so is it true flying mounts like the Griffin mount slower on ground if so why ? and by how much ?
All the mounts have the same speed when on the ground regardless if they are capable of flying. All the flying mounts have the same speed in flight.
Some bigger mounts have animations with longer steps that look slower (Behemoth, Goubou, magitek ex.) Smaller mounts like chocobos have a faster looking animation (especially for lalafell.)
But they all have the same speed.
It was originally advertised that (to keep ground mounts competitive) flying mounts would move at 90% of a ground mount's speed while running on the ground.
From what I can tell this didn't end up happening (and that's not really surprising). Once the devs decided to allow a number of ground mounts to access flight (primal ponies, goobbue, fat chocobo, GC chocobo, etc) it raised the question of what would happen to their pre-flight ground movement speeds. Would they suddenly be slower on the ground as well like the other flying mounts? Because if these particular mounts had access to the top ground speed and top flight speed, well then we're right back to making all the other ground and air mounts poor travel choices in comparison.
well my friend seems to think if it is not in the patch notes yall are wrong so i dont know what to think
Your friend thinks air mounts are slower on the ground because the patch notes doesn't say otherwise?
Is there somewhere in the patch notes where it actually says air mounts are slower on the ground to begin with? I didn't see any reference to it.
If anything it says "While flying, descend toward the ground. You will return to regular ground travel when you make contact with the ground.". *Regular* ground travel would seem to indicate neither slower nor faster.
I'm assuming the change didn't go through because I tested it. I ran on an the ground with a ground mount while my friend used an air mount (on the ground). Traveling in a straight line we reached our destination at the same time. A 10% speed reduction would be pretty noticeable.
my personal airship feels alot slower then normal mounts on the ground.. thought i was laggin so relogged lol
Those airships are pretty large. Larger mounts tend to feel slower while traveling even though they move at the same speed as smaller mounts. The lack of animations doesn't help either, nor does its distance from the ground. Heck, of all my mounts my horse seems the fastest because of its animation (even though it isn't any faster).
I can attest that on PC while holding right mouse button and then pressing default middle button for "always run" on, will often time result in slower fly speed or running on the ground. Its either intend to enjoy landscape while flying or its a bug. If its intended then auto camera realighnment makes it immpossible to enjoy. Griffin is so beautifull in flight that i oftet times want him to just randomly fly arround with cinematic camera movement. I guess Devs could implement panoramic fly rmode for mounts. where you could move camera a lot further away from mount, and add to griffin some nice fly acrobatics.
Yoshi never said that flying mounts would run slower on the ground than ground mounts, people just misinterpreted. It was meant to be taken as ground mounts go 0.9 in terms of game speed while flying mounts go 2.0
I wish mount speeds were at least faster than sprinting
Only thing as far as speed goes is I strongly recall seeing at one point that flying would be slower than land mounts in term of speed but that doesn't seem to be right.
Is the question that flying mounts are slower on the gound than in the air or that flying mounts are slower on ground than normal ground mounts?
the first one is right, the second one is wrong.

Q: How fast are flying mounts?
A: Internally, the development team uses a special measurement for speed. Including all pre-existing mounts, movement when on the ground has a speed value of 0.9. When flying, mounts will have a speed value of 2.0, so it’s about twice as fast as on the ground. I still feel there is room to increase this value further, and I’m thinking about implementing something to possibly increase flight speed.
