finish it off with Byregots Blessing. And if you're on a specialized job use Byregot's Miracle (on 6+ Inner Quiet) if you got Steady Hand II up and a Excellent shows.

Crafting a 60 one star is way harder then those old items

While I cannot disagree with that sentiment those items were meant to be difficult.

And TC, I'm NOT especially geared. You can get the same gear I've got, or better, at 60. My rings, earring, necklace, bracelet, can all be gotten as good or better with level 55ish HQ gear, melded to add in a few points of Craft and Control. Make sure that you are keeping your crafts all relatively up to the same level, and make sure that you are gearing yourself as you go along. If you are not keeping up with your gear, then yes, you will have difficulties.

This is helpful, still leaves me to lvling my other crafters just for one book sadly, but thnx. Also gonna point out you have 641 craft and 608 control and doesn't make crafting this any more easier for me. Now onto lvling other crafting classes just to master one. :/

The point of Hasty Touch is to prevent yourself from becoming CP starved while getting the same Touch efficiency as Precise Touch. If you're trying to Precise Touch to push Quality and then try to reserve CP for BB, you might have some trouble(Especially running no Comfort Zone and using Master's Mend)

For these crafts, you'll want to aim for 11 stacks of inner quiet each time. This can be done using a hasty touch approach, but it seems from this video that you're only using a single master mend 2 for durability restores. You'd need to use a combination of mm2 + manipulation/mm1 at the very least (if not 2x mm2). Using steady hands 2 should also, on average, give you an extra stack of inner quiet by the end of the craft.

Also, instead of using only cs2 for progress, try using RS as well (level 15 arm ability). This should make it easier to build 11 stacks of IQ if you're stuck with only a single durability restore.

Using precise touch can reduce the amount of required durability restores, but you have make sure to save enough CP for a decent finisher. I'd say that the biggest issue here is your low base CP, which would make things difficult under any of the possible approaches.

To fit in two master mend skills, you'd want some CP melds, CP food and probably comfort zone, unless you have really high CP. However, this isn't necessarily required anymore if you can minimize the amount of progress steps and use skills like precise touch.

I'd recommend melding your accessories/gear with CP materia until you have around 350 CP at least. Then use a food buff to get to around 400 CP.

If you use rapid synthesis (I think it can knock off around 400 progress, allowing progress to be finished in 3 steps), it should be possible to build 11 stacks of inner quiet even with only a single master mend 2. Under these conditions, precise touch might be required to help, but should be used sparingly (once, maybe twice depending on how many good procs you get; most good procs should be used for tricks of the trade still). Of course, the more times you use tricks of the trade, the higher the chance of getting enough CP for a second durability restore or to use precise touch. A bit of judgement will be required.

For now, I'd stay away from the specialist abilities. From what I've heard, you need a really high pool of CP to benefit from them.

Carpenter makes most of the crafting Heavensward jewelry. Goldsmithing makes most of the ARR crafting (and otherwise, actually) jewelry. So, you're probably better off leveling Carpenter for the Hallowed jewelry than you are leveling Goldsmith for older jewelry.

You wont need CP for more durability if you dont fail hasty touches. With 397 CP and no craft/control melded in HQ60 gear i can get to a chance of 80-95% with only using 1-2 Hasty touch (80% if it fails 95% if it doesnt and depending on how many good i get to precise touch) from NQ materials and only using Basic touches to get to 11 stacks on the rest. When you get CP back from good/excellent when steady hand II isnt up it will be easy enough.

The only time i went back to using Hasty touches to progress and using Tricks only for CP was to HQ some lvl 60 1-star greens. As you need Ingenuity I/II on them to be able to make Byregot work in the end and to get good progress steps that are higher then 120 points (*sigh*)

On everything that has not a star it is easily HQable from NQ mats. Please note: I'm not talking leveling a craft, neither 60 1-star crafting, but crafting with lvl 60 HQ equip on the left side (59 belt, 57 rings, 58 bracelet 59 neck) with only melded CP @ 397 total.

Reaching 100% on anything 51-60 non star craft is childs play if you stop giving in to the Hasty 80% rng crap. If you fail 2 Hasty touches you WILL have a hard time reaching 100% if you don't make enough CP back to get those 20 durability back (which will cost you at least 60CP if you want to restore them). Just Basic/precise touch it to 11 and you get an easy 4000 quality boost in the end. The more stacks you get with precise faster, the more control you have on the following touches otw to 11 IQ stacks, and sometimes 10 or hell even 9 stacks are enough because you got to 20% HQ chance before by touching on goods/excellents. (not to mention a basic touch with 11 stacks is 700+(!) quality)

If i bothered to Meld my gear for control and used food for 40-50 CP it would be possible without ANY hasty touch.

So dont brush it off with "you still need to use it."

no, you don't - 60 non star crafting is trivial and macroable, the same as it was at 2.0 release with anything non star.

When AF gear comes out in 8 days it will be even easier because its i160+ and the stats on the new tools will help a lot. And thats when you can HQ with a macro without any melds other then CP

Its incredibly low. I did not meld CP on the main/offhand. And using 2x CP+2 Materia on everything else can not be considered "high". (except earrings CP+8 and bracelets/neck +7, rings only hold+3) It was extremly cheap to max meld the accessoires. From doing all crafting lvl 60 quests you get 8 IV materia of each kind alone. And i only used them on 3 items b/c the rest could be 100% melded with +2 materia.

And if you look in to the future patches: This is really low. The item lvl of the lvl 60 stuff is 150. You cant even put V materia on it. When red scrips come out in 8 days and we can finally get AF tools/gear that will probably put us close to 700 craft / 650 control - then we can talk about high.

Crafting was and is childs play. Else i wouldnt have been abled to craft the items for 2880 scrip with a macro on my culinarian. If a "programm" can get to 100% HQ 95% of the time, so can everyone else easily (to be fair i had 1/3 of the points for those items always b/c i used 2 HQ mats)

From the chart I saw posted elsewhere on these boards, you can only meld 60 CP total to all of your gear. The rest of it has to come from gear itself.

HQ Hallowed Chestnut Armillae, a level 58 bracelet, has 41 CP on it base. You can add 7 to it, bringing it to 48 - on its own.

397 seems high. And it is much higher than the 355ish I'm used to. But without looking at any other slots, I'd say that it is well within the realm of the achievable. And what else are you going to meld? Craftsmanship? Control? CP is your life's blood as a crafter, that is why Tricks of the Trade, and Comfort Zone, are so dang important.

Im at 368 CP with fully melded left side (as far as CP is concerned) but with old accessories (so im missing 27 CP for not using fully melded 56+)
So 397 CP is pretty much max melded CP apart from tools.
Hence why its not a good idea to consider it ''low stats''.



I would not advise someone to meld x2 CP on level 60 HQ equipment. If going for CP first use a x4 CP materia, so the item doesnt become worthless after the initial meld.

With melding on the main and offhand i could easily reach 413 (2x +4 on both) without problem. But since they arent shared gear i wont waste my time.

And to the fact that CP are your lifeblood - see it that way - to get a stack of Inner Quiet you need to use 10 durability, no matter what. If you get 1 stack with Hasty touch that 10 durability cost you (at the lowest cost per 10 regained from Master's Mend II) 26.666 CP - ok so, you use Tricks of the Trade instead of a Precise Touch, you only get 1 stack instead of 2. Let me sum that up:

To gain 2 IQ Stacks:
Hasty Touch: -10 CP for one Steady Hands II -53.333 CP for the duability for a total of -63.333 and two times a 20% chance that it fails - total of 200% efficiency and 2 IQ stacks
Precise touch: -15 CP from Tricks of the Trade - 26.666 CP for the durability -18CP Precise Touch comes to a total of: -69.666 CP 150% Efficiency and a bonus on ALL your upcoming next touches

Why only -15 CP from Tricks instead of -20? Thats why:
Tricks of the Trade: +20 CP from using the skill -5 CP from loosing one Stack of Steady Hand II - total: +15 CP

To sum it up - if you use Hasty touch you have a rng chance that it fails, if two touches fail you're loosing 57CP compared if you just used a Precise on a Good for those stacks instead.
If you use a Precise on a Good right away at the start you loose out 6.333 GP compared to two "successful" Hasty Touches - but on the other hand you loose the control bonus on all upcomming touches you will be doing further in the craft.

Oh, and never use Tricks on an Excellent... please - 300% Efficiency + 2 Stacks for a total of loosing 6GP - it wont get any cheaper!

You realize the lvl 60 gear on the left is worthless shitty gear that will be replaced as soon as red Scrip are released, yes?

Why meld anything else in it except CP - we do not have ANY reciepes that you can not craft with base stats yet. We will have to see what we need to have to be able to get red scrips. But it makes the gear anything else then "worthless" in the end - because you know - you still can remove those materia for 200g - and i saved 95k by using 2x +2 instead of 1x +4

I stand by my comment that CP is your life's blood. Without CP, you are not doing much.

And no one is debating the use of Precise Touch. Assuming you have those CP to spend, you are far better giving up 38 CP (the difference between gaining 20 CP and spending 18 CP) for two stacks than you are just gaining 20 CP - but that assumes that you have the CP to spend. That's not a guarantee ... especially when someone is trying to do harder recipes with low gear. Which, if I understand correctly, is the reason the TC is having issues in the first place - trying to do a harder recipe without enough CP to do the job right.

Hallowed Ramie Doublet (of whatever), a typical level 57 recipe : 808 Progress, 6820 Quality, 70 Durability
Chimerical Felt Cap (of whatever), a typical level 58 recipe : 863 Progress, 7080 Quality, 70 Durability
Chimerical Felt (hose, breeches, whatever of whatever), a typical level 59 recipe : 919 Progress, 7339 Quality, 70 Durability
Bladed Steel Jig (the only level 60 recipe I could find other than food in my books) : 956 Progress, 7851 Quality, 70 Durability

Notice something there? A 3 star recipe is harder by a long shot than a 4 star recipe ... is on par Progress-wise with a level 56 recipe, and level 60 recipes don't even approach the amount of Quality needed. TC already far exceeds the Craftsmanship and Control of the recipe he trying to do - its his CP that was the problem. CP is a crafter's life's blood - you need it to do your craft, you run out you're done.

I know, just wanted to underline the fact that Hasty Touch is not the Holy Grail of Moves anymore and that Tricks is now just situational and not mandatory anymore (except on 60 1-star recipes *sigh*, gotta love rng)

Tricks always was situational. Its just that the situation usually called for hitting it rather than hitting Basic, Standard, or Advanced Touch. Now, there is a move, Precise Touch, that is very much a contender, depending on the situation. Sorry, but I'm not going to hit Precise when the Condition goes GOOD or EXCELLENT right after my opening Comfort Zone.

Hasty was always the move to use when you needed to conserve your CP. One goal has always been to replace all Hasty with Basic, to remove the RNG from the rotation. So, no, Hasty was never the Holy Grail. It was the path we took to try to get to the Holy Grail.

Case in point, for "situational" ... with my stats for ALC (namely, 549 Craft, 516 Control, 358 CP), it takes me three CS2's to make one Hallowed Water. My normal pattern goes Comfort Zone, Inner Quiet, Careful Synthesis 2, Steady Hand 2, Waste Not, Hasty Touch, Hasty Touch, Careful Synthesis 2, Hasty Touch, Manipulation, Steady Hand 2, Waste Not, Hasty Touch, Hasty Touch, Hasty Touch, Hasty Touch, Steady Hand, Great Strides, Innovation, Byregot's Blessing, Careful synthesis 2. I am limited by the SH2->WN combo for when I can take a Tricks, but I'm also limited by my CP, and cannot take any Precise Touch unless I've had a Tricks previously. I can play around with exactly where that middle CS2 goes, I like to use it there because that way I'm not using a Hasty on a Poor or using CS2 on a Good/Excellent.

That may not be the best rotation, it is an adaptation of a rotation that gets me 9 Touches on a 35/40 Durability item if I can finish it in one Synth move. But its the best I could come up with.

Yeh, but many times the rng of hasty bit you in the arse and you had to use it all the time to 10/11 stacks because it failed so often and you barely could make up for the lost durability. Now we have an efficient way to get the stacks without relying on a 80% chance move that could go horribly wrong (given you got enough CP, as you said ^^)

And if you're specialized on a craft you even can use Byregot's Miracle (Efficiency 100%+10% per IQ stack) to halve your IQ stacks which is really good at 6/7 stacks if you get an excellent and you do not want to give up using BB at the end for 7/8 stacks too.

I didn't use specialized actions much yet because most crafts are so easy, but when 2-star recipes are out we will finally see the full potential of the new skills.
Can't wait to be fully melded at 650-675 base control and having 450-470 CP with food. Imagine what you can do with that :O Combine that with the use of delineations to increase the procrate of goods showing - oh my ;3

If you are in an FC get the crafting buffs as well, that extra 10 control and craft always helps
