Any takers? Next 72 player Frontlines map will be in Albalthia's Spine. It'll have different floating islands that serve as fronts and battle lines between the 3 GCs.
Can fly over an enemy group and hit them from behind.
Or crash land dead center on top of them with an ambush.

I also think/hope it will involve flying somehow cause what a missed opportunity otherwise, I was thinking about that yesterday. The fact that flying might not have been unlocked by some in at least one area is no reason not to have it, what a missed opportunity that would be... and as long as someone has black Chocobo that should be enough. They mentioned where GC's start would be randomized, perhaps they will have us flying in squadrons searching out the enemy.
I'd love to have Flight of the Valkyries come on as my party came in towards another team on our Griffin mounts flying in a V formation.

I don't think they'll allow flying in the new maps.
They would have to come up with some way of balancing it so people can't easily hop on their mounts and fly away. Currently if you hop on a mount, if you get hit you get heavied and it's easy for the other team to chase you down and kill you. If you had a flying mount, even with heavy you'd only have to fly 15 yalms above the other team and you're fine. You could also just camp above an enemy team and they literally can't touch you. You could just afk safely up there while scouting around (as opposed to scouting as a nin who can be detected or hit by aoes).
You'd have to make it so if you get hit while flying you fall to the ground. This could work, but you still have the issues I addressed above. Bard would be ridiculous with far shot just sniping people out of the sky.
The penalty for dying wouldn't be nearly as bad. You could fly back to where you were in less than half the normal time, so if your group gets wiped out, the enemy team wouldn't get to enjoy as much time to take advantage of that (ex: killing the other group before node/drones).
I think it would be a really cool idea, but it would be extremely difficult to do it in a way that was balanced and wouldn't detract from the rest of the game.
Its not going to happen. Flight was not designed for doing any fighting. It would allow people to permanently remain out of harm's way and camp places unduly.
Could be fun, but my experience with flying pvp in Aion tells me it does not add anything. Flight would have to add specific mechanics/actions to make it meaningful and add to the enjoyment.
It'll be the current map but with... Wait for it... Randomised start positions. If it is, I'm flipping tables. X3
I can see it working if stuff like the following is done:
- You do not count as securing a location when you are flying.
- If hit while flying there is a chance you "crash" and are forced to land and take falling damage.
- When inflicted with the "Heavy" status you can not take off and fly.
- Automatic and manned (targeted not aoe) long ranged Anti-air defenses exist to defend locations.
If they implement anti-aerial cannons... maybe :v
If they did have flying I'd hope it had a limited duration like.. 30s max with a cooldown or something.
The simple fact that you can't engage in battle in the air pretty much proves it won't include flying. Also it'd be unfair if some areas you had to conquer were flight only. If one team has an island locked down then other players trying to take over the spot will be at a huge disadvantage since they can't attack and will be airborne, while the people that have the area secured just camp and shoot them down.
So logically I'm betting there won't be flying included. But I kind of want it to happen. But more importantly...I still just want an 8v8 pvp group in a Wolves Den like arena. Strategy and victory for a well-deserved win over derp no-brain junk like Slaughter any day.
