I heard only the JP version of the box turns into a display case. Dragon statue should be the same size though?
If this is true where did they say that?
A few things are different. The disc case isn't clear and doesn't have the art inlay. The box itself is different and all the items are removed from the top. What they show as a bluray disc in a jewel case is just in a black sleeve with the FFXIV symbol on it. Not sure what it actually is - maybe some sort of how we put this together video? There's nothing clearly marked on it and I don't know if I want to waste the time to open it (it's shrink wrapped).
Overall, it's not the most impressive CE I've ever seen and definitely not as good as the JP one if that is, in fact, what we were seeing in that video.
They clearly showed us prices for the US in that video and, unless im mistaken, didnt mention a difference between regions with what was shown.
What they shown was JP version... not the EN. If you compare both versions from pics they put in the site you see they are different. The JP one is pimp and others is just a simple box without much details. Is sad but you can still can get the other content just fine. Difference is in the box only I think, and the cover of course.
I guess I just assumed all regions were the same. I cant help but feel disappointed. That display box was nice.
Did they have different pricing? I don't see why they should make something so different for the regions aside from language. And to be truthful, "Difference is in the box only I think" number 1 is incorrect; I have detailed the differences, and number 2 is the whole reason to even buy a CE - for the swag.
The cake is a lie, xD. Seeing the difference and overall items, but very similar cost (unless you're EU), I decided not to purchase the physical CE. Opinion of course, if you like your CE try not to let others get you down (buyer's remorse is an annoying feeling ;P).
The JPY and USD iirc were very similar and I believe the US version costs more, when both currencies are viewed/converted to USD. The price else where being less comparable, like EU.
Edit:
JPY14800 (~$120.00)
USD129.99
JP gets all the nice things. Nothing new here.
The promo images for the Japan version vs North America do look a bit different.
Welp, won't be doing this again =\
I haven't gotten my delivery yet but I hope this is untrue.
There was no mention that the content inside would be different though. This' an outrage and deserves compensation or partial refund.
Here you go:

Eh, fair enough. I just decided to purchase it based off the video (I wasn't aware they'd posted this NA product page with pictures).
I know in the video they said the box would be different, no mention of different CD casing inside & such.

Well.. To be fair they did post pictures which did show a sleeve instead of a case and appearance of other changes, though they didn't list out a comparison chart if that's what you mean. Not a fan of the difference, specially when it is an international game played together as a community and that the price was pretty much more everywhere else than in Japan.. but their images/CE info page is what helped me decide not to buy. So I give them the credit of giving me at least enough info to say "meh".
The difference isn't content. It's packaging. The JP version has better packaging, but guess what? You still got the same content JP did. The game, the soundtrack, the artbook and the statue.
They could've shipped all that in a brown paper bag and still been perfectly legal to the advertisement.
Did you even look at the promotional picture? We got what was advertised.

Hold on, maybe I missed it, but the soundtrack does come with it? Because I could have sword the other disk was a making off disk.
There isnt a soundtrack included.
You got exactly what was advertised.
Look at the product page http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/heavensward
I don't see how you got anything different from what was advertised -to NA buyers-.
Eh, fair enough. I just decided to purchase it based off the video (I wasn't aware they'd posted this NA product page with pictures).

I'm going with that the people complain here have no clue. This goes way back, back, back to when the Japanese started developing video games and then having the ports over to the West. The packaging is always better than Western packing. This is nothing new.
Here for those that have no idea:

Funny on some of them I like the West packaging more.. lol. Definitely seems to be a personal bias on some of them (a couple do appear quite shoddy in quality but yeah..).
I've seen on a lot of products in the east (Taiwan, where I was mostly) where it appears a lot of money was put into packaging, I felt bad sometimes because of how much fluff and extra trash I had a the end of something simple like cookies (it was package inception, package within a package within a bowtied package). Of course packaging is important when you intend to keep them.. and maybe the east inappropriately assumes because we don't over package some products that we don't mind keeping memorabilia lol. I don't particularly like "packaging is always better than west" though, some of my favorite CE are western made and were cheaper lol - they just happened to sell that CE internationally too so it didn't become much of a "what we give them vs us" "minus cost of shipping and taxes - cause I'm not paying that".
To me the ones that got the pass where the old PC and Atari packaging.
