Can't go to it any more. Its gone. Why? Is it because of the pedo bear pics?
Its pretty irrelevant. They couldn't make playable children regardless because of Legal issues no matter how much players wanted it. They outright stated that.
Sigh... no, it's not JUST about the attire or the roleplay. It's about the blood and the violence as well. Again, some countries have laws about violence against children, real or not. It's why other game companies don't put children in their games or make said children immortal and invulnerable. And these countries can, will and have banned games from their shores over it.
It deserved to be gone. Let's just forget it happened.
Some countries have very strict 'violence against children' laws, and videogame makers have been having to tiptoe around that for years because videogames tend to have you fighting things.
I don't get why people keep saying it's about violence about children. There is seriously a quest in FFXIV where you fight children.
meanwhile in the nasuverse...
i'm not sure if it was the pedobears or the "look ma, no clothes!" or maybe "why is the WoL a ten-year-old?!? where are their parents?"
and lightning punches hope in ffxiv
and ellie is shot bitten and had to fight off a canibal who 'wanted' her.
in fact theres a lot of violence against children in video games,
headspace with the exploding babies and children that were turned into necromorphs.
as for JRPGMMOS theres the ... i forget what there called but there like miqo'tes that everyone RPed as. ellin?
still i think it was mostly of the people who were a bit sick in the mind to automatically assume the things people should never talk about >...> and the fact that hijacked the whole thread after 8 pages,
Why, exactly, do people want to play as children so badly?
It's Korean. There's a difference.
And you can still be cute and not be a kid. That's the part we're not understanding. Why do they have to be "children"? Becuase that's what's being advocated.
I'm all down for cute. Hell I'd kill for something adorable that didn't look like a sack of potatoes. Sorry, lalas are adorable, but that body shape just... I can't do it.
To answer why some people like playing as kids: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KidHero < Basically this.
And the cute factor also, but that's about the extent of it. Kids in real life suck and are a waste of organs xD
I didn't delete it, that's for sure.
Not sure if I regret making the thread though.
thankyou mods
it was for the better
I honestly don't know why people are so eager to play children...? Like you have 'cute' races already..
One other issue is that it's just EASIER in a game this size with a customizable avatar to make the characters fully grown men and women. It widens the scope of what you can do with said characters and it's simpler for a script.
People will call you a man or a woman when you see them and refer to you and interact with you as if you were an adult. Some of the NPCs flirt with you, too. Usually it's pretty vague but sometimes it's...not so subtle.
I think THIS is more the problem since it was said legal issues were involved. There is a hell of a lot of sexual tension between the PC and several NPCs (even just sidequest NPCs that have nothing to do with the story). So if we got children as a playable characters that would be a lot of dialogue they'd have to change and re-write.
Which truthfully I wish they would do that anyway so that each race was a bit more specialized (like since Au Ra face discrimination, it's a bit odd that people in the ARR quests don't give a chocobo tail feather what you are) when doing the story. But since they've shown they don't even want to do that, I doubt they'd be willing to do so for kid characters. And thus they pull the legal card.
For example, that one quest where the bathing Mi'qote ladies ask you to drive away peeping toms. I don't think they'd take a child seriously threatening them. I don't know what that quest giver says to male PCs, but at least to females she also reveals she has zero problems with you watching her instead. "Bet you didn't think I swung that way, did you~?" Again...that probably wouldn't go well. So that's one quest that would either have to be left out or completely redone.
All I can say is good riddance. Nothing good would ever come of playable children. One look at TERA or B&S is all you need to prove that.
Uhm seriously that thread was creepy..
There's a difference between teens and children. (even though there are teens that do act like children and there are children that are more mature beyond their years)
I guess the assumption of a 10 and under is because that's what a child is. 10 and under.
I think if we were aiming towards teenagers being playable title of the thread should be 'Playable Teens' or 'Why can't we play as teenagers?'
I think it's weird that every thread about this jumps straight to "pedophilia." Like that's the first thing that everyone thinks of whenever children are mentioned.
Maybe the thread was deleted because of that Wedding picture.. It shouldn't be a problem if it was 2 lala in that.
I can't really say if it's because of the violence against children and whatnot, or maybe that the NPC interactions tend to lean more on the adult side. Handling of alcohol and innuendo come to mind. Rubbing down Godbert and Hildy too. Plus I don't think it would be very fitting for the plot to have a kid/teen being the savior of the realm. I mean unless they make Padjal playable somehow, I doubt we'll be able to play characters younger than adults (~18). Hybrids of lalafells may be possible, but... *shudders*
Also there are more pressing matters at hand!
Why do Lalafells have better facial hair than the other races? I mean look at derplander males, I hesitate to call theirs facial hair. My guy looks like he's 15, it's hardly peach fuzz!
And highlander eyebrows? Where are they!? Manthras don't even have facial hair! And Elezen? Hardly any by comparison! Why do Lalas get all the hair!? They're hording it all, aren't they!? Can't trust them as far as you can throw them... :P
I could kinda see it working from an RP standpoint since many characters in cartoons are children but it'll likely be turned into a joke and would be strange in an mmo setting, especially one marketed in several regions around the world.
EDIT: oh and erp is a thing in mmos.
This has never been an issue in Mabinogi and it's been available since like 2003. Also it doesn't have blood. Neither does FFXIV.
Here's a mind breaker for you. You can get gay-married in Mabinogi, as two 10 year old girls or boys. You can also have a family consisting of nothing but 10 year olds.
There is nothing illegal about it. The only reason games shy away from this is because of overbearing "childporn" laws and Roleplayers who take advantage of the fact that the video game is "real enough" for them. I'll post this again:

The point is, there will always be bad actors, and keeping your game away from them will never be possible. Look at how little of a dent SE makes into getting rid of RMT.Quote:
Accusations Regarding Child Pornography in Second Life
by Honored Resident Robin.Linden on 05-10-2007 05:32 AM
What’s going on?
On Thursday May 3, we were contacted by German television network, ARD, which had captured images of two avatars, one that resembled an adult male and another that resembled a child, engaged in depicted sexual conduct. Our investigations revealed the users behind these avatars to be a 54-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman. Both were immediately banned from Second Life.
During a subsequent interview with ARD’s Report Mainz documentary on Friday May 4, which aired Monday, the reporter presented photographs that he said were found in Second Life and that appeared to include sexual photographs involving a child.
...
If you give players the option to play as children, the first thing you do is make sure the body is fused with the gear so modders can't "declothe" them. The second thing you do is remove "offensive" emotes that could be misconstrued as sexual acts.
In Mabinogi there was a "pelvic thrust" part of a certain animation, and because you could interrupt all the emotes with another emote by rapidly firing them off, it gave the impression of grinding into other players. There was also a way to interrupt the "resting" animations to make it look like your character was tea-bagging the another player that is sitting down. These kinds of people will always exist.
And quite honestly, being an asshat online has far more reaching negative consequences for your existing and potential future careers, that people who go around spreading "mmololicon" images are likely to get their ass kicked for realsies by anyone who makes that connection in the media to the real person.
"The thread about children playable deleted?"
Yup. And now it's time for this thread to be deleted...
I rather SE just hotfix the height bar from the smallest Lalafell to the highest Roegadyn.
