I like. (because I need at least 10 characters to post)
I would welcome the Ul'dah change but I prefer the other two cities as they are.
I agree. This should be Uldah's main theme! Petition signed
I like Navigators Glory, the original limsa theme. And I preferred the old La Noscean theme.
Better idea: Let us pick what tracks we want to listen to in each area.
that kills the whole effect of the game.Quote:

i just logged into Ul'dah, and wow..... green? really? the color is so subtle i second guessed myself as to what the decorations were.
the others just look standard, almost like they were meant to be there in the first place.
The regular Gridania Theme is too good to replace.
Immortal Flames music > Ul'dah current theme
That is all :D
Well thats why. Certain themes set the mood/scene for areas, and in story/atmosphere heavy games, sound and music for specific areas go a long way. Maybe in something like a racing game (thats not Daytona USA) or sports game with licensed music, but something like Final Fantasy, or any other really story driven game, I think its best to go with compositions done by the game team for that area.
Except for the fact one could argue that they've made terrible use of the music composed for the game thus far. And as for setting mood/atmosphere, I don't see how us selecting what song we feel fits best with a forest theme, desert theme, pirate theme etc compromises their artistic vision one iota. Besides, it's a MMO and half the people playing will end up muting the game and listening to their own music anyways. All I'm arguing for is custom controls that wouldn't impact anyone that didn't want to use them.
Maybe its just me then. Usually like listening to whatever the sound team made unless its just completely horrible (Crackdown 1). Then again, it kinda makes for more of a shared experience if everyone is hearing the same theme at the same time. I know after awhile some people will just mute everything and have the radio or a playlist in the background...but its nice while it lasts.
Especially during boss battles or when everyone enters a new area with a great theme (Coerthas or Toto-rak for example).
Ul'dah needs more of this kind of music
Noticed the same thing, Uldah's current music fits the place so much better, it's still a tad bit too "marchy" but it's way better than the earlier one. One of the things that I dislike in a game is when they put music in areas that don't even match with the theme of the place.
I dunno, sounds more like an army or mercenary force HQ. Standard Ul'dah theme had a more middle eastern flair, which fit the city. Hall of flames theme sounds great, but doesnt really fit every day life in a middle eastern themed city.
Al'zahbi and Aht'uhrgan from XI got it right...Diablo II's Lut Gohlein and Romancing SaGa's Kjaraht were pretty cool too.
I agree on a serious and less Aladdin note music that was kind of like THIS or something like THIS
Sitars and Sultans why is there no real Arabic influence in the music? Instead I feel like I am shopping in my local grocery store or I'm sitting in a pharmaceutical waiting on my prescription. While the Company music is better between the two I don't think it really fits as the town's theme, while Gridania's on the other hand fits pretty well imo.
Yeah i'm hoping Diablo III pulls off an awesome soundtrack...even with the lack of the lead composer for I and II. On the subject of Uematsu, there are some definite misses in the XIV track (nothing too bad though), but when he knocks it out of the park (dungeon boss theme, Coerthas, Grand Company themes, instanced dungeon theme 1...a personal favorite now that i've given it time), he really hits hard.
Uematsu just needs to sit down smoke a bowl while puffing on some hookah and make some awesome middle eastern music for the desert. ^^y
I wonder if there are any good examples of Uematsu desert/ middle eastern themed music? Only one that kinda fits is the Veldt from VI.

Which actually would work for a true desert area (Thanalan doesnt really fit...more like arid plains or something). Needs to eventually have an areas with lots of sand dunes, sand storms, and maybe a pyramid/tomb style dungeon with some undead, chimera, manticore, and Lamia. Kinda getting off topic :p
Maybe they should have a really tacky linkpearl radio station we can listen to when we get bored.
Depending on whether or not it's still Uematsu working on FFXIV...

That style of music sounds fitting.
Oh yeah, no problems with the stronghold themes whatsoever.
On that note, i'm hoping Ishgard has a...Cyan's theme feel to it.

Serious but sort of somber.
Ishgard was leaked with release.

...And is quite similar to what you linked, haha.
The music files were ordered with region music coming directly after city-state music. That track comes before the Coerthas music, and is also played during certain cutscenes involving the Ishgardian Knights.
It's fairly safe to assume that's Ishgard's theme.
Hmm....I actually thought the Ul'dahn theme fit pretty well. It's quite layered and has some complexity to it, much like the underlying nature of the city, with different politics, forces, money, gambling and stuff competing under it's peaceful exterior. I thought Ul'dah was more the rich-b*tch city, not so much famed for strength of arms, hence it's relatively more modest music compared to Limsa Lominsa.
Then again, to each their own. I certainly think the Twin Faces of Fate suits Ul'dah very much so in regards the city's underlying nature.
Also, I think Uematsu did the last one as well. It certainly still has that bombastic nature which is evident, and the middle piece in that video is certainly Uematsu, as it was released in that leaked ones. The last one shared the same tune with another track; namely this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBWrC8hwy40 .
It's the first one that's played which makes me a bit iffy; it's certainly sounds like what the current Naoshi is capable of. But I won't be surprised if Uematsu composed all three of the sneak-peeks given to us. The second one is, as said, definitely Uematsu-san.
Nope. I like Ul'Dah's original theme. Having the Immortal Flames theme would ruin the setting of Ul'Dah for me, though I'm not really a fan of Limsa's Music, The Maelstrom theme does it justice. Haven't heard Gridania's theme, but I like that the way it is. Let's not ruin that.
How about we leave those themes in their respective areas and focus on parts of the game that matter.
