heavensward broke my ps4

So was looking forward to this expansion as played ff14 for few years and it made my fan go crazy and now my ps4 sounds like a harrier jumpjet and sent my ps4 back to Sony and even they said the problem is the game overheating the system and drying out the thermal paste never had this till the expansion so I have wasted 40 pounds hope square enix sort this problem out

HW broke my Tesla... I contacted Tesla directly and they confirmed it's the fault of the game "being too sweet". Hoping SE is ready to cut me a check....

Sounds like your PS4 was on the verge of dying sooner or later if thermal paste was an issue.

PS4 is the problem, it should have safeguards to prevent overheating (ie it should have a thermal cutoff in the cpu and gpu to shut the system down before damage can occur.

The thing with consoles is that studios have to get a licence for each game they release on each console (hence the price difference between PC and console) If Heavensward was causing damage to systems Sony would not give them a licence for it as it makes Sony look bad as well.

Now here's the thing Sony might not have to do anything to help, that is if the fault isn't inherent (Ie a manufacturing defect) They are just trying to get out of a repair or replacement. You should be telling Sony something like "So what you are saying is that your product has no overheat protections or failsafes? If it did before any damage like thermal paste drying would never occur." They would either have to reply no we don't or they won't have a leg to stand on as a none functional overheat protection is a manufacturing defect, yet if they say it's the game they don't have to do anything.

Are you wrapping your ps4 in a blanket before playing? Sheesh, mine never gets that hot.

OP is full of garbage, when you send electronics back to their parent company. Big companies like Sony always give you a new one and they keep the broken unit for R&D purposes to improving future versions of the console, or next generation console. Unless of course they no longer manufacture the broken product.

Most likely OP took it to a 3rd party repair shop, and theyre blowing smoke.

Hmm... my ps4 does get quite loud when running ffxiv. Also notice sharper frame drops in the game after about 30 minutes.

I think it's a mix of game optimization and actual hardware. The game isn't running DirectX on PS4 like it is on PC, pretty sure it's running OpenGL or possibly another graphics API designed for the PS3 and 4 versions. Or maybe it's like the mac version and using middleware to translate DirectX into a format the PS4 can read. While the PS4 has an x86 processor, it likely doesnt natively run DirectX to avoid paying royalties to Microsoft or something of that sort.

Any way you look at it though it could very well be a combination of both. If the hardware doesn't have proper cooling it's prone to failure, at the same time the software causes the heat issues because of various factors that could likely be optimized to both reduce strain on the system and increase performance.

FF14 can only do what Sony allow so it's down to Sony. Your PS4 is either faulty, has too much dust or wasn't designed to be run at full capacity.

My PS4 fan gets loud like a jet, but luckily mine hasn't taken off yet. It's still doing the pre-flight safety spiel.

Like others have said, it's probably a defect in your PS4 unit. Kind of off topic, but I had an issue like that happen with my GBA SP with one of the trigger buttons getting stuck. Sent it into Nintendo and they gave me a new system free of charge. Not getting your hopes up, but if you system is indeed defective, Sony could possibly compensate you with a new system or fix the faults your system had and repair it so it's good as new. Companies like Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are good about their products and fixing things.

Yeah, whenever I go into the company workshop my PS4 spins up pretty loudly. Not sure what's going on in there that isn't going on anywhere else in the game.

Nintendo's also sent me a new Gamecube free of charge when I'm pretty sure it was past its warranty...

Have you tried contacting Sony? I haven't worked with their customer service but they may do something similar. Squeenix isn't going to do anything though since they didn't make the system.

Also: I'm running the client from Early Access and my PS3 isn't noisy. (when I was running the disc on the other hand [For ARR] it did get rather loud, but never overheated and shut down)[sounds like back when I was running my PS3 constantly with the ARR disc it sounded like it was threatening to overheat, but didn't]

This is another benefit of digital copies...you have less chance of overheating and melting something cause you have less stuff in your console spinning.

Yea you gotta go through sony for stuff like that, not Square-Enix as they didn't develop and release the PS4.

I play PS4, and even when playing for 15-20 hours a day during the first couple of days of early access I didn't have any issues. I'm on vacation this week and am putting in roughly 12 hours a day at least, and still haven't had any issues. My settings are at max graphic quality as well, with all VFX turned on, so I'm making my system's hardware work the most it can when I'm playing. And to top it off, I rarely if ever turn my PS4 off entirely, instead putting it into sleep mode at the title screen so I don't have to go through the trouble of putting in my password and security code every time I get back on....

By all rights, if this really is an issue caused by Heavensward, then my PS4 out of anyone's should be a smoldering pile of slag by now. What I'm saying is that this is clearly a hardware problem on your part, and is no fault of SE....

Also, this poster is most likely right. Sony would never respond in the matter that you claim, (IE: Blaming a particular game for the issue), unless they had many other cases and were sending out a warning to all players on the system, which SE themselves would have done as well if it was a known issue. It's simply not good business to not warn players if a particular game causes a system failure, as they would be forced to pay potentially millions in repair costs to players affected by their negligence....

TL;DR

OP is either lying about "sending it in to Sony", or is one of very, very few people who have had their PS4, (which run far better than most of the player base's computers, I'm sure, as many players can't afford a dedicated gaming computer), completely destroyed by the expansion, and neither Sony nor SE have sent out warnings regarding the matter......

PS4's usually sound like a jet depending on the game you play, so you should complain to Sony, not to SE.

I would really look into where you have your PS4 sitting and how its sitting. I have mine sitting straight up (not flat) and in a clear area. I also make it a point to dust the ports every month with one of those air blaster things. My ps4 stays cool. The fans start to become audible when either A. I'm at the end of the month and the ports are getting dusty or B. its hot as hell in my room because I haven't turned my ac unit on.

Take care of the ps4 like you would a PC, don't let the fan intakes/exhaust and ports get gunked up with dust and don't put it near anything that is producing its own heat (Like on-top of a cable box, or in direct sunlight)

1st thing its not a rant I love the game and I sent it back to Sony and they asked which game I was playing and they said I wasn't the first and they sent me the postage to send it back they sent me a new one and said if I had any problem to contact them and now the second one is now doing the same and I'm just making people aware of the problem so no need for a dig at me anyway as I don't intend to play the game until this issue is dealt with its bon voyage to ff14 for me and I will play eso which hasn't been a problem and planetside which aren't ruining ps4 eng of conversation

Wow...i'm astonished how many people forget about their 2 years guarantee...

This would mean in your case that you get that repair for free...because its not your fault that the ps4 took off.

Wow, just wow. Are you seriously blaming FFXIV/SquareEnix for your defective PS4?

I called Sony up to tell them about a defective controller (buttons not working) and they were very thorough with trying to find out what was the problem, and sent me a replacement very quickly.

This is true. I'm on a PC, and going into the workshop increases my GPU usage by 20% above the norm for this game. As a result, the temperature of my video card increases a few degrees Celsius (despite the fan throttling higher to compensate). That's really odd when you look at the workshop as a whole compared to.. any other indoor or outdoor environment in the game.

You sir have a screwed up PS4. I bought and switched to PS4 the month ARR was released for it, I play a lot and I don't have these issues, neither does my wife, but she doesn't play as much.

EDIT- Another thing where I live we don't have A/C, but it sure is hot, so I have a small fan pointed toward my ps4 and I also have these cookie cutters that my ps4 sits on. Maybe you should try to find a way to keep your PS4 cooler?

My video card on my desktop died the 2nd or 3rd day of Heavensward Early Access. Do I blame Square? No. I blame the fact that my machine was 10 years old. Machines can wear down pretty fast sometimes, but that doesn't make it the game's fault.

I mean, unless you were beating the fan with a game disk. Then you can say the game broke your fan. XD

Gotta keep the dirt away from these things. The PS4 does have a cut off for temperature, but it's about the same as a PC. If it reaches extreme high temps before the cut off can react, it can still damage the hardware.

Where the console is situated makes a big difference, mine has free air all around on top of a player cabinet. I've like many players ran it around twelve hours as well with zero frame rate issues or noticeable heat.

The issue being that you either a.) have bad luck with faulty PS4s or b.) you don't ensure your ps4 has adequate ventilation?

That sounds like a College Dorm Room mate's dream. A gaming console and A hot plate!

but seriously you might want to consider getting a new PS4 as I have no issues with mine. You also might want to check where you place your PS4 as it needs quite a bit of room near the back for ventilation.
