I'm loving DRK. I was meh with PLD and okay with WAR, but DRK feels the most fun to me. I'm not sure why either, but just like in FFXI, I'm loving the hell out of DRK here.
I love Dark Knight, but as it is now I'm extremely nervous about doing anything huge with it. I just feel so squishy, and have had healers say that DRK has been a bit harder to heal than others. I'm going to try it in harder stuff once I hit 50, but honestly I'm nervous about doing DD first room runs. I ran head first as a PLD and WAR doing those, but DRK I'm just like >___________>;;;
Also Dark Knight. It mostly is a matter of style. I didn't like the "bright light-element" (mostly holy) and shield style from the Paladin (never liked it in any game) or the brutal, savage barbarian style of the Warrior. The Dark Knight fits perfectly in between them. A brutal magical tank.
And the playstyle is just fun. The AoE skill Unleash for itselfe is worth playing this class. It is nearly as good as Overpower with the benefit of not being a cone attack. Perfect combination of Overpower and Flash Light and it looks so cool. :P
Personaly I don't think that the DRK is that effective (not as tanky as Paladin and not that much dmg as Warrior), it is mediocre. As if Paladin, Warrior and Batman were mixed into this class.
Bullsh..^^
DRK is not harder to heal than the other two tanks are. You just have to use your defensive abilitys and crossskills like every Warrior. You can reduce the enemys outgoing damage, you can mass blind, you have a pretty strong self heal and two damage reducing cooldowns (and that are just your own job skills, not mentioned the cross skills from Paladin/Warrior). Use all of this and everything is fine. Just act like a tank and not a damagedealer and it is ok.
Healers who state that DRK is harde to heal are either not good at healing or didn't get a tank. They've got damage dealers acting as a tank.^^
I checked DRK too but frankly was quite disappointed that he is not really interesting as it turned out that this "complex MP-System" they promised is basically nothing else but the same Combo Rotation WAR and now PLD had too before.
Was never a big friend of WAR. Dunno why, but it's jost not mine.
So that's why I'm super happy about the PLD. The new skills are really amazing. I like the new Combo with noticeable more dmg. PLD was always superior at dmg mitigation - now he can contribute to the party healing and even does significantly more dmg.
I'm very much enjoying Paladin. The lack of a powerful AoE attack is still a bit disappointing, but you can't have everything.
I just used the Loadstone, so don't hit me if I am wrong but your Dark Knight is level 35. The "complex-MP-System" is getting more complex the higher you get. And more interesting. When you get Dark Arts and all the nice skills that get boosted through it.
But overall all the new classes are just old classes with a new feature. Even most of the skills are pretty similar. The gunner is a bard with the special ammo extra, the Astrologian is a White Mage with buff cards and the Dark Knight is a Warrior with the mp management feature. They are very much the same with one bonus feature making them more complex than the "basic class".
PLD or DRK. PLD is the best tank right now, in the sense of the word TANK. The new skills transformed the somewhat bland class into a great tank and supporter, and I really feel that power now. DRK is fun, but the concept falls a bit flat in execution, and its VERY straightforward. No utility to speak of, and needs a NIN to work properly (because no slashing debuff, TP issues, and works through lifesteal, which necessitates said slashing debuff).
IMO, so far some tanks require certain melee DPS to synergize. PLD and DRK want a Ninja (DRK much more so), WAR wants a monk. But more than that, I feel PLD/WAR is the perfect tank combo, DRK doesnt fit in, so I see myself probably having to play PLD regardless.
Leveling DRK and WAR simultaneously with DRk getting msq and roulettes and WAR getting sidequests and leves and having a blast with it. I'll always be WAR main since I have a soft spot for axes/hammers in any game but DRK with it's greatsword comes a close second.
Honestly, I'm about to give up on DRK myself. Why? Well, some of the skills are a bit redundant. Like their main enmity gaining combo is only useful for use about once or twice to gain initial threat. After that you spam siphon strike combo.
Thats the thing, I spam dark arts pretty heavily, but never have to watch my mana because I have siphon strike constantly being spammed as well as blood price and its low cd. DPS stance is just an entire snore: its damage rotation is about the worst one I've ever seen. I know its a tank, but come now. They need a dps rotation that can be considered at least somewhat fun.
It's a shame too. I was really hyped about glamouring up as a kickass looking knight with a sword. But DRK seems like a total snore.
Warrior all day every day! Warrior got a lot more interesting with the addition of an offensive stance.
Hard to say. Warrior is perfect..2 handed axe with a combo point system. Dark knight on the hand uses MP, a resource system I never really liked to begin with and plays likes I'm riding a unicycle through a rope. When I play warrior I can just go ham on almost every situation and not fumble unlike dark knight.
but it's a 2hander sword tank and it's 'new'...don't want to drop it just yet...
Dark Knight all day. Coming from a paladin I love the way it plays. I leveled up warrior for the cross class and I enjoyed it too. Once I get DRK to 60 then I'll level my Pally and see what it's about. But it's great at not just tanking but dealing damage too. What stats is everyone using I put most in strength and a little in dex and piety.
Having all 3 at 50 and DRK at 54, it's my favorite of the three.
Still fully intend to level them all though.
So, I finally got a WHM and a AST who knew how to play the class. Went much smoother that way. I admit I've built up some pretty bad habits playing as a WAR, but I'm liking it more. So far the worst part is reminding myself to save Dark Arts for buffing a defensive CD, or placing down some more threat with Power Slash.
The warrior is still my favorite
the new skills are really fun to play with. and now that the war has two stances where you keep your stacks its now more fun to switch between the stances and do alittle extra dps when possible
I wont lie. I'm having a lot of fun with DRK. But PLD was my main till now, so its hard to change main like that.
I like PLD play style. Its simple, powerful and... HOLY! But I don't like to hold shields. Not at all! If at least there is some kind of very small or invisible shield... :/
Well, I think I will keep playing DRK a bit more.
DRK is the trend of the new and moment, not the right time to ask this question XD
I love DRK myself so I couldn't say otherwise but mostra of my friends are in love with WAR and his crazy DPS output.
I love DRK it plays well in my opinion. If any thing I think living dead would need to be tweeked a bit some healers and new people to the game may not know if you enter walking dead state you need to be healed to full you die and you won't get the full effect out of it because they would start healing you like crazy.
My opinion add like a 5 sec debuff after the effects runs out then you die that way they can get the full use out of it and healers won't stress themselves about saving them or if we could get a message out when it's running out that be good. I guess you could Marco it but how do you set it because you won't always go into walking dead.
Also my concern with Salted earth I think it should be a target mob then deploy at the targets location instead of having to place it could do this to all ground aoes.
That way we also don't have to see people spaming the stuff in city's so hey another bonuse.
Sadly the new jobs are going to have some nerfes and buffs added to them.
My warrior of course!!!!

I tried leveling both tanks a bit before HW, i didn't have much play time due to work and such so i never got to experience the full potential of either class, but from what i have seen the Warrior was definitely a great time. I decided i wanted to try tanking full time in HW since i will actually have time to play it this time, so i picked up the DRK. It has been a pretty fun time so far, tanked all of the dungeons up to 50 with little problem. Ill push it to 60 and see how it goes but so far im really liking DRK the most.
Dark Knight
Having raided as PLD/WAR starting in Darklight, back when the upgraded relic was Bravura +1 all the way to turn 12 (didn't get to finish FCoB, started a new job and had to take a break). I have to say Dark Knight feels amazing to me.
There is SO MUCH to do as Dark Knight, maintain your threat, maintain your MP so Dark Side is always up, which abilities should I Dark Arts? Some extremely high damage potential, Dark Arts/Souleatter is an average potency of 266, that's HUGE for a tank! 6 separate off-gcd attacks that need to be managed and rotated in. Including Cross Class you have 8 defensive cool-downs that you need to constantly rotate correctly, and if you hit a good groove DRK is extremely tanky!
Really enjoying Dark Knight right now.
It is definitely not as simple as Warrior and has almost (if not more) damage reduction cool downs than Paladin.
At 50 using cross class skills, I had 3 damage reduction / defence cool downs, parry buff, self healing buff, magic resistance buff, damage down debuff, near infinite stun off GCD and Magic attack down debuff and around 3 different ways to replenish mp.
It's a very involved class!
I think Ninja would be best compliment to a Dark Knight and am wondering if anyone knows if Storm's Path will stack with the Dark Knight damage debuff?
Warrior for sure I'm loving it even more...
Few things are more fun that Fell Cleaving the crap out of something. So war's been a ton of fun so far in the MSQ.
But I'm liking the Dark Knight too. Lotsa fun balancing the MP and Proc skills are always fun. The naysaying on their defense seems a bit overstated.
The exception being that Shadow Wall is on a longer cooldown than Vengance while having a shorter duration and no extra effect. Or, alternatively it does 3/4ths the mitigation of Sentinel but has no advantages. Something should change there. Shorten the CD to vengeance level at least.
Dark Dance, IMO should Dark Arts into some kind of guaranteed reduction.
I do wish the Darkside effect wasn't so huge.
Reprisal and Storm's Path can both be up on a mob at the same time, I've seen it.
Do they stack? Who knows, to early to tell.
Typically though SE puts the disclaimer right on the skill. I.E.
Delirium Blade "Effect does not stack with Dragon Kick"
Storm's Eye and the Ninja ability both say they don't stack with each other.
Neither Storm's Path or Reprisal have this warning.
I could understand them stacking. Reprisal is gated by a parry and it only has a 20s duration with a 30s CD. Also, it's no secret that PLD handles damage the easiest, so maybe they stack to bring a more utility to a DRK/WAR tanking combo.
Having been a PLD main until Heavensward I switched to DRK... and man, I will never look back.
DRK is just all kinds of fun. And it keeps me busier than PLD. I've also liked vigilantes and anti-heroes much more than bright and shiny ones.
Mechanically, it's a good mix between PLD and WAR. Trades some physical mitigation of the PLD for higher magic mitigation and a lot more damage even when tanking. Still probably won't out-damage a WAR in Deliverance though.
I don't have the "squishy" feeling that some have expressed. Ran AV and a couple level 50 dungeons at least as well or better as I have in the past with PLD.
Fell Cleave is love. Fell Cleave is life. All hail Fell Cleave!
Paladin.
Simply put, I want to be able to focus more on what's happening around me. Also, I like my melee class that can heal, on demand. I've been seeing 4k heals on Clemency which is huge.
Warrior.
There are very few things more satisfying than doing a fully buffed Fell Cleave => Infuriate => Fell Cleave. I am loving the new abilities. In my oppinion, Warrior was always a bit more complex to play well (to not feel "harder" to heal) and deliverance just added another layer of depth.
I haven't touched PLD since 50 or leveled DRK but I am absolutely loving the WAR changes.
Average heals are between 3.6k-4k and crits up to 5.5k, only downside is that you can be interrupted while casting so its not that reliable in 4mans/when MT:ing. Also was kinda sad that you dont get barrier effect from DV but its still good group utility as it seems its always flat 10% barrier no matter how big the heal is(still need confirmation on this)and it stacks with adlo/SS.
Warrior. Dive into a mob of killer rabbits, UNLEASH THE BEAST, awesomeness, win.
For Tanks I think WAR is more fun than PLD, but PLD are less squishy than WAR. DRK I havent tried too much yet since i'm trying to hit 60 first on my Main so i can start farming Soldiery of Law when i'm leveling my other classes.
Just unlocked Royal Authority on my PLD.
My god this is the best animation I've seen... That plus the -very- potent heal from Clemency and the fact that Protect and Stone Skin is now equal for everyone... And Sheltron being quite fun to use.
Damn, I really love PLD now. Best active Support Tank.
(We just need a battle raise next :p)
Warrior :D
for now it's DRK > WAR > PLD ;)
I like DRK playing style the most, and for some reason I dunno why but dun feel squishy at all ( like many ppl keep complaining ) when lvling from 30 till 57 through mostly dungeon runs with a healer friend, as well as he said he only need to put very little heal on my DRK. But it's true the class need some minor tweak to give it some more reliable utility in raid imo :)
good for you. I'm only level 56. Doing all quests exclusively on my PLD because ez exp. i guess battle raise is the next logical progression for us. I would also not mind if we get another generic mitigation oGCD. One issue with us is that we're sitting ducks once we used up all our def cooldowns, esp in longer fights. Adding another one will greatly help us ease the spacing between each cd. Aquaveil(surecast) perhaps.
