Hey, you want us. There are a lot of us.
A LOT.
You want the game to get support, yeah?
Or you all can come to our game. We have pandas and werewolves and a whole expansion where we go to another dimension's past then wander around in a daze when we forget what we went in there for.
Didn't come from WoW to start with.
But you prefer to cut subs, thus money SE have to re-invest into the game with content updates, just because?
I'd rather WoW players stay and people with your attitude OP leave instead.
So you're saying take away the main % of the players. Yeah ok.
What's the problem with WoW players, though?
Not all WOW players are bad.. I mean. I don't play it, I don't like the style...but don't just assume that because someone plays another game that it makes them not worthy to have around :T
I only liked his post because it was Spongebob/Patrick and that episode was funny lol.
What's the problem with WoW players? My Boyfriend comes from that game, and I am glad he did. People like you should maybe be the one to leave!
Rude.
I'm enjoying myself here.
I actually recently quit renewing my sub there after 6 years.
OP, maybe you ought to follow your own advice because I think you might not be enjoyable to be around during a duty.
I don't have a problem with people who played WoW in the past. I have a problem with people who think they're better than everyone else.
I've always been curious the number of players that played WoW vs players that played FFXI. I feel those are the two main groups, of course some played both (like me) or other MMOs. With FFXIV being the 2nd FF MMO following what i consider a hugely successful game with one of the most loyal fan bases, and then FFXIV taking inspiration from WoW but remaining it's own game regardless, Might these two groups have different visions of how FFXIV will turn out? One side for vertical progression, one for horizontal? I find it a very interesting question concerning two very different types of players that have come together in very promising game, and both sides feel strongly about the future of the game, with opposing opinions and attitudes.
I have a feeling this thread might be referring to people who aren't interested in the story. There have been quite a few accusations against such people as being "WoW" players lately, as if that's even a negative thing to begin with (it's not).
I wouldn't say it is negative, but story is one of the main things in any FF game and to have an MMO finally IMO do it very well, I would hate to see that go away because of a population of the game deemed it more important to clear raid and min/max or whatever "elite" players do, there are many other MMOs that follow this trend.
"pull or i leave"
" let me loot everything"
"this game its for weebs and the history sucks, let me get that shiny weapon omg omg"
Typical wow players.
Why would you skip the story o_o
That's what FF is. One huge story.
wow players are fine aslong as they understand this isnt wow and there were games before wow like eq which wow took alot of inspiration from and eq took inspiration from old text mmos and those text mmos took from a game called adventure so everyone comes from someone else doesnt really make them better or worse its the way they treat others that i have issue with i treat everyone with decency and i expect the same back sadly its pretty rare regardless of what game they played before i think its just easier to hate on wow players tbh
I don't think anyone is wanting the story to go away. I don't care about the story really, but love other aspects of the game. But is the story or people who like it doing me any harm? No. I'm pretty sure most of the "WoW players" feel the same way.
When something does interest me with the story in the game, I tend to not get it from cutscenes. I go read wikis. Researching specifics that interest me is what I prefer rather than sitting through cut scenes. The stereotype that WoW has no story and therefore its players must be out to ruin FFXIV's story is pretty insane, though I've seen it said quite a few times lately.
Ugh, I don't like to multi post but well. The same applies to every kind of player, though. I could say exactly the same about the FF XI players. FFXIV took some inspiration from there too, but it's not XI. We won't expect XIV to be a carbon copy of XI with better graphics. I'm a WoW player myself, but also a Ragnarok Online player... or an Aion player... and so on. As a "veteran" in the MMO genre, every game holds its own and unique (Sometimes >_>) experience.
And I do agree with it. I see no reason to witch hunt the WoW players, as if they all were toxic for the community based in that misconception of it. The reason behind (as far as I can tell), some people hate WoW per se, therefore, they hate the players that enjoy said game. So they use the "WoW player" as a negative connotative for no reason.
It is suppose to be more of a joke than a insult concerning wow players on their forums. It is also more directed to players who use that mentality as if this is a wow game and bring it to FF14 forums and game. I do admit that the title seems a little bit harsh, but have hoped it to be taken a different way. I do not regret hurting anyone's feelings if they are insulted. Recently the game has become more popular with world of Warcraft failing to appease their loyal fans in WOD and they have noticeably moved here; I am no different. I came from wow during 2013 beta for ff14. I have noticed their trade mark personality and thought it would be fun to make a post concerning that populace and how to deal with it using Patrick Star from sponge bob on how to handle such a situation. What is their trade mark you may ask?

I prefer getting rid of the roleplayers who abuse /shout
Wow has story, but it is very shallow and players tend to turn away from the lore since they must invest money and time to read the books and reading the wikis. The story for wow has sadly become a shadow of its former self like the game since Wotlk. The story has become a mess with time travel and lack of character development between the heroes and villains with terrible lore choices that the writers have taken, especially with the end of the new raid in patch 6.2. Players from wow may not be interested in the lore and some may be. It depends how they like their story. Dark or light?Quote:

I come from WoW, but I also understand the two games are different beasts to contend with, just like when I went to GW2 for a time. I also can't pinpoint WoW players spot on, I usually run into them on accident through chatting in groups. >_>
I think Warcraft lore is and isn't shallow at the same time, probably more inconsistent and partially dissatisfying for me if anything. It has nuances, but then they never get touched upon ever again and the things that we're tired of seeing, they start throwing more at us (i.e. Thrall, but they have eased up on him, sort of... but now it's more orc lore). I also agree that the story past WotLK has gone down hill. Cata was a trainwreck outside of Firelands and Pandaria felt contrived in so many ways. The start of WoD was great and the additional lore on draenei is pleasing, but oh god, new Hellfire Citadel and the new story developments there, what even. I am side-eyeing and facepalming so hard at it. And yes, it's a problem when a lot of lore is put in sources outside of game and you get developers saying "we could do story, or you guys can have another raid." I mean, really?
What about EvE or aion players?
As far as comments about story yes it's very cute But I have books upon books. I'm plenty pleased on the story side. I like ffxivs accessibility. Nothing in this game has a long lifeline so I can relax and still be moderately up to date.
nothing wrong with wow players...i feel pity for them WoD expansion has been a huge failure (outside raids) and who can blame them for leaving wow and coming to FFXIV that put content faster and imho waayy better , they got twiteer and selfie cam patch lol (while we got ninja job and gold saucer....isnt even fair :P)
If you think about it.
They probably started in FFXI then moved to WoW and then came back to FFXIV, so they are probably final fantasy players.
Unlikely. If they came from anywhere, it was EQ. WoW speak is basically EQ speak so....
I never ever recall EQ terms within FFXI chat logs as far back as NA launch so if EQers were there, they were few and far between.
This game needs everyone it can get, for the record. SE has their expectations, and if the game doesn't meet them...well, they start moving bodies away from it, and more and more years goes by without expansions.
There's no reason to hate WoW players coming over here, in fact I would aplaud them for having a better taste. WoW Developers have long since stopped caring for their game and you can tell that, even the most fervent WoW fanboy can tell that.
If they want to play here I say let them, they'll support the game and can have fun just like the rest of us.
To give honest input about the Great WoW Exodus, there's this: People who stick through the MSQ story into Heavensward will be the ones that adapted to FFXIV being much more story based.
I actually joined this game on a lark, as I am sure some of my fellow Azerothians have. I tooled around on the trial and realized I wanted to play this more than I did WoW. So I moved here full time as my new MMO.
FFXIV seems less polished to me. The long global cooldown takes many Azerothians (WoW players) by surprise and it takes a very long time to adapt to. The user interface is clunky. The server-dictated live state can make this game unforgiving with a crappy internet connection.
And yet...
What I saw here was something we haven't seen in WoW for over a year: Effort! Real, genuine effort! Someone somewhere loves this baby.
I could go on and on about what's turning people away from WoW of late but the abridged version is this: Activision owns Blizzard and has turned the big cash cow into a massive Skinner Box. WoD is very clearly built around operant conditioning and not much else. Lots of players have been comparing it to an iPad game and they aren't wrong. iPad games make a ton of money in today's market and ActiBlizz obviously wanted to use their tricks to keep people logging in. To a degree they succeeded since WoD was indeed compelling. It compelled you to play. It was not at all engaging, however. Many veteran players are realizing there is no art in it anymore, so some leave and some stay because better the devil you know.
FFXIV is engaging. For all the faults I see in it that aspect of it blows modern WoW out of the water. The characters, world, story, content, all feels meaningful in a way nothing in WoD does. So for now, at least, we can be expecting WoW players to come here. Do not expect them all to be jerks or want the game to be made shallow. Some might but lots of them are here because it's different and has the art and love behind it that their game used to have.
TL; DR Moral of the story: WoW players are coming but they don't want to make this game into the one they just left. They want something different to remind them what fun is.
I left WoW because they killed everything in the game that I loved. First they 'updated' the charcter models, which resulted in case of male Bloodelves in turning them into hulking beefcakes with cavemen faces. So the only option for having a somewhat handsome male character was gone. In wow I had a lot of passion going for transmog (like glamour system in ffxiv) but who cares about the clothes if the character itself looks horrible :C
But besides this the expac is still horrid. Basically you stay isolated in your garrison and wait for the next raid to beginn. Meanwhile you can play around with your selfie cam (no kidding) and ingame twitter integration.
And the worst is the fact that the company still acts douchy towards their customers, even if they are leaving like rats leave a sinking ship. I am one of these rats and I regret nothing about leaving wow just to find out that there is this pearl of a game. FFXIV has everything I missed in WoW.I had forgotten that quests can be fun and interesting! I had forgotten how important in a mmoRPG it is to feel connected with your charcter! I had forgotten that there is more than just loot and raiding!
Thank you FFXIV from the bottom of my heart!
I love the game. I love my charcter. Every now and then I just stand around (while I should go on and quest some more because I want to have such a cool astro shiny sparkly globe T___T) and look at things. At the buildings, the world around me, other characters. I enjoy taking screenshots. I enjoy all these lovely details. Like you have a button for your character to look in your direction. A pet that will lighten you and disappears if you hidet he UI. There is so much well thought things that you will only put in a game if you love it. Blizzard doesn't .. SE does.
Sorry for wall of text but emotion is going on ^^°
And OP you tell me I should leave ?
Uhm... how about NO !
If you are from WoW, do not pay attention to people like the OP.
Most of us welcome all players as any intelligent person knows that every MMO has negative and positive players, immature and mature players, etc.
I am an ex-WoW player. I have no intention of going anywhere thanks OP because I have been here longer than you probably despite having playing WoW in the past. I played FFXI, I have been here since 1.0 of FFXIV and I played WoW for 4 years. I have also grown up playing FF since the first one came out so I feel no need to leave just because you might want that.
I came from 10 years of EQ2 and WoW.
If I gave my true opinion of why I left WoW, I'd have a permanent forum vacation. You don't treat customers like that.
I've never been a super huge FF fan, though I've played a few games(not a consol person) and WoW was far from my first MMO rodeo.
From an Asian company, land of the known "grind games", FFXIV is an incredible mix of East meets West, and it feels " right". I hope more see that.
But I like it here :<
And what is so wrong about WoW players? I know many of them and they are fine. You want to play half dead game? I don't.
I think all you 2.0 players should bugger off, let us 1.0 players have the game for ourselves, we're the one who supported it in 1.0, paid our subs etc. then you lot come along and demand this, that and the other, totally ruining Miq'ote butts, downscaling the visuals and all that jazz, so shoo, silly little 2.0 players.
/internet notice - the previous comment was sarcasm. Though adding movement inertia from 1.0 would be awesome.
