Position on the Marketboard

Ohai! I'm a crafter who undercuts between 5-10 gil in order to have the first spot on the Market Board, seeing as I feel that the top of the list is where most people make their purchase. However, this got me in a little bit of trouble with some of my servers well known crafters who felt I should be posting at identical prices as them with the items and I understand... to an extent.

Every item I put up seems to go to the middle or the bottom of identically priced items which isn't favorable by any means when only a few of these items may sell in a day and I can't seem to figure out any rhyme or rhythm as to why my items are placed where they are. If it was a first come first serve thing, you'd think I'd be on the bottom but that doesn't happen either.

So my question is if there is a method I haven't been aware of that can manipulate getting your items to the top of the list without actually undercutting them, because I haven't had an item sell for a couple days now doing what I've been doing, and combating these massive crafters with maxed out number of retainers and multiple pieces of EVERY 60 crafting item is getting kind of difficult without an edge.

Undercut them by 1g, and be done with it.

They were personally messaging me telling me I shouldn't, and I'm a total beta with no backbone. Is there no other way? xD

I don't care if you're a beta or a gamma you should always undercut, they'd do it to you. Maybe you need an Alpha to order it? X3

Just set everything down 1 gil!

Undercut by 1gil. Tell them to stop messaging you with complaints or you'll report them for griefing. Because that is griefing. The marketboard system works in a perfect way that if you're the lowest price you're on the top. They can stfu or check back on their own prices more often and undercut as well. Srsly. >:|

It's simple, if you undercut me. I'll either match you or undercut you. If you under cut me again, I'll send you a tell and try to work out a mutually beneficial agreement. If you decline. Time to saturate the market and force you out :D Point being, careful who you mess with. If their bank is higher than yours you'll only end up hurting yourself. ^^

Undercut them by whatever you feel like. Or charge more than them. Their desires are totally irrelevant, and price-fixing only hurts consumers and the economy.

Why do you think everyone hates cable companies?

Yes, it's just a game, but the economy works the same way excepting a system of interest. There's even taxes, ffs.

Just a note: I don't always buy from people on the top position if they're a gil cheaper. Your City State has a lot to do with when I'm likely to buy from you. If I'm at my FC house for example, I'm going to buy from Limsa Markets even if they're a little bit more expensive than the guy trying to get top position by a few gil. This is due to the fact I'm not gonna pay market tax which the guy undercutting a few gil, is not gonna make up.

I may also not buy from you if you have 99 stacks and are the cheapest, because I only need a few of those items and may be willing to pay 800 for 2 of them vs 500 for 99 of them.

Well if you're selling the big-ticket items (assuming you're selling big ticket items), it's going to draw a lot of competition. I usually avoid dancing with my competition, as I'd much rather profit off of them.

I go for the nuclear option first with the trivial undercutters. Undercut me by 1 gil, I undercut you by 10%. Do it again, I'll undercut to barely the cost of mats.

Until I list one of the other 5 sitting in my inventory at the price I just sold the last one at.

So long as they're indeed around material price, i'll buy those too! It'll all sell eventually, the market board is a marathon, not a race.
