Honestly, current players can't even get on to Aether (on early access no less) and you want to add to that influx of players?

A whole month? So pretty much a whole month of 6+ hours of not being able to get in once you go out for lunch? Never getting on after work?
Ohhh yeah, is that going to be so much fun or what. We will be in for a real treat of login errors and server crashes, I am so looking forward to this as I love not being able to play the game I am paying to play, it just makes me so happy.
/Sarcasm off
So getting tired of trying to log in and not winning at the server errors war.
LOL think of the message we're sending to people trying to come back. Come on back for a free month...if you can log in. Hardest boss in FFXIV is the loading screen after all.
I've wasted too much time trying to log in that I really regret resubbing to this game. Something needs to be done to fix the problem rather than just perpetuate it further.
If nothing is done and this free login month goes through and servers are still crapping out, I will not be resubbing for a month. Wonder if I'm alone. No point in subbing if I can't play. Bring in free players, lose paid players. How counterproductive.
there is no where that it says it will be a free month
Offering up free ilvl120 gear though. That'll be incentive enough for some to come back. It's more people than they can handle right now.
Wow, I'm really surprised they're doing this. I mean, I know they want people to try HW, but it's way too soon. Just too many people.
I didn't see anywhere in the announcement about them saying they could come back and play for free. Looks like they get from chocobo feathers to exchange for some gear but other then looks like they are paying customer just like you are.
Greetings,
As others in this thread have pointed out, the Welcome Back to Eorzea campaign is not a chance for previous players to log in for free. It simply offers some bonuses for returning during this period (the Silver Chocobo Feathers). Hopefully that clears it up!
Not that I have too many classes that would benefit from ilvl120 but I kind of want some ilvl120 gear... lol. If you're going to cause me more time not being able to login (bringing back players who weren't playing, this will cause more stress xD) then at least give me the goodies that people who weren't paying are now getting. >.> lol
Although as Gramul pointed out, the cost wasn't the point, the point was never getting back into your server to play, or in my case logging back into Balmung after receiving a 9002 in a dungeon, felt pretty bad but I couldn't get back in. Glad there are at least enough new tanks that losing a tank doesn't really mean too much - wish you can send mail cross servers I'd send I'm sowwie cookies.
So, can those who continously subscribe and pay for your team to keep their jobs also get the silver feathers? Can we even get better measures in terms of data centre load to allow us to play?
Even my cat is looking disappointed at SE right now (well she always looked disappointed/depressed but thats besides the point)
Nah, their hamsters are ready.

Yesterday I saw a crafter in idle mode who was clearly not crafting. What's the official word about reporting these kinds of players?
You want to report people for being in idle mode? I'm sorry, but I think that is stupid to report someone because of that. They could be going to the bathroom, getting something to eat, or whatever. I think we should just leave the people who are in idle mode alone and let the game timer kick them off the server when they've not being active for a certain amount of time.
Did they re-implenment the auto log out feature? If not then there is nothing to report. Even with the auto log out, I don't think there is anything to report since this is exactly what happened during 2.0 launch when they created the auto log out feature.
AFK kicks help with queues, but make the actual problem--2006/5006 lobby server errors--worse.
The lobby server isn't kicking you/refusing to connect you because of too many people in game. It's kicking you because of too many concurrent login attempts. So if someone is evading the AFK timer because they have to get up for 30-40 minutes, and you report them, and they get kicked offline, you've made the lobby server errors worse because that's another person spamming logins increasing the concurrent log in attempts and causing more 2006/5006 lobby server connection errors.
If the issue with people getting on were the long queues I'd be more sympathetic to this post, but it's not. They exist, but most people aren't really complaining about the 10-20 minute queues so much as the hour spent restarting the client to try to log in only to get hit by lobby server errors, or having lobby server errors pop up in the middle of their queue to get into their ACTUAL server.
Things seemed like they were better last night then they were saturday. Saturday night there was no way to get on during afternoon to evening CST hours, while Sunday I was able to at least get to the queue and wait for about 30 minutes.
^ This.
And...
A million ******* times this ^^^
Like seriously, if you are going to reward inactives with feathers for i120 gear, it should stand to reason that you should reward all your active subs with the same. I feel so cheated. I should've stayed logged off for two months -- if I had only known. Why didn't anyone at SE inform us (your subscribers) to stay away from the game for two months, so we can get i120 gear? I, for one, crazy need it.
TL;DR -- Can we pls get feathers too?
I just want to be able to login. I don't even care about some free gear. Just fix the dang server so I can login to play!
Damn on Ragnarok I am already facing a long queue + Lobby issues... I think it would be better to do the campaign next month.
That was complete luck. There were people getting stuck permanently in the queue at some fixed number because of the congestion. My guess was the overflow of packet information was so great that if you stayed in queue too long, communication would inevitably get disrupted by the server being forced to shed packets.
On the upside, ranting about this is helping me to remember the stuff I need to know for my network applications comprehensive exam. :)
In the past, other MMO developers have temporary stopped the sale of their game until server stability was at an acceptable level for their existing customers. While nobody is suggesting something so drastic here, it does seem both odd and disappointing that (with the extreme issues some data centers are having) Square Enix is encouraging even more players to log in.
Not only will this create even more problems for the customers who are already at their wits end with the current server woes, you also risk giving returning players a horrible impression of the game's stability (which will only reinforce their original decision to abandon the game). I fail to see the wisdom in this campaign as long as these issues remain.
It won't kick you off server if you doing crafting unless it a DC, I understand people have to go to the bathroom and eat, but people who do this is not just stepped away they are actually gone like gone to bed or work and taking up a spot that person that actually wants to play could have.
While I agree, it's still not an "offense" that can be reported cause they technically aren't doing anything wrong.
I still say the main issue is we have certain servers on certain data centers that are filled with tons of people,
I believe SE should do like they did in XI and offer a free one time server transfer so we as the player base can try to spread the population around so we don't continue to bog the servers down during updates/expansions like this.
A world will never be able to handle 100% of its users logged in at the same time. These population caps are set up with the idea that only a portion of the entire population will be on at once, with the rest of the accounts offline. When the inactive players do not go offline it causes the population to push beyond levels the servers can comfortably handle - in ANY MMO.
I'm not saying SE is blameless here as much of the poor handling of this launch is on their end (and their lack of action is extremely disappointing), but let's not pretend the people going AFK for hours on end instead of logging off aren't making the problem worse. I understand that people feel they have to remain online 24/7 to beat the login problems, but they are in fact helping to cause the very problem they're trying to beat.
This is wayyy too soon. Albeit the logins aren't as horrible as 2.0; people still cannot play.
Give this RIGHT as expansion hits and this a bad idea.
You should give people a month or so before you open more floodgates folks can't handle.
On moogle I'm not having login errors. I feel sorry for you guys that are. Maybe that's why I never tried to make a character on balmung and the like. Big servers cause big problems. I like my medium server maybe se needs to make more medium server's to quite those who are big ones like balmung up
Sounds more like this is all a simple analogy of, Square made a bigger building, expecting more population in it, but they left the same old turn asle doorway, everyone at once is trying to get in and out of, to get 'into' the lobby of said building. Getting in is seriously akin also of Russian Roulette, except we got our money being wasted instead of being shot at. (Feels as bad somehow.)
I imagine someone at Square-E in the IT department screamed about this happening, but higher ups turned a blind eye, from all the cha-ching in them. =><=
Yeah if you are not on Aether data center you are fine. The servers themselves have bigger queues which is expected but most Aether dwellers can't actually even get to character select due to lobby errors. Which is why this is frustrating. The big two are on the same data center and its making it near impossible to play. I can only get on if I try at ungodly hours. I can only imagine how bad this is going to get when they start trying to coerce people back amid the actual release. I hope all their hamsters revolt. That is all.
Are you serious? I have issues just getting online on Adamantoise but wants more people jamming up the servers? Can we fix the data centers first please!
I was curious how long it would take to start seeing threads like this. /popcorn
I wonder if net has something to do with it, in terms of connecting faster. Cuz I have High Speed Cable and the Data Center is literally only like 3 or 4 states from me.
The net it depends on how many windows you have open in the browser plus, how much RAM to allow to filter through easier.
Right now, we are dealing with a real problem Aether Data Center is having corrupted data received and on top of that 2 of the BIGGEST servers overpopulated on the data center too. Allowing no one to be able to log on & play!
