I've played a bit of this game and very little of ESO...has anyone here played both and have an opinion they can share on the two games?
Thanks!

I was part of the year long closed super secret beta testing for ESO and I'm here playing this.
They haven't had a real content update in a year. Some things are better, but overall most is a lot worse. It'll come down to preference in the end.
I hated ESO. I tried it for a bit and couldn't get into it. It doesn't have a sense of community like this game does. It got boring fast. But I went in expecting an online version of Skyrim so that's probably where I started off wrong
I have and played Oblivion and Skyrim... and Just can't get into these games. They have the "open exploration" aspect I love but that's about it. The balloon-face heads on all the bodies makes me unable to identify any of the NPC's from each other, and to be perfectly blunt, I wasn't willing to even give ESO a try because my experiences with the Oblivion and Skyrim games felt too "gritty" and boring.

Some friends who played it, played it around launch, liked it, ... and then never played it again.
There's a lot I could say, a hell of a lot but, in essence, ESO is very lacking compared to FFXIV.
The game, the content updates, the quality, the community, the devs and the community managers are much better here than at ESO, which had potential but has been woefully mismanaged, dropping the sub model after just one year because they couldn't live up to what a sub model needs to do in this day and age and losing some of its key devs who have moved on just months after its launch.
ESO and FFXIV are just different beasts entirely. The gameplay is too different to really make any sort of serious comparison.
I've played both for over a year, and both are good games at their core with their own sets of problems. I'll probably hop back to ESO for a time once again someday.
In any case, the game is free. If you want to know what it's like, why not try it out? You'll get a good general feel for the game by level 15 or so. With ESO, what you see at any level is pretty much what you get throughout.
Balloon heads? Skyrim? In the same sentence?
Yeah character models in Oblivion kinda sucked, but Skyrim? Never.
I don't play male toons often. This was my main in ESO:

Yeah. Definite character creation upgrade.
That said, the story quests had challenge to them.. at first. Once you figured it out, it wasn't hard.

I completed a level 43 quest(fighter's guild finale) at level 31.
The lack of personal customization was killing me in ESO. Character creation was lacking too. As far as graphics wise, FFXIV has it beat.
I still play ESO a couple times through the week. But FFXIV is where its at.
I absolutely loved ESO being a major fan of the Elder Scrolls series. That said however, this game wins my vote for one major reason. The dungeon/raid finder actually works.
My biggest gripe with ESO was spending multiple hours in the dungeon finder or shouting in towns in order to get a dungeon group. Even DPS only wait 15-30 minutes (sometimes less) for queues here and tanks/healers are generally instant queue.
I tried ESO, but honestly I hated the community. I couldn't stand how people would block you out of content so they could make cash. (Ex: charging for vampire/warewolf bites, and going so far as to kill stuff so that no one could complete the quest that rewarded those, so if you wanted to become either vamp/wolf, you'd have to pay someone.)
The content itself was dull and flavorless; the crafting system was a total ballache, and enchanting was a joke :/.
