Naoki Yoshida's take on machinist during Japan Expo

"Naoki Yoshida :(laughs) We heard that a lot of players find the machinist's DPS to be low, however we've had the dev team run tests on it and the machinist job can do a lot of damage."
We understand that people complain about the machinist's dps being too low. There's a big difference between the numbers given by players and numbers given by the dev team members who have a very high experience of the game and perfect mastery of the machinist job. Thus we try to understand if a mistake could have been made on the dev team side regarding the DPS calculation or if the players are just not yet used to the machinist since Heavensward was only released a few days back, which is most likely not enough to master the job. Right now, we're trying to find out where the problem is and if there really is a problem or a bug, we'll obviously fix it.

We're all already trying to optimize the rotation but no one here has stumbled upon some amazing combo that apparently gets out damage only a bit under ninja/dragoon.

We don't expect to be on their level, but we don't expect to be a solid 30% under them at equal skill level/effort.

Honestly it's very rare that devs are able to play the game on a higher level than their hardcore player base. I doubt that there is some "hidden" rotation that has yet to be found waiting to fix everything. The job is gonna need tweaks to scale properly.

They had the same issue with WAR in 2.0 and Ninja after release, Yoshida stated how we were not using WAR to its potential, then after Ninja is released says the dev team wasn't aware of the magical rotation that the players came up with.

I have zero reason to believe the dev team on a job that is proc and priority based is getting better numbers than the high end players now.

Not really a SMN friendly fight imo. Harder for SMN to take advantage of the burst phases when most of it's DPS comes from DoT's which are pointless to reapply during Vuln phases since you don't get the full potency.

With a good party, SMN dps will be lower due to less time for DoT's to tick on Ravana before he changes phases.
With average/bad parties, SMN dps will be top or 2nd highest at least due to longer time for DoT's to tick.
For Ravana EX, I cannot out-dps MNK/DRG/NIN if kill time is below 7mins. However I will be king if the kill time was above 8mins since I get another round of RS DoT's out.
Biggest conundrum of our job, we do better the worse our fellow DPS are and vice versa.
Also would like to see the video of the kill, I'm interested to see what your SMN was doing and how it differs with what I do.

But yea, I just think their Summoner was slacking. Still, pretty impressive Machinist parse.

Well if you add SMN + Garuda egi, it's almost 800...
Not sure how much a SMN can do atm, but doesnt seem too bad imo.

I did. That's still pretty low given their kill time. See the pic I linked.

I think SE and players are getting different dps numbers because their meters are reading directly from the game and including new abilities while ACT is inaccurate becuase its han'st been updated yet.
