Black Mage gets worst as you level to 60.

The crappy part is that it isn't even Black Mage that is the big problem, its the increased movement,boss movement, and invulnerability that is starting to screw with me.
When I fist started in HW I loved Black mage, especially at level 52 when I got Ley Lines, I felt like a cannon. However in actual dungeons/raids I'm always moving or getting my casting canceled. Now that I have Enochian and almost FireV I have no idea how people will grab me over a Summoner due to how our damage is set up now. If Enochian falls off due to cast cancellation,line of sight cancellation, or an invulnerable boss our dps plummets. Also recasting of Enochian with time still on the buff will revert it to its next lower state i.e 25,20,15,10 seconds which reallly hurts.

Bard and Machinist have the option of going stationary, but can still freely move. They will have slightly less dps, but they will still have it. Black Mages are gated so hard by the game itself its absurd they don't have tools to deal with it like the other damaging classes have. Not only was the difficulty upped on the class itself but the game rocketed it even higher. I sometimes act like a stubborn jerk and refuse to get out of an aoe. I would like to, but I'm getting that BlizzardV off. The boss that has been the most frustrating for me is the first boss in The Vault. His dashes will cancel any spell I try to cast at him unless he lines up with me line of sight. Then he disappears temporarily after dashing. And here I am with a wasted Ley Lines and waiting for Enochian to come back up.

So if you guys can have a look at Black Mage I think we would all really appreciate it.

i think its not a problem faced only by blm.

I have been playing drg and while blood of the dragon is an insane increase in dps potential, a single missed attack on the combo, or being forced to dodge large aoe can screw up the timer - meaning that most of the 50-60 abilities are rendered useless and back to pre-50 rotations until BotD comes back up.

I think if you adjust your expectations i.e. not expect to be utilising all the new abilities at all times it is fine (and i honestly dont expect the design philosophy to expect players to be doing that - i believe we are *meant* to screw up at some point).

Yeah I've noticed that a lot of the new skills for the jobs are actually temporary buffs that give us temporary use of new skills that once gone, we will revert to our level 50 forms. Which is literally what happens to me now that I think about it.

Well, I mean. Enochian means you might lose some Fire IVs. BLM is still in a much better situation than BRDs. All you have to do is find tricks to keep your casts down and a lot of spell speed.

i thought this was a problem at first. but after you run the content over a few times its really nothing. im rarely losing enokian or whatever its called durring bosses anymore. just gotta learn.

unless yeah the boss goes invul.... but thats everyones problem. not just blm.

It's Second Coil all over again lol. Blm's were complaining that in t6 there was too much movement and stop attacking for them to dps properly. The smn's were doing more damage than them and this was before the buffs. Its not a matter of how much damage the class can dish out because BLM is a best but the encounter and the mechanics and a lot of them have you moving. The Vault final boss is a good example of unfriendly mechanics to BLM's and loldrgs.

if you havnt learnt to minimise your movement as blm by now then i can see how all this new content can seem annoying. but seriously its no worse than running titan ex. it just takes some practice and more importantly keeping as much distance from enemies as possible to reduce los or dashing enemies,

yes we lose our buffs on occasion but if that's how the mechanics play out we cant do anything about it but whining aint gonna fix it. (or atleast I hope it doesnt, devs stop changing stuff for whiners pls)

but seriously knowledge and experience in all the new content is when everyone who mains blm will start to get better and start pushing better dps and timing their skills more appropriately. this isn't just an xpac but more like a new game. like a sequel same but different.

blm is fine, it traded off the strongest aoe for the the strongest single target, it sustains higher damage than any other job when allowed to do so... the problem with most people now? it's harder to play. Practice more, it's very rewarding. I will be the first to admit also that some fights will give us legitimate problems, for example, ravana and his jumps... ugh. But I feel like it's just a matter of getting our rotations and movements etched into muscle memory.

I didn't find it that bad as a BLM, I mean Firestarter is an amazing thing when you're on the go.

I have more trouble with Ravana. The things he does will untarget him(even if he's just standing there doing and not jumping or whatever), forcing me to always retarget.

In my opinion the problem is that the blm has cast time and we can't renew fast our buff. We have to manage always 2 buffs to do max dps, other classes only one. We can't move easily cause we have cast time and, if bosses are moving like last boss on Nevereap, I can't renew anything. MNKs and DRGs don't have the cast time problem... they can renew their buff "using" adds, we can't.

Ley line is the dumbest idea in this game.

Ley Lines has some AoE magnet attached to it. Its evil! XD

What if there was a buff thats the opposite of Minuet? Trade damage for temporary mobility. Maybe casting on the move. Sort of like that one skill Astro has. I don't know I'm just annoyed at mechanics happening at shitty times I guess. I know all the little tricks to do well as a black mage, its just more obnoxious now.

If you're on controller and using one of the control schemes, you can pivot while casting without breaking your cast if it's just a line of sight issue. But that control scheme kind of sucks for a controller. But you can make a macro to face the target (it's probably /facetarget or something) that automatically pivots you to where your target is. That will help with regular line of sight issues while completing a cast. Just hammer that macro button while the target is moving.

I think the biggest problem is the gear we have atm, it's the low end for spellspeed. I'll stick to DRG until there is much better gear with alot of spellspeed and switch back to BLM. I think it's goin to be much better with a decent amount of spellspeed.

We already have that, it's called Scathe. Pure mobility at a mere cost of half of your dps. The thing about pretty much every single fight in FFXIV is that they are scripted 100%. The more you do a fight, the less time you end up wasting in movement.

It's awkward while you're getting used to the changes, but it's really not that bad. We just have to learn fights again, no big deal. I thought neverreap was the worst thing in the world but after running it a couple times it isn't so bad. You can clear bismarc ex with 100% enochian uptime.

Learn the patterns, move preemptively, utilize AM. We get hit harder by movement than we used to, but if you know the mechanics of a fight and still find it literally impossible to maintain enochian then you just haven't gotten used to the new rotation yet.

Actually there is AST has it (Lightspeed).

we have now the abiility to proc thunder or and fire to help our mobility just need to analise fights more so we can find when we can just push dps in a spike the trail off to a normal we are not going to be constant dps and anyone who thinks we are needs to just change jobs. yes we can hold constant dmage for a short time but then we are able to ramp up the damage numbers with enochian and laylines and out T IV spells

Ley lines is supposed to be Arcane Mage's (well, now just mages in general) Rune of Power.

With 2 important differences.

1. Its on a cd, which is stupid. It is already restrictive enough being a small area that you must stand in.
2. In WoW, you get 2 of them at once, AND you can place them whenever you feel like it.

It really should simply have no cooldown, and just be instacast on GCD. So baseline you should expect to be in a ley line 90% of the time. You should cast it while moving to a new location. Perhaps it can have a prohibitive cost (maybe as high as a Fire I) to make it not feasible to constantly shift.

So then BLM can actually make decisions about it, instead of simply only having a bit more damage for a short duration.

With how much BLM is like the old arcane mage I'm shocked they managed to make it so...awkward. Thats how I would describe most of FF14's class design choices. Simply...awkward, and not suitable for fun gameplay.

It should directly affect spellspeed. It punishes adding spellspeed to your gear.

Fire IV is pretty ridiculous though...
