Fisher and Aetherial Reducution

Hello fellow fishermen!

I checked the forums but could not find any thread according to what was on my mind.

After doing a little research i found out that the fisher apperently cannot obtain items to use Aetherial Reduction on.
If its really the case then i wanna congratulate SE!
Ok, we got a handfull of abiltys using GP, right. WE got new fishing logs that include what....3-5 fish and so far it seems not even one big fish was added...and now we have not even any chance in obtaining Aethersands?
I hope someone out there can tell me it's not true...but if it is it's very very sad!

You CAN obtain aethersands through fishing.

pteradactyls can be aetherial reduced.. need to mooch sky fairies in churning mists or somethin like that to catch them..

I'm finding that phrase a lot funnier than it should be. I also can't stop imagining Dr. Grant kicking pterodactyls into aether shards.

I was pretty sure you could...
Since Miner can only get two elements (fire and lightning), I was guessing Botanist can only get two elements as well, with Fisher getting two...
And Aethersands being a byproduct... well... yeah.

Is this the only fish we know of? I just unlocked Aetherial Reduction, and I'm pretty disappointed by the fact that we can't use it on anything I've found so far......

only 1 ive heard of yeah.. pretty sure its mooched from somethin in churning mists :3 saw it mentioned in DoL sub forum

So far on my List of Useful Fish have found 4 fish that are able to be broken down - Manasail, Pteranodon, Caiman and Tupaxuara. The trend is that none of those 4 fish are turn ins for blue scripts. I have a theory that they may be turn ins for red scripts, so I’ve been keeping my highest collectability ones and only breaking down the lower ones.

I have not caught sufficient numbers of them to do much testing as to the collectability rating compared to the purity of the Aetherial Reducution. I have caught about half a dozen Manasails and breaking down the lower collectible ones have given me only Ice Crystals and Clusters. A friend has gotten Dawn & Duskborne Aethersands from some Tupaxuaras.

That said, it's only 4 fish so far and that's not a lot

There's something inherently disturbing about taking a whole, sometimes several meter long living creature and turning it into a mass of crystals and clusters. At least botanists only take bits of plants. Are Fishers the Real Monsters?

what sort of stats do you need to catch those?? im using the scrip set n seems seriously lacking due to not being able to meld

Yes. You don't see the part where they snap the Pteranodon's neck open like a celery stalk, and drink just a little bit of it's blood before it turns into crystals.

I caught all of them with 2.0 bis foragers fully melded using GP accessories and lucius tool. I've pretty much done all my levelling in the same gear, and caught a fair few of the 'big fish' (I.e. The ones that make you stand up if you're sitting). Not sure my exact stats, I'll check at home later. I was definitely surprised when I first caught the pyterondon at lvl 55 when I was just going around tagging the fishing holes. I was imagining having to get to 60 and getting the new bis before going after the toughest fish.

Just so you all know atherial reduction works on any collectable fish that comes out of one of the stared fishing holes.

like that. As far as i know they all have about 3 hour catch windows and you should be able to do them in a rotation and keep going for a good amount of the day.

More fish to be reduced are Thaliak Caiman and Manasail

Edit: aparently there are also some random ones that can be reduced because pteradactyls don't come form one of the stared ones but as far as i know they still have only a 3 hour window.
