If you must insist on repetition, DON'T DO THIS (Terrible design choice in Alex raid)

I'm talking about Alexander floor 4. Burden of the Father.
I'm talking about Quarantine.

I'm talking about the world's stupidest mechanic where I am constantly, CONSTANTLY tossed into a fast moving tunnel to deal with an add.
Now, dealing with the add isn't the problem. Suddenly being pulled from the fight and sent tumbling through this tunnel is the problem.


It gives me motion sickness. I makes me dizzy and unbalances me. I am highly sensitive to fast motion, and it happens during this fight again and again and again.
You make a design where I'm expected to repeat this fight till I win, then repeat this fight till I win a roll, then repeat this fight again next week and the week after if I want gear progress, and you want me to go through this vomit comet constantly throughout the fight?

ONCE would be fine. ONCE I could deal with. But this? This is making me sick for the unforgivable crime of being melee dps. Or something.
I can only guess I'm suffering terrible bad luck to be the dps selected for this incredibly stupid bass ackwards mechanic almost every time. I do pity the off tanks who are guaranteed to have to go through this idiocy every single time.

Yeah I don't care if the devs don't read this. Somebody has to tell them, somehow to remove this mechanic. IT IS LITERALLY MAKING ME SICK.

It's not just you. I've had a problem with this at some point in the tower with the Scylla fight with a certain combination of colors and it hurts my eyes. The constant being pulled around can definitely give you motion sickness because of how fast things are moving around.

The mechanic is the tank with the lowest enmity OT+ one random DPS go through the tube. If you queue preformed with 1 tank the 2 random DPS go through the tube. If it was you almost every time, The RNG hates you. I only assume it's random DPS and not the 2 highest threat DPS or highest damage DPS as a BRD was victim with me the OT quite a few times.

Healer/dps combo can be picked as well only happened once so i am sure something threw a wrench in the selection method but it did happen. Was a 2 tank party and no one was floor tanking at the time.

Learn to adapt, focus away from screen when you get pulled in, count how long it takes to go through tunnel and open eyes when you know you'll be out.

Notice yourself with the quarantine stat, count the time it takes to go through, next time close your eyes go 1-2-3-4 and then open them when you know you'll be out, that should help with the motion sickness.

Why exactly should I learn to adapt around an incredibly stupid, overly done mechanic?
Especially when most groups demand I state when I am sucked in for the purposes of add management, so I can't look away and focusing on the chat window doesn't help.

This is just all part of another problem with the overall design of boss mechanics; some are repeated to the point of tedium. Much like the robots launching in Fist of the Father.
Spam is never a good thing, no matter who does it. Though at least THAT mechanic doesn't make me physically ill.

I wish some super tech would just teleport you in or something. The vacuum tube is more thematically appropriate but I can see how it would give the woozies to someone sensitive to motion.

Also I am selfish and it likes to suck me up riiiight as I am using Blizz 4 and I end up losing Enochian.

Haven't done the fight OP, but i did notice it. the mechanic looks really disorienting. i don't suffer from motion sickness myself (while gaming at least), but it is a really out of place mechanic on a game that prides itself off accessibility.

i would rather have it fade to black ala Cerberus as it pick you up. that way they can give it the feel of being sucked up by a vacuum tube.

Haven't had a problem yet and I OT it every time (I have a blast doing it). Though I don't get "motion sickness", I haven't thought how it could effect others. :(

I think the accessibility you are referring to is the fact that the game is on multiple platforms. Honestly, I found the mechanic disorientating but really fun. OP I hate that you are getting sick but I doubt they will be changing it so might want to find a way to fight thru it. The other poster was right try not to focus to hard on the screen when it happens and you should be fine.

The mechanic is like naked atm, all of alex is. Basically existing in a vacuum. I can already see in alex savage, the tank taking a brutal amount of damage from the add, so therefore he wont be able to cheat the orbs with cds and might have to keep them for the add? and the healer will have to have tanks topped up for when they get sucked away, so mini healer check too, and a dps check too, because they will have to get back asap in alex savage ( obvious assumption ) all in all I think it's brilliant.

Why exactly should they limit their creativity because an EXTREMELY SMALL percentage of people might get motion sickness from it?

This must just be a very small amount of people. I get motion sick easily myself, but I never get sick when pulled through the tunnel. I'm not sure why either, I think because it happens so fast, it's less than 3 seconds to be thrown into the room. That's not enough time for me to get motion sick. 5 seconds, however...

I don't get motion sickness from it, but I do get frustrated with it. I'm essentially either immobile or fighting a single, weak enemy for 2/3rds of the first two phases. It isn't very fun.

Its SE's fault you have motion sickness? What?

Motion sickness and gaming in general are not things which go well together and those that suffer because of it are a small percentage. Developers cater to everyone not a small amount of people plus they want to be creative with the look of the game it's like being sucked into a water slide or something. The animation doesn't even last that long anyway. I've found listening to relaxing music while playing games helps a lot. The noise from games can often make me feel more sick.

I think the oppressor robots launching into the sky (and the being sucked into tunnel) look really awesome and I like seeing them lots of times. I empathise with your motion sickness, but don't call the animation stupid just because you personally have a very specific issue with it.

This is my favorite fight off all the floors. The reactions in ts by the dps is priceless. The first time our BLM got sucked in he thought his game glitched. It's funny because it always happens after putting down his runes too. It's just such a troll mechanic. I love how creative these fights are. Really looking forward to savage.

As someone who primarily OTs, I don't really have much of a problem with this part of the fight. Sure, it means I can't go absolutely berserk on the boss until phase 3, but it's an interesting little mechanic that encourages vigilance over autopilot, which is always nice.

What I don't like, however, is how I can't leave to quarantine for 5 seconds without the entire party falling apart by time I get back.

Because that is how things are done. There is special consideration to flashing and light sequences in most video games due to the propensity of them triggering epileptic reactions. While Tubing with Alex isn't one of those considerations, if they get enough complaints they might change it. That is if they get enough Complaints.

In the mean time I suggest the OP does as suggested and if they want to continue to do A4, then they should learn the time it takes to go through the tube and close their eyes for the duration of the travel.

the whole floor is stupid... the boss is to damn big takes up the whole damn screen can't see nothing in that floor man

I Don't how many time's I've gone Tubing and come back to a Dead party with the DPS and I just going.... the hell happened out here?

I actually quite like this mechanic. Maybe queue as a healer or MT the fight until/if ever SE changes this?

I cannot believe people are coming into a post talking about "this makes me physically ill" and their response is "get over it / go do something else / try calming music / it doesn't bother ME".

Oh wait, this is the internet. Yes I can.

(I have a feeling I won't like this when I get around to the mechanic either.)

Motion sickness is common in gamers. It isn't something the OP can just "get over". Square-Enix has done a good job with accessibility already. They even received an award! I feel that the OP deserves to have this concern acknowledged. How else can S-E fix the problem if they don't know it exists?

While I do agree that perhaps people being facetious in response to OP was a little over the top, I wouldn't go as far to say as OP wasn't asking for it. Everyone can express an opinion, and there are ways to go about it that can promote two different types of responses. I feel OP went about it the wrong way if they didn't want people being snippy because the impression I had from the core of this discussion (the original post) was a snippy attitude. You can't ask for a thread to derail into a positive thing when it starts incredibly negative.

As for accessibility, I do agree to an extent. SE can't limit themselves to every minority of ailment as this greatly cuts into creativity. Sad as it is, severe epileptics probably don't play this game because they probably have a good idea of how flashy it is. One movement mechanic in a raid is setting off your motion sickness? I'm sorry, there are plenty of people who play this game who also don't suffer from gaming motion sickness so why would SE not create content that can have fewer limitations?

Plus there's the entire part where OP is unhappy with learning to shut their eyes for 3 seconds. That was a little over the top IMO.

The mechanic is their to force the group to communicate and make last minute adjustments for handling the adds. I'm anxious as to what savage will add.

I watched a video of A4. I had to close my eyes to avoid feeling that pull of being pulled along by a ride even though I was sitting perfectly still in my chair. I go through this every time my character has to leap from a tall cliff, like in The Aery, or Hullbreaker Isle. It takes me completely out of the run for a short time because I have to calm myself down. Same with falling off of platforms during primal fights.

Flashy lights and such, for the most part, can be toned down through adjusting color, brightness, and combat effects. There is no switch for being tossed into the air at high speeds, or falling.

That sucks you are feeling motion sick. I don't have the issue doing A4 but I do get really bad motion sickness from playing first person shooters so I understand your pain. Unfortunately it's kinda one of those things that only a very small portion of people get, they probably won't accommodate for it

So just dont play games when you have sickness from it? Or go to doctor to prescribe you meds or visit psychologists. There are many people with different issues, you should handle it by your own.

I actually thought this was kind of fun. But I can see how this can be a problem with some people

Its one of the best thing in the raid. Their not going to remove it and I hope they do more stuff like it.

Just a thought, but what FPS does your card run at? I get the "disorienting motion sickness" type of feeling sometimes just from "jumping off a cliff" in this game, but I never thought SE would put something like that right into a boss mechanic.

See if frame-locking it at 30 or 15fps gives the same effect.

I enjoy the mechanic. It's rather fun. I understand you are sensative but learn to adapt, don't force everyone to change for you. When I was younger and worked at taco bell, I used to hate when vegetarians would come in and, not only order a vegetarian meal (substitute meat for beans) but would require the kitchen crew to change their gloves and utensils to fresh ones (which took a ton of time and held up allllll orders for 5 minutes). I have a peanut allergy but I avoid peanuts, I don't walk into a Planters store and ask for chocolate chip cookies. The point is; asking a company to remove a mechanic because it sucks for you is basically ruining the experience for the majority. I'm not trying to sound insensitive, but if the mechanic sucks for you to look at, look away. There's even a disclaimer that video games cause motion sickness/dizziness and seizures in some people.
