Just to put it out there I've played FF ever since it came out on Nintendo. I've always loved the game besides FF9, FF10, FFX-2. FFXI was amazing, but FFXIV is so bad I don't it can be salvaged. There is so many reasons why, and would take so much time to even list them.
For starters the classes are horrible. I mean seriously it's like who wants to play an Archer when a Ranger is so much better. Why play a Pugilist when a Mnk/War is more fun. Lancer for example, where is my Dragon? Seriously the classes are so basic it's pathetic, and why something like this was even created is beyond me. Why isn't there classes like RDM, THF, NIN, SAN, etc...? The job system in FFXI was really good and really stood out from other games. Like why fix what wasn't broken in the first place?
Second is the lets start out with some quests but then end up soloing mobs. Seriously the game leaves you with a start but then just leaves you hanging(You do beginner quests then end up like ok I'll go kill something I guess)(No Valkrum Dunes I guess) . The mob distribution is so messed up that it's ridiculous(I mean a level 3 mob standing next to a level 30 mob). I can care less about quests, because I figure finding a group would be so much...
Who cares, this game sucks(And by sucks I mean terrible). SE will never be able to do anything with it. Me typing my opinion wouldn't matter anyway, just a waste of my time. Thanx for destroying a great game and following the wow trend and making something so fail I just don't even want to play.
I hope and wish FFXI could follow to maybe FFXV, but I doubt it. TBH... I hate dying in FFXI, it sucks I lose XP and had to HP or get a rez lol. But at the same time I loved the challenge to it. Even tho I was like freak this, I understood that noobs never made it past level 40 period. Doing Limbus was fun, but now it's like WoW but retarded. So.... No thank you, I don't want eazy mode.

EDIT: And to be completely frank, unless you have another character, I don't think you've invested enough time in XIV to know if it's like WoW or not. -

What I mean by leave you hanging as it starts you out with adventure quests and when you complete them it doesn't really give you any more direction of what or where to go. I was just like ok... I guess I'll go like grind stuff to 50. This isn't a big deal to me as FFXI was a lot worse in the way it gave you no direction at all. But can see this as being confusing for people that are new to MMORPG's.
By "WoW like" I mean combat is a lot of skill spamming. I just spam reg. atk and then my TP atk every so often. I haven't played to 50 and haven't gone far. But from playing and watching videos it seems that there is no real tactics in the game, besides just pushing some buttons, and if I die no big deal because I just get a rez sickness for a short time and go do it all over again. Actually it's pretty easy to just disengage and run away from a mob and not die at all.
FFXI is actually pretty tough, you had to play your class and know what you're doing because if you don't you're dead and losing XP. I don't know when you played or how far you got, but before level syncing it actually took skill to play. Losing 10% of your XP mattered a big deal after 40+. That is why people learned to play the game and stopped sucking and got good at the game, because no one wants to lose xp. The problem in WoW is that there is no real consequence in dying, which is why so many people are level 85 and still suck at the game.
These are only some of the problems, and I'm not going to write a 10 page forum on what is wrong with the game. I hope the game can be fixed and flourish, but IMO of how fast MMORPG's and computing develops. I just don't see that happening in a timely matter. It's just my opinion not a fact, but I hope I'm wrong; because I would really like to like this game. -

Go play ffxi, you love it. This game should never be ffxi. Im not saying its perfect by far, but as developers you should look to making a new game experience. You should petition ffxi to remake their graphics/polygons and make an HD ffxi.
Im not even really hating on what your saying, im dead serious. Whatever they end up making this game, it shoud offer a unique expereicne from ffxi. FFXI can have expansions to expand the story, and they could theoretically redo the whole graphic engine while keeping the same game and data for probably a lot less money than making ffxiv ff11. There is no logical reason to make this game offer the same expereince as ffxi. -

I'm gonna start by saying i really enjoyed FFXI and played it almost since launch back in the day, but is FFXIV really worse then FFXI though? it's kinda like saying a baby is a worse driver then an adult. i remember back in the earliy days of XI it was also limited on content and full off issues but it evolved into what is currently a much better game then FFXIV (go ahead and flame me for that comment). that being said FFXIV has a better base to build on then FFXI so imagine how it's gonna be when it evolves.
i agree a tiny bit on the classes but thats just me being used to the names and what the abilites are/do in FFXI i still use names like Taru and Galka and prob will for a while yet.
if anything my complaint would be that they haven't learned enough form XI, i'm not taking about the game play i'm talking about things like a player search function and linkshell admin, these should have been there from the very 1st day of the closed beta, there is also a bunch more things they could have lernt form XI without making this game anyting like XI, but just make it work better. -

I agree with the OP for the most part, the game is terrible and i can't belive it can be salvaged, after 2 months of playing i dont feel like loging in at all and i really wanted to give it a try and play while it's free... but everything is so boring, and these updates don't seem to be bringing anything that would turn the game decent. i might just login in a month to try a chocobo maybe...
Anyway that's my opinion, the part i just dont't agree is where you say every FF besides IX and X, those were awesome but i'm gonna pretend u said every FF besides X-2, XII and XIII xD. I also played every FF game and used to love Square but they have been disapointing me non-stop since 2002, being FFXI the last final fantasy worthy of it's title -

Played FFXI for years, and I'll agree w/Gank that the game had some oomph that XIV does not in the pain of death category, and I missed that at first too. That said, I think it would have been an absolute shame if they had created a clone of XI - change is a good thing! People who start an MMO eventually quit because it gets old, and to re-wrap XI in some prettier graphics wouldn't have made it a new game. If you're constantly comparing the two as you try to play, you're missing out on all that was built into this relatively unique game + the coolness they've introduced over the past year.
As gamers, I think we like to torture ourselves by embracing new challenges and defying the sometimes ridiculous learning curves. There's a point at which it helps to pause and remind yourself it's a game and the purpose is to have fun! Well, that's my purpose :)

To the OP: You do understand that dragoon in FFXI is not base of the old dragoon right? that Lancer is more like the dragoon in old Final Fantasy then FFXI. Due to it having a wyvern and Dragoon in old Final fantasy killed Wyverns.
The new job system would give you Monk,WHM,BLM, and everything we want to make the game more final fantasy so i don't see the issue here. -

Agreed in FFIII if you swithced to dragoon there was no wyvern, but they are cool, LNC isn't dragoon though. This would be a good topic if they add a dragoon job and didn't give it a wyvern.Quote:

I care more about the mechanics and everything else than the minor bugs, I don't think people understand the MMO curve of you either make a great game or it fails. When FFXI came out there wasn't to much else to play besides EQ, Ragnarok, Ultima, Planet Side, and some others. Now there is so many games to play that if a game fails like Rift for example it's over. There is no coming back, or making it work. It's over, the whole point to this thread is that by the time that FFXIV is close to enjoyable that there will be other great games out like Star Wars, Tera, and Guild Wars 2, maybe even the new Blizzard game Titan; FFXIV will get left in the dark. Nothing that can be done about it, it's just the way of the really fast paced gaming community today. It sucks, because this could have been an awesome game, but SE decided to put noob programmers at the helm and met it's demise before it was started. porting FFXI to a better engine would be a whole new game, but would be better than this crap honestly. It was FFIV that had the first Dragoon, never released in US. FFXI had the Dragon with the super cute wyvern. His point was that the Lancer was the first ever Dragoon from FFIV, mine was that the Dragoon in FFXI was so much better. :PQuote:

I can't agree with RNG out pulling a THF for 3 reasons.
1) if the RNG lands a crit it on the pull it's not a guarntee that the tank would be able to get the mob off the RNG.
2) RNG has one of the lowest eva and defence stats in the game which means you have to relay on /NIN and it's not the best (not the worst either) sub for RNG, also /NIN only gives 3 shadows this is a problem on long pulls cos once the're gone you don't have the defence to take the hits. THF on the other hand has the higest eva, so even if the mob you pulled takes your shadows you will most likley evade most attacks.
3) Cost, THF's throwing weapon is re-useable RNG cost a bomb.
RNG is a very high dmg DD and thats what it should be use for in a pt, i had RNG THF and COR all @ 90 and my choice for pulling would be THF or COR depending on pt. BRD also works very well but i never lvl'd it past 37.

Not trying to be mean, but reading what you just said kinda makes me think you have no idea how a RNG and or THF even works at pulling. Reason being of why RNG is better, because the fact RNG main Weapon is ranged compared to a TNF Daggers, or did you use a sword and shield? Anyway since that is the case a RNG would save TP to do fast skill atk's to pull mobs in high camped areas like Crawlers Nest for example. I know this because on My RNG we were all good at exp chains on camps, and not so good on my THF when people were like 'Are you going to pull?' and I was like 'I would but the RNG took it' :). Saying man RNG is a better puller, really no argument there.
Ya it was FFIII in JP, in US Idk... Since it never came out here. No biggie tho, I think people got the point anyway, but thanx for the clarification.
Agreed... Most people would rather have a challenging in-depth game, then something they could just grind through. I don't think FFXIV should be just like FFXI, but class tactics and skill chains were a lot of fun. Which is why I hate FFXI now, because it's so easy that people don't play the game as intended. Trying to SATA something these days people are like dude... who cares... Or even setting a skill-chain, people are like what planet are you from. That is what was fun in FFXI and should be ported somehow in FFXIV. Because A it's FF and B it's FF, why change what wasn't broken in the first place.
